Thank you De Monti for a lovely stay whilst returning to my favorite city, Roma.

Getting there: We had a terrible time trying to find the place. Saying this is not to blame to hotel, but it´s a fair warning to ensure that you´re prepared with the address. My fiance had a GPS reference of the address and it was still incorrect. During the day is not so bad but at 6:30pm when it´s cold and dark is not the best experience of trying to locate the hotel. Read the previous reviewers instructions of how to get there and you should be okay, unfortunately, this was not available for us yet. From the airport, we caught the SIT shuttle bus which drops you off at two locations. The closest one to the hotel is Termini station and it is about a 20min walk from there with heavy luggage. The return price of the ticket is 11euros. It took us over 60mins to get from the airport to Termini as we were stuck in traffic. On the way back it took 50mins without traffic. The option of a taxi is also available but I think this is around 60 euros each way.

Reception: Despite being later than I said we would be, we were met with a very understanding hotel host, Alessandro. He came down to help carry my luggage up the 3 flight of stairs and briefed us on how the running of the hotel works. We were then given our rooms to go and relax in after such a bad start to our visit. When we were ready for dinner, Alessandro suggested places for us to eat including giving us a map and marking out the suggested streets to walk on, what to avoid and look out for. This was very much appreciated and his suggestions are valuable. Reception is opened from 1pm - 8pm but we found that after the first day, we didn't really need anything else.

Rooms: The room is very much like what you see in the hotel photos, they were clean and came with basic facilities. We didn't really watch the TV so can't comment but our room was made up with fresh towels every day after we returned from site seeing Rome which is great and much appreciated. The shower always had warm water and there was adequate space to walk around for 2 people. We asked for a room at the back to avoid noise and I must say that the sleep quality was very good here. There is FREE wi-fi access here and it was working well for most of the time.

Breakfast: the breakfast system here works well. You get a menu with all the options available and you select what you prefer and the quantities. Drop it into the 'mail box' the night before with the requested time and it will be delivered to your bedroom door. Some options available include toast, croissant, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, ham, cheese and juice. It is enough to get you going before having delicious lunch in this wonderful city.

Overall, should I be in Rome again, I would return. For our 4 nights, we paid 260 euros which was a very good value. This included a slight discount because of our early flight on the last day as we couldn't have breakfast. Not many places would offer this. The hotel staff was always friendly and accommodating without being over the top or in your face. They were there when you needed them but left you alone if that's what you wanted. There is also a 2euro tax per person per night there that is not included in the price but that is fine as it is a small price to pay. The location of the hotel is also very good, we were surrounded by great restaurants, shops and could walk to all the sites (well in Rome you can walk anywhere) but you get my drift. Thank you De Monti for ensuring that we had a lovely stay in Rome despite a bad start and well done on the running of this establishment.

Room Tip: Email the hotel and ask for a room towards the back. I believe most rooms are the same so there is n...

We have to thank you a lot for this wonderful review, as it says all the most important information about us!

We are at the third floor of an ancient building without a lift, nor a sign on the outside, so we suggest everyone to have a look at our website before to come, in order to have the best directions to reach the Hotel. It would be enough, sending us a mail as well.

Our small rooms all have showers and a private bathroom and are all the same size and we are glad and happy you appreciated it. As for the breakfast that is served every time in room, consisting in all regional, local, fresh products.

Monti district is the oldest Roman one, and we thank you because you are the proof of its value!

We look forward to host you again guys!

Alessandro and Mauro

My boyfriend and I stayed here during the holidays in December 2012, and the experience was nearly perfect. The attentive staff provided excellent customer service, including providing detailed information about places to make sure we didn't miss. The room was large and, despite the central location, there were no noise issues at night. As others have noted, breakfast was delivered, as ordered and exactly at the requested time, each morning of our stay. The several flights of stairs might be too much for some, especially after walking all day, but it wasn't an issue for us. The only minor quibble was the lack of a stopper in the bathroom sink kept my boyfriend from having a full sink of water for his shaving. But trust me, that would not keep us from returning! Wonderful place, great location, excellent value.

To be perfectly honest, when I first read these TripAdvisor ratings, I thought some kind of reviewing scam was afoot. They were too positive, given the price and location of the hotel. But I was convinced that the reviews were too authentic and too diverse to be the work of a small number of dedicated scammers, so I made my reservation. I was on my honeymoon, so I simply resolved to change to spend some extra money and stay at another nearby hotel if HDM turned out to be unsatisfactory.

A couple weeks before we arrived, Mauro contacted us to let us know that De Monti had had some flooding, but not to worry -- he and Alessandro were putting us up in another hotel for the first night of our stay while the room was repainted -- the posh Hotel Duca d'Alba down the street! They were wonderful about all this. My wife and I showed up at the d'Alba, and they had a room all ready for us. Mauro and Alessandro paid for everything -- including the city tax -- even though the room they had reserved for us at the d'Alba was twice as expensive as the flooded room at the De Monti.

