“DO NOT STAY HERE! We had problem after problem! Nothing as described”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Cornelia Resort is advertised as a resort... It is nothing like a resort! It is a 5 bedroom B & B. when we arrived at the 'resort' we went into what we thought was the lobby and placed our luggage so we could get our bearings. We were them abused for 2 hours by the caretaker of the building for leaving our luggage against (not tht it was in the way) whilst we tried to find out hoe to check in and where exactly the resort was. We pressed the buzzer to the resort and no answer. We tried to call the number tht was given to us by booking.com and it was disconnected. Myself, my 60 year old mother and my 2 daughters (aged 3 & 14) started to panic as we thought we had no where to sleep upon our arrival into Rome. While I stayed with my children and the luggage my mother wandered around to see if there was any other available accommodation. I was screamed at and sworn at for the entire time by this horrible woman and her side-kick who I can only assume was her husband. My 3 year old daughter peed her pants and as I was trying to clean her up an the floor they stood over me and screamed some more. The man also smacked My 3 years hand when she touched the door! i lost it and threatened the police! Elka, the woman who runs the resort eventually turned up to say that there was only 1 available room instead of the 2 we had booked originally. The check in times states on booking.com are between 12-7pm and we arruved at 4pm and Elka disnt turn up until 6pm. The whole situation was extremely stressful, on a plus Elka did organise alternative accommodation in another B & B close by and that was wonderful. Pay the extra money and stay somewhere nice, it is a trip of a lifetime after all!

We spent 5 nights in the hotel. It has a very good location, not far from the city centre with public transportation. Our room and the bathroom were nice and very comfortable, it was cleaned every day and we got every day new towels. The lady who welcomed us was very friendly and helpful, she recommended us good restaurants not far from the hotel. Unfortunately we could not pay with credit card, because the machine was broken so we had to pay in cash, but it was not a problem. They prepared some complimentary drinks and sugars in the room for us. On the last day we could leave our luggages there till the afternoon. We would highly reccomend the hotel.

It takes only 5 minutes walk to get to the hotel from the underground station 'Cornelia'. But it will be so only if you exactly know in what direction you have to go. We were constrained by time because our train from Florence was two hours late and we were afraid that we should not find anyone at the front desk. Unfortunately it was not easy to find the hotel first time because it is situated in ordinary residential building without any signboard. In fact we were standing in front of the entrance and doubting whether we had come right. Fortunately we had the manager's telephone number and we called her asking to meet us. The manager signora Elka appeared to be beautiful and charming woman. She accompanied us to the door of hotel which is situated on one of the floors of the building.
Generally the whole hotel looked like recently renovated. All the rooms are named according to the names of Rome's attractions. Our room 'Piazza Navona' was very clean with the nice design. It was not very spacious but quite comfortable and well furnished.
The bathroom was good and roomy enough but near the sink there was a small hole in the wall with the wires sticking out. Unlikely the wires were under the voltage but it looked a bit dangerous.
The breakfast was quite normal. In the previous reviews I read that other guests complained the breakfast was meager and poor. I don't agree. There I had a cup of espresso and tea, two croissants, yogurt, a little jam or honey, butter.... In my opinion It's enough to be full of energy for acquaintance with Rome until the more substantial lunch.
The signal of wireless internet was weak in our room because it was at the very end of corridor. So to establish internet connection we had to place the notebook near the door. The speed was not high but quite enough for internet surfing.
The only and most unpleasant surprise was at the front desk during the checking-out. We wanted to pay by Mastercard but signora Elka told us that she could not accept the payment by credit cards. The reason she pointed was truly ridiculous; she told that there was no the equipment for reading bank cards, although (!) this payment option was advertised on booking site. As the alternative we were proposed to go to ATM which was ‘just round the corner’. Unfortunately it did not suit us and we were forced reluctantly to pay in cash. At that moment signora Elka hadn’t enough cash exchange and she did not take city tax. So it turned out we had a small discount. Whatever happens, it happens for good.

This is an exceptionally clean B&B and the locations is great. The rooms are a great size & the bathroom was huge. The room was cleaned and towels changed everyday and the sheets were changed on our third day even though we were leaving the next day. The B&B is on the 4th floor (there is a lift) and is less than a two minute walk from the metro station which serves line A. The bars and eateries around he B&B are much much cheaper and more authentically Italian than you find in more central Rome. The manageress is lovely, but we would advise to get her mobile number before arriving and calling her when you are on route as she comes and goes during the day. Would highly recommend this accomodation!
