“Nice room, friendly staff”
Reviewed August 22, 2013 via mobile

The room was spacious and kept very clean. Decent breakfast as well. Staff were friendly and helpful to all our needs. Only problem we found was that there were a few maintenance issues in the bathroom that looked like they had been ignored for a while.

We stayed for two nights on an excellent offer through the 'Telegraph Hand Picked Selection' on the 8th/9th August. We were travelling with our teenage sons and were allocated two classic rooms (408 and 409), one of which was a lovely corner room on the 4th floor with super views of via Ludovisi. (We requested two rooms near the top to avoid traffic noise and the hotel was obviously very accommodating.) The decor is a bit tired but the hotel was clean and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly which made up for the fact that it was slightly dated in areas.
We ate at the rooftop terrace which has incredible views of the city at night and there is a very helpful and very friendly waitress up there, but we thought it was a bit pricey.

Our only complaint is that a large and very noisy party of 21 were staying on the same floor, with their young children running up and down the corridor at 2 am...so we had a terrible nights sleep on the first night. We called the night porter and eventually they all went to bed... but we had to spend a full day of sightseeing feeling extremely tired. The reception desk was sympathetic and reassured us that they were leaving that day which was a huge relief but we would have appreciated an apology or token of some sort from the hotel management considering how exhausted we were. Unfortunately nothing was forthcoming.

Otherwise, the best features of this hotel are the friendly staff and superb location.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room near the top of the hotel.

Don't get me wrong. It is a good place, with everything you'd expect from it's category. It's location is very nice, really close to Villa Borghese and all the main sights you'll be visiting in Rome. But at the end of the day, the hotel seems a little pricey. And, of course, they charge you for wifi, printing. The minibar is also quite expensive. The decoration, on a first glance, seems very beautiful. But when you get to the room it is actually a bit outdated even on the interpretation they made of Classic Decor.

Again, nice hotel. But I'm sure that for that price you'll get something better.

Hotel itself is was lovely. Staff were lovely, maids were very good at their job. Breakfast was amazing, set underground and food is always fresh.
Rooms were small but did their job, would have liked to have seen better amenities in the bathrooms and the tv was hidden away.
The thing that made the hotel however, was the staff of the restaurant on the roof. We spent many nights there and every night we were made to feel special and wanted.
Staff of note were Mikela and Valentina who looked after us every step of the way! Will come back and will stay here again.

We stayed for one night before departing Rome to Civitavecchia for a cruise. Arrived early Sunday afternoon from airport by taxi (€50 fixed fare) and room was available immediately. The hotel looks the part with an impressive entrance and lobby and the doorman getting a porter to collect our cases from the taxi. We had requested a double and our room on the 5th floor met that request. The rooms are not huge but certainly a respectable size for a traditional city centre hotel, comfortable and well fitted out, ours overlooked the central courtyard and was very quiet. The rooftop terrace and bar were attractive and pleasant, we didn't use the restaurant but did have a nightcap at the bar and took in the rooftop view.

The hotel is well located, within 10 minutes of the top of the Spanish Steps, we also walked easily to the Trevi Fountain and the surrounding areas during an afternoon wander. There were plenty of restaurants nearby for a pleasant meal in the evening.

The buffet breakfast was excellent.

Termini station is a 15 minute walk but the pavements aren't the most luggage friendly so with 4 cases on a a mad Monday morning we took a taxi, called by the hotel, cost €13, including the multi case supplement.

In summary, the Savoy is well positioned for short visits where you don't want to be endlessly using the metro, it is also convenient for arriving/departing from Termini.

Room Tip: E'mail the Manager ahead for a double or other requests. Rooms overlooking the courtyard have no...

Stayed at this hotel as part of an organized tour so I do not know what rate was paid for our room. However, the tour was not cheap and this hotel is cheap. Like staying at a Motel 6. Very small rooms, tight cramped bathroom, worn out furnishing, worn out carpet, two chairs in the room and one full size bed. One of the chairs could not be used to place a backpack style piece of luggage on, and there were no luggage racks in the room. Thus luggage must be left on the floor. Bottle opener screwed onto the wall in the bathroom next to the toilet - what can be said about that except yuck. Shower curtain only goes part way around the shower so water sprays out onto the floor in front of the toilet. The walls are so thin we could hear every sound coming from the room next to us as well as from the hallway. Really awful place. Stay away. The only nice thing I can say about the Hotel Savoy is that breakfast is good.

Hotel Savoy is a classic Roman hotel that is right out of the 1920's with the elegance and old-style look and feel. However, the size of the room was very comfortable and the breakfast was wonderful. The location was extremely convenient to the train as well as the center of town. We though this was such a great place to start our trip.

I plan on returning every time that I am in Rome.