We were finally able to arrive at the De Monti the next morning, and stayed two nights. The room was simpler than the posh Duca D'Alba -- no gleaming decorations, no balcony -- but quite a bit larger and quite a bit more comfortable. We were served a lovely Roman breakfast each morning, free of charge, delivered to our room, and, as someone who lived in Rome for four months as an undergraduate, I can attest to the authenticity of the meal from A to Z. Mauro and Alessandro are eager to share the tricks and tools of the tourism trade in Rome, and they gave some wonderful tips and good restaurant recommendations when we were looking for them... but they were not pushy, and when we honeymooners needed some alone time after a long day of walking on Roman cobblestones, Mauro (who mans the desk evenings) just said "Buona Serra" and we went on our way.

Very clean, very comfortable, and absolutely fantastic location (you can get to any major site in Rome on foot within the hour, and the Cavour metro station down the block can get you there in relative comfort, too).

The most difficult part of our whole stay at HDM was finding it. Like many less-expensive Roman hotel options, it's totally invisible from the street, and Google Maps sometimes struggles with Roman addresses. Here's some tips: it's between St. Mary Major (the huge, beautiful basilica on top of the northern spur of Esquiline Hill) and the large government mansion in the piazza atop the Viminal Hill (which hosts the Ministry of the Interior). Specifically, it's in the block between Via Urbana and Via Cesare Balbo, on the North side. You really have to remember that address -- 95 via Panisperna -- and look for it (Roman addresses are the stone numbers at the top-right of their doors). Hotel De Monti is at 95. It's just a big, non-descript oak door like any other, so you will have to use the door buzzer and buzz Hotel De Monti, just like you're going up to a friend's apartment. Check-in is between 1 PM and 8 PM, so if you're there too early or too late, there might not be anyone to let you in (although they of course give you a key once you're checked in).

We had a wonderful stay and recommend this hotel to everyone who can walk up three flights of stairs!

We stayed in this hotel from 30 Dec - 3 Jan 2012/2013. I was glad that I had looked up the location of the hotel/what the door looked like on street view before arrival, as I imagine otherwise it would be easy to walk straight past! After travelling up three flights of stairs, we were greeted by Mauro, who was extremely friendly and helped us to our room. After we had settled in a bit, we went back through to reception and had a chat with Mauro about Rome. He is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us a map as well as lots of information on the best times to see the attractions and how to avoid the queues, as well as lots of food tips.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk to the colosseum and termini station, and about a 15/20 minute walk to the Trevi fountain. All the other attractions were slightly further away, with the furthest being the Vatican at about a 45 minute walk (we were so exhausted from all the walking that by the time we visited the vatican on day 4 we got the metro from Termini - it's 1.50 euros for a 100 minute ticket or 6.00 euros for a day pass. A small tip: the queue for the automated ticket machines inside the station can be long, but many of the shops next to the station sell tickets too with little/no queue!).

The breakfast was fantastic and was always bang on time, you choose your breakfast the night before (off a checklist) and say how many of each item you want, then post it in a box by reception. We also very kindly received a bottle of sparkling wine to celebrate new years eve with!

The stairs are probably the biggest issue we had - after a full day of walking the last thing you want to do is walk up three flights of stairs! However watch this space - Mauro told us that the hotel is planning to buy out the b&b on the 1st floor so they have the building and then put in a lift - which would make the hotel perfect.

Mauro also printed our boarding passes out - very helpful. Thank you to all the staff - we would definitely stay here again!!

We stayed for 4 nights in December. Mauro was extremely helpful with tips for restaurants and sorted out flowers for my girlfriends birthday. The room we stayed in for the first night was quite small however when I mentioned it we were moved to a much bigger room. Breakfast in bed every morning was a great start to the day. Perfect location, walking distance to all the main attractions and lots of small bars and restaurants nearby. 5-10 minute Walking distance from Termini train station which links to Fiumicino airport. Extremely clean and quiet at night. Excellent value for money and a great base in a central, safe and attractive area.
Grazie!

The hotel is situated very close to the Colosseum and within walking distance to Termini Station. To visit this wonderful City we couldn't ask for a better location, we enjoyed walking in the busy streets of Rome and tried to avoid transport as much as possible. There is a choice of good restaurants close to the hotel. It was our first time in Rome, and at Hotel De Monti, but definitely won't be the last. Mauro gave us many hints, the right time to visit sites in order to avoid the queue, where to go and especially what to avoid. He was extremely helpful and friendly. A Pre-booked breakfast of our choice arrived punctually in our room every morning. The room was clean and comfortable. All this for a very reasonable price. We highly recommend this hotel as great value for money.

Lovely hotel within walking distance of all the attractions. The staff were wonderful and incredibly helpful. When your offered a 'chat' on arrival, go for it! Loads of information is given to you and fantastic advise and not a salesman in sight! Our room was lovely and clean and the breakfast was brought to us on a tray at our selected time every morning, what service. Would certainly recommend and would visit again, thankyou for a lovely stay :)
