“Grand location”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

This four star Hotel is located right in the middle of Rome. All the attractions are less than half an hour walking distance. The breakfast buffet is OK. The rooms are renovated and very comfortable. The restaurant is rather expensive and you can find the same standard of food in some of the restaurants around the Hotel. You can find many Bars around the hotel, and the area is one of the late night Hot Spots of Rome. The formal prices of the rooms are rather high, but deals can be found in the Web.

Room Tip: ask for rooms toward the back. The higher the better.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a tour. From all accounts, though others were satisfied with their rooms, we had an especially nice room on the first floor (remember, in most of Europe, the lobby is on floor 0, and rooms begin on floor 1). A suite, really. But until the last day of our trip, the room had a strong fishy smell. Whether it came from the restaurant or trash, we don't know. We didn't complain except to the maid, who seemed oblivious, because we otherwise loved the room and after a few minutes, we got used to the smell. But every time we went out and returned, there it was. Finally, on our last day, the smell had dissipated. The room had a great bathroom with double sinks, a large bathtub with shower and a separate stand-alone shower. Only problem with the separate shower was the placement of the shower head so that the water cascades against the poorly sealed double doors and leaks all over the floor. The hotel staff was friendly and professional in most respects, but failed to provided the requested wake-up calls two of the three days we stayed there. Fortunately, we also set the alarms on our phones. Breakfast was good, typically European but with many choices. The location of this hotel couldn't be better. A short walk to the Coliseum and Forum, and a do-able walk to most of the other main attractions for tourists in Rome. Many excellent restaurants nearby. We were able to get the WiFi in our room, but others in our group had to use the lobby. But it was free, and not limited time-wise.

Room Tip: We'd have given our room an excellent but for the fishy smell. Others didn't seem to have t...

We stayed here for two nights as part of a tour group. The hotel is in a great location to many places to eat and is walking distance to several attractions. We were on the 6th floor and had a great view. We also liked the fact there is a laundry place nearby that washes and folds your clothes for you in a few hours. The hotel offers free WiFi in the lobby and it worked very well. I would stay in this area again as the location is very good for doing things right in Rome. The beds were the best we had out of four hotels in different parts of Italy.

This beautiful & very pleasant hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the Coliseum - the Grand Hotel Palatino is in Rome's Monti District. It offers an American bar and 2 restaurants.
The rooms at the Grand Hotel are air conditioned and come with a minibar and satellite TV. Some rooms ( I believe) have views of Rome’s rooftops!
We had breakfast for the 4 nights we stayed there - great choice in my view - different types of bread rolls / pastries (although not many pastries left if you arrived for breakfast after 8.30am!) / different juices available (orange juice etc) / coffee & tea (you made your own coffee & tea yourself) / yoghurts (very yummy!) / different types of cold meats / salads / scrambled eggs / bacon / spicy sausages. I thought there was a great choice available in my opinion.
We stayed on the 7th floor for 4 nights as part of a tour - the room itself was lovely, airy & spacious. The wardrobe was big enough for us both - could have done with a couple of extra drawers though for our clothes! The bathroom was oh so lovely....very spacious and the shower worked & was very good which is a bonus in my opinion when staying in hotels in Europe these days!
The maid service was something you could not fault - everything in our room was spotlessly clean & clean, crisp towels arrived every day - wow!
Comfort of the beds could definitely be improved - our beds had 'Memory foam' matresses - great if you like these sort of matresses but not so great if you don't - just a personal opinion here at to what kind of matress you prefer to sleep on. Not sure if all rooms have such matresses though!
There was no free WIFI in the rooms but you could pay for this if you wished to. We simply prefered to sit in the public areas - i.e. in the lobby and Wi-Fi is free in the lobby.
We spent a couple of evenings in the bar - live music is available here - a very pleasant atmosphere!
The location was perfect and I would definitely consider staying there again.

Room Tip: 7th floor rooms - at the end (corner) were very quiet!

The hotel has a perfect location for the main sights. Only five minute form the Coloseum. The double (or single) room is big enough, the bathroom has a tub, a shower and a bidet. The A.C. was not working, although outside was very warm and if you opened the windows it was very noisy. The breakfast was limitated, in all 6 days we had almost the same thing every day (no fried eggs, only boiled or scrambled, no special cheese like blue, camembert or italian cheese), the selection of tea was uninspired (I like mint tea, but there was not such kind) and the coffee was not very good (in the morning it is important, at a four star hotel, to have a great coffee, especially in Italy, famous by its expresso). But the big minus at this hotel was all the noise that the maid chamber was making in the rooms or on the hallway, starting with 8 a.m. I was spending my vacation in Rome (tired after a difficult time), so my plan does not included an awakening at 8 a.m. and with all the cleaning noise (which can be avoid it, trust me!).

When surrounded by so much history and beauty, one does not want to bother about comfort. The Hotel Palatino is at the crossing lines of the Forum, the Maria Maggiore, the Colosseum, and the Saint Peter in Vinculo church, home of Michelangelo's Moses (climb the stairs in front of the hotel and you'll find Moses at 200 yards from the hotel!).
It means that you are within walking distance of many famous places and museums.
The Palatino offers comfortable rooms, an excellent restaurant and helpful personnel. Breakfast offers a wide 'American' and 'Continental' variety. They have conference facilities in the basement (gave some workshops there).
Being situated in the city center area comes with a busy street; therefor, city noises may prevent you from sleeping with an open window. The advantage is that there are plenty of shops and restaurants around.
It is my favorite hotel when staying in Rome.

I've been there two months ago but i still preserve wonderful memories of my pleasant stay. First of all, I was given the room I really longed to have (which is not so easy nowadays) - with wonderful terrace overlooking old roofs having a table and two chairs. Secondly, everything was really comfy and met my needs perfectly - ability to use wifi and coffee- and tea-making facilities inside of my little shelter))) Thirdly, the location is great - the thought I can reach Colosseo and mysterious Forum in 2 mins by walking warmed up my heart, especially when I realised that besides above-stated there're so many interesting things in the side-streets nearby including v.useful ones such as Metro station Cavour. So thank u!
PS - free champaigne & wine for breakfast added a lot to my holiday sprirt!

Room Tip: take the ones on 5th (if i'm not mistaken) floor with private terraces
