This little hotels location and service is absolutely fantastic. In our opinion, it deserves six stars thanks to Mauro and Andrada who catered to all of our needs. Mauro saved us a ton of time getting to and into the venues we wanted to visit. He is Mr. Roma and loves what he does for the hotels guests. He recommended great restaurants where the food was excellent and priced for any budget. The room 31 was kept very clean and was quiet and Andrada made sure we were happy with her service. The only caution is that you have to walk up three flights of stairs to reach the lobby because there is no elevator. You are really made to feel like it's your home away from home.

Thanks so much for such a wonderful review! We really appreciate that!

So flattered about all the compliments, but we have to remind that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and that our check-in is ONLY from 1pm to 6pm.

Though, the best part of our service, is all the suggestions we give our guests through the map of Rome, especially for who is the first time in Rome, it can let you enjoy Rome at its best.

We cannot wait to have you in Rome as soon as possible!

This hotel is in a great location. We walked everywhere, including Vatican City. I don't know if we would do this again, but it can be done. Easy walk from Termini train station as well. Mauro was incredibly helpful. He gave us a good map of the city with useful tips on avoiding lines and food recommendations. He also arranged for a car to take us to the airport at 3AM. Breakfast in the room was nice. Bed was a little uncomfortable, but I still definitely recommend this hotel.

The short walking distance to the Rome Termini Railway Station, the Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Forum, and Spanish Steps all make the location excellent. A Smart Phone with a navigation APP really helps in shortening walking time and distances. We had room 34 then moved to 33. Both had new very good double glazed windows, nice wood door and furniture. The beds were firm but comfortable. Bathrooms are small but quite functional except limited spot for hanging towels. The room had a quiet modern AC and many electrical outlets making charging electrical gadgets easy. The breakfast consists of yoghurt, cheese slices, Italian ham, coffee (your choice of type), juice and bread. Everything is good although bread is supermarket quality. All staff including breakfast server were excellent and very helpful. The front desk personnel are very knowledgable about restaurants in the area as well as anything else you might be interested in. The only real negative issue was a severe sewer smell in room 34. This smell is the ONLY cause of the low rating for the hotel. The front desk staff believed the smell originates in the old building's sewer system venting into the shower drain. They could not resolve so we asked to move rooms after 3 miserable nights. They are working to resolve in the days following our stay which based on staff quality I am sure they will. Too bad we had to move as room 34 is nicer than 33. The only wierd issue is the safe provided is unattached to walls or closet thus if one wished to, it could easily be carried away. Despite this, the rooms seem secure and area appears very safe for walking any time of the day or night. We would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: There are only 7 rooms. Room 34 is bigger and better appointed than 33 and a bit quieter if you like...

Dear guests,

thank you so much for all the compliments and for sharing your experience here!

Also, for reminding that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and we add that our check-in is ONLY from 1pm to 6pm.

We had to do a lot of control to that bathroom smell problem and at the end, we found out that too much paper has been thrown in the bathroom, causing the block of the sewer and the relative bad smell. It costed us a lot of money (to pay the workers and to refund the reservation we have not been able to respect), though we finally fixed the problem!

About the safe: our building was built in the 16th century (1500) and we are not allowed to fix the safe on the wall. Our palace is considered as a monument from the Roman County and they do not let us make any interventions on the walls, unfortunately. Anyway, we reminf everyone that our distict (Monti) is the safest in Italy, with the Ministry of the Interior, the palace of the Italian secret services, central bereau of the Bank of Italy and the Presidential Home.

We are anyway thankful for all the kind words you had for us and we look forward to meeting you soon again!

My Fiancée and I stayed here for 6 nights in November 2013.

This hotel was fantastic. Great location for the colosseum and only 10 minutes walk to the Trevi Fountain. We found Monti to be such a good area to stay in, safe, relaxed and Chic with lots of eateries, not too expensive and some brilliant little cafés.

Mauro at the hotel was a great guide giving us vital information for our tour of Rome. Take note of what he tells you as you will beat all the queues has save you money. He even organised both transfers from the Airport for us. The train station is 5 minutes walk from the hotel if you plan on using that route.

DO NOT be put off by the exterior of the hotel as the brown door at the front can be misleading. Use the photos on trip advisor to familiarise yourself with what it looks like.

