“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Having stayed at the sister hotel in Florence and loved it, we switched out booking in Rome to stay here, the hotels have no similarity at all. We booked a renovated room and had to move rooms within an hour because the first room they gave us had a broken aircon and safe. The hotel is large and souless without any of the luxuries of a large 4 star hotel. The decor is very 1960s and although lobby and bar area are clean, it is far from modern. We did not find out until the 2nd night by chance that we had access to the nicer smaller breakfast which was definetly better than the main dining room. The location was good but i would not recommend this hotel to anyone as it was not good value for money!

We booked this because of its location to thé roman forum & thé colliseum. We reserved directly with the hotel for a new style room. Also confirmed this twice by email. We arrived and thé room we booked was not available. They placed us in another room on thé 7th floor which they say was an upgrade - I honestly cant say this was the case apart from being on a higher floor - thé room was certainly not any better. In saying That it was clean. However I run à 3* hôtel 40 room hotel and for me there were certain things That for an alleged 4* were not acceptable.
Safe was tiny and we could only fit in à purse, wallet & passports. Nô possibility of fitting in an iPad or small note book.
Slippers provided but bathrobes were refused. We asked réception twice and were told (Rather brusquely) that we were not in thé correct room. So if this was a supposed upgrade what room did we need to be in? This excuse is very poor for à 4* hôtel. They are standard in mine so this is unacceptable.
Breakfast was ok, but freezing Cold in thé morning with AC & windows open. OJ is not réal & is of thé Water added variety - again no excusé for this. By proper OJ
Réception could not give à damn - they treat you as if your lucky to havé à room at all. They should remember it is thé clients that pay their salariés. We paid 840€ for 4 nights which was supposed to include wifi as we had booked directly with thé hôtel. This is advertised on their website & on screen when you arrive in thé hôtel. Did this happen - absolutely not. We had to pay 8€ for 12 hours. However it was always difficult connecting and i wasted at least 15/20 mins each Time trying to connect. I had to work whilst there so annoying.
Conclusion - definately would not stay hère again and think there are far better options for thé money we spent That give à better service. Look around.

Room Tip: Make sûre you get à High floor. And if booking direct make sûre you confirm thé wifi is included...

We stayed in Grand Palatino Hotel in Rome just after our 4 day stay in Hotel Calzaiuoli in Florence. These two hotels belong to the same group of hotels called FH Hotel Group. We chose Palatino since we expected to find the same comfort as we found in Calzaiuoli in Florence but the visit was a total dissapointment. First of all, the receptionist were not helpful, not friendly at all, additionally we checked in to hotel but took our 3 piece luggages to the room our selves, no one helped! The hotel needs renovation especially the lobby. The breakfast is very poor in terms of service as well as of menu. When you stay in hotels that belong to the same group, you automatically start to compare the hotels or expect the same you had in one. This trip tought us one important thing; same group hotels may not be in same quality!

Was with a tour group. One of the front staff was quite miserable. Had bathroom issues, toilet seat was broken and they apparently did not know how to fix since they tried twice. They needed to replace the seat since the bolt that held it in place was broken. Guess they could not figure that out.

The Palatino is hard to beat for a central location in Rome. Just a short walk to the Forum and Coliseum. One block from the Cavour metro station. We didn't have to eat in the area surrounding the hotel so I can't tell you much about restaurants. My guess is there are plenty considering the location.

We had an issue with the staff at the registration desk during our visit and I don't know how much was the fault of the tour operator and how much was the staff itself. But when our luggage wasn't delivered to the room, I asked at the desk. I was rudely treated and eventually sent to the room of the tour guide: a room that didn't even exist on the highest floor of the hotel.

That aside, the hotel is clean and the breakfasts were good. I would recommend it.

Great location within walking distance from most attractions. Stayed here for 3 nights on a tour.It was very hot so we were glad the Air Con worked very well .Room was very large with 2 arm chairs. No free Wi-Fi but it does work everywhere in the hotel but for a fee.I found the front desk people very surly. Everyone else was quite nice. They had an in room safe and the decor was very good. The food in the hotel was very good. Our room looked out over the Via Cavour so we had a bit of a view.

We stayed at the Palatino for 3 nights as part of a Trafalgar tour group. It was very busy but the room we had on the 4th floor was nice and quiet and overlooked Via Cavour. It was very hot whilst we were in Rome but the airconditioner worked well and we were able to return to the room to cool down and rest before hitting the streets and the sights again...and again.... and again!! We crossed the road to look at St Peters in Chains and on turning the corner, there was the Colosseum in all its glory so it really was a central and convenient place to stay. Our room was a good size with everything you could require and the bathroom was modern and clean. Breakfast was very nice with all the usual choices in a very pleasant dining room. I can recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to stay there again.
