Aldrovandi Villa Borghese

We are at the Aldrovandi for another 2 nights but I wanted to write a review while still enjoying this wonderful hotel.
Most of what I could tell you has already been mentioned by other reviewers so I'll try to fill in the gaps.
This is a lovely large Roman villa north of the Villa Borghese park in an area similar to Belgravia in London. The streets are wide, the buildings majestic and the atmosphere very refined. The hotel is not overly large but gives a grand impression upon approaching for the first time. The immaculately attired doormen, the opulent reception area with not a hair out of place make you realise you've chosen well.
The rooms bear comparison with any 5* property we've stayed at. We chose a Deluxe room which was amply large, had a lovely marble lined bathroom with complimentary Molton Brown potions and was decorated in an art deco style with quality wooden furniture and brass fittings. Our room (221) overlooked the pool/garden which was a huge bonus as the public areas are beautifully manicured and really give a sense of 'la dolce vita'. Oh, and the gorgeous quality of the cotton bedding needs to be mentioned.
The breakfast room was gorgeous period room, with wood panelling and mirrors everywhere. The breakfast buffet was about the best we've encountered with copious hot and cold choices for all tastes. However, do beware of going 'off-piste' with your breakfast choices - items not on the buffet spread were expensive.
In August the weather here is very hot (35 degrees today) so guests gather around the pool. I must mention the attentiveness of the excellent pool attendants who immediately take you to your choice of sunbed, arrange your towels and present a complimentary bottle of chilled water. The pool is heated the beds are comfortable and the setting is sheltered, classy and very relaxing.
If you want to venture into central Rome then you need to book a space in the 7-seater Mercedes people-carrier which runs to and from the Spanish Steps every 30 minutes - the journey takes no more than 10 minutes through the Villa Borghese and the drivers are courteous, knowledgeable and very careful. And a bit of soft classical music while traversing the parkland in air-conditioned comfort is rather magical.
Other reviewers bemoaning the Aldrovandi being outside the centre of Rome simply don't get it. The madness, noise, heat, hustle and bustle, culture and choice Rome offers is ON YOUR DOORSTEP, minutes away from the hotel and you can go there for free any time of day!!
By staying at the Aldrovandi you're insulated from the big city, in fact you could be anywhere in the world by the pool enjoying the opulence, service and quality of this gorgeous hotel.
Don't wait - book a stay here while the sun is shining - you will never regret it.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the pool/gardens.

Perfect romantic getaway hotel in Rome. Can't fault the hotel in any way. Rooms and facilities are well appointed and tasteful.
We did not eat in the hotel restaurant but the breakfast buffet was beautiful.
The staff in the hotel really make the place very special.
I would definitely stay here again.

From the moment one steps into the charming old world lobby of the Aldrovandi, one is greeted by a warm, friendly, and accommodating staff. The grounds, the pool, and the ouside dinning area are landscaped so beautifully, the feeling is if one is in a Villa. The room staff, pool attendants, doormen are all so very accomodting. The breakfast buffet not only has wonderful choices, the wait staff is uncompromised! The Hotel Restaurant is the finest! Oliver is outstanding in his menu and his presentation! We can not forget The Hotel shuttle...wonderfully trained drivers that enjoy and treat the guests like Royalty... Accolades to the manager! Delightful!!

Room Tip: Located just a few minutes from all bustle of the city....lovely to relax and be treated so well!! W...

Start with an outdoor pool to die for, where a bottle of mineral water accompanies your towel. Add a complimentary Mercedes Benz shuttle service to whisk you to Piazza di Spagna in minutes. Throw in close proximity to the Villa Borghese Gardens, with the serene calm associated with the Parioli district. Mix with a first rate breakfast service, a sprinkling of A-listers (Jeremy Irons, Ban Ki-moon), common areas with a sense of presence, accessories from those nice people at Molton Brown and - most importantly of all - staff who genuinely care.

Whilst most of its competitors can boast some of these features, the Aldrovandi ticks all the boxes.

Deliberate no longer - this is the one.

This hotel has it all. Great rooms, nice bathrooms and best of all, a breakfast buffet that was the best one we saw in Italy in two weeks. One negative, although it is not anything the hotel can fix, is that the hotel is located outside the city center. We had to pay extra for the taxi (75 euros) to and from the airport as opposed to 40 Euros to a hotel within the city perimeter But there was a shuttle bus to the Spanish Steps and the driver was FANTASTIC. He was friendly and attentive and made sure we knew where we were going, etc.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool or the Borghese Gardens, although they are across the street and...

We had a wonderful stay in this fabulous hotel. The staff and service were top quality, really friendly and professional. The room staff did a superb job with everything immaculate every time you stepped back into your room..like a dream for a busy working mother! The breakfasts were delicious with every conceivable item available and slick service. Beautiful pool, thoughtful and courteous attendants, charming ambience, an oasis of calm in a fabulous city. I would highly recommend this hotel. The free shuttle service into the Spanish Steps every half hour meant it was quick and easy to get to the heart of Rome and not too far to walk back through the park once the cooler evening air made movement possible! What a city, what a hotel! Diana H.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool if you can get it.

Our second visit to this hotel and I found this trip more enjoyable than the first. I agree with previous reviewers who say that it is quite a way out of central Rome but we made sure we booked places on the shuttle bus when we arrived and so had no problems. The major plus point of this hotel is the pool, after a hot day sightseeing coming back to the cool water was wonderful. Would recommend.