The room is a good size for a couple with a TV (which you won't need in Rome!) and a safe to keep your valuables.

Really glad we stayed here and thanks to all the staff for making it a memorable visit!

Hi Christian and Briony!

So glad you wrote such a lovely review, thank you very much!

Thanks also for reminding that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and on our website, there are all the specific directions about how to reach us and even the best discounted price for reserving a room!

We are so glad our philosophy and "homemade" service pleasured you, that is our final focus (fell in love with you when you wrote a TV is not necessary if you are in holyday, even because there are no english channels!!!)

Please, do not hesitate to come back, when in Rome again!

We had chosen Italy for our honeymoon - first destination being Rome. Brilliant start to the trip!- the sole reason being Hotel De Monti. When we first arrived- we were a bit confused honestly. No sign, 3 floors - why has it got such high rating?? But once we interacted with hotel staff - the service, the hospitality and the warmth (not to mention advice about what to do when and experience what all in Rome)---we have not encountered the same in any other place throughout the trip!
Now when anyone asks about Rome, we simply cannot respond without mentioning Hotel De Monti.

Thank you for amazing memories and reminding us what customer centricity is all about

Dear Bani and Ishtpreet,

thank YOU for a lovely review!

We first of all would like to inform everyone is reading that our little Hotel has only 7 rooms at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift (and thanks for reminding!!!), always kept immaculate from our housekeeper Andrada.

What we like of our job (and we chose to do here) is let everyone live Rome as a Roman would do, so, not having lunch in front of the Trevi fountain for some frozen/pre-cooked touristy food, but the really Roman/Italian way of living the most beautiful city in the world. That is why, exiting from the Hotel, our service does not finish. Tips about how to skip the lines (please, DO NOT BOOK anything before coming in Rome, it is a wasting of money!!!) and the way how to recognize the best local restaurant!

Thank you a bilion time once again and we really really look forward to meeting you soon!

All the best!

We stayed at the Hotel de Monti for 10 days in April. The staff, Mauro, Andrada, etc. were the best hosts ever. Very clean, comfortable and very affordable, nice continental breakfast en suite. Genuine Roman neighborhood with restaurants that are not tourist traps, close to the main train & bus Termini. The only down side was climbing up three stories without elevator -not recommended for the elderly. Mauro's recommendations about restaurants and attractions were flawless. There's no better value in Rome. We will return. Ernst, San Francisco, CA

Hello and thank you so much for posting this review!

Yes, we remember everyone is reading that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and that our Hotel has no sign outside; on our website there are all the specific directions about how to reach us!

It is so easy to get lost in Rome (actually, is on of the best thong to do to discover the town!) and we are always here to provide a map and explain how to really afford the long days of sightseeing!

Thank you so much again and we look forward to meeting you again!

Last week we arrived to Rome via the train (Florence). A taxi took us to this hidden hotel but in a great neighborhood close to a great restaurant for pasta (La Carbonara). Mauro, the desk clerk opened the door and came down to help me the four flights of stairs with our luggage. Our room was beautiful. It didn't have carpet which we dislike and the size was perfect for us two. Mauro registered us in and gave us the best advice in what to avoid and to enjoy in our four days in Rome. The breakfast in the mornings were very nice and always a pleasure to eat before venturing off to our adventures helped by our advice from Mauro. I would say this was a perfect place to stay but there was one negative (some kid upstairs was running up and down which was annoying). Other than that, i would recommend this place to all. I want to thank the hotel de Monti staff for their efforts in making our stay in Rome one we will never forget. The four flights of stairs helped us to lose the weight of all the pasta we ate at La Carbonara.

Room Tip: Ask for a room further away from the kitchen which is by the entrance. Also, ask for help with lugga...

The stairs, if you remember, from us are called the "free gym service provided from the Hotel" and you are the best witness!!!!

Really, thank you so much for all the compliments and we remind, as you did, that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and our Hotel has no sign outside; our website is the best in order to get directions (and also for reserving at the best prices on-line...).

When at the Hotel De Monti, we remind everyone is reading, to ask us the map with all our explanations about how to discover Rome at its best, including the best tips for real, genuine local Roman/Italian restaurants!

Look forward to meeting you soon!
