Located in central Rome, La Cantinola has been around since 1988 under the same ownership. They have a loyal clientele and tend to treat their regulars better than just walk ins. The food is very good, prices reasonable, and service (if you are a regular or if you speak some Italian) is very good.Their specialty is Sardinian dishes based on fresh fish. Great place to eat in a family-style environment. Outdoor seatingis available when weather permits.

This trattoria was quite a medium tipical italian trattoria with cuisine from Sardegna. Rather expensive compared to the food and wine quality. But recently some important change has arisen inside these walls.
It happens that while you eat the owner keeps shouting against the owner that works on the other side of the street.
Useless saying that you eat food and nervousness, it seems to be at cabaret, but at the end is not a pleasant experience...while eating people should be relaxed...isn't it ?

Reception at our hotel recommended this restaurant as it was just around the corner and traditionally Roman which was what we wanted.

The owner welcomed us and was lovely, our waiter did not have the same charm unfortunately. We had nice dishes of veal and fillet steak, bit disappointed that there was not much of a promised salad garnish with the steak. It was however cooked med/rare as requested and was very nice. We are a bit naive about the Italian way when it comes to having veg, salad, etc with our meat dishes!

The star of the show has to be the (owners Grandmothers recipe) Tirimisu, it was divine. Along with the litre of vino rosso and the nice touch of a yellow rose after paying the bill we felt we were in Italy!

Our first day in Italy and we were recommended to go to La Cantinola. The food was simple but lovely. The veal escalope in a white wine sauce was great. The scampi risotto was also full of flavour and we loved the complimentary olives and breads.
The tiramisu and house red wine were also very good.
The best part of this for us was the help and good humor the staff gave us as we stumbled through the language. They were very understanding of our (at time poor) attempts to get the pronunciation right.
The complimentary rose at the end of the night for Lynn was a nice touch.

The hotel where we were staying made this recommendation. The english speaking owner was hands on and very friendly. The service was excellent and we never felted rushed. The food was very good and the portions were plentyful. Menu items were reasonably priced. Would recommend to anyone if staying in the area of this ristorante.
