we really enjoyed visiting Le Domus Romane di Palazzo Valentini. You have a guide so make sure you book a tour in your language. You see the ruins of a villa but what makes it different is that they have discovered the ruins and then covered the floors in glass so you walk through the rooms looking down, they then use, commentary spotlights and projectors to tell the history of the villa, it really is a different place to visit

Not to be missed, extraordinary place, fabulous guided tours (you can't wander round separately) every multi media modern skill is used to evoke the past without ever verging on the Disney-esque or cutsie. Heavily booked, we were lucky to grab the last two places on the English speaking tour yesterday. Perfect also for a wet day as it's all inside. Do go!

This is by far the best experience I have had with Roman ruins. Though I am a big fan of the Roman period, visualising ruins often proofs difficult, especially when there is little left. However, at Le Domus Romane a digital simulation guides you through the house of a wealthy Roman family. This nifty piece of technology highlights - quite literally - the important bits and 3D reconstructions help you picture what it may have looked like.

The simulation lasts for a while and is therefore worth the money spent. If you're under 25, bring along some form of ID with your birth date on it to get a discount. There are only a few English tours, so book in advance. There are ones in French, and of course, in Italian. Le Domus is very close to Piazza Venezia, so ideal for when you're around Trajan's Column and the Altare della Patria. It's even within walking distance of the Colosseum and the Forum.

I never write reviews on trip advisor but this is a truly fabulous attraction, ridiculously good value (approx 11 euros each) and well worth checking out. Make sure that you book well in advance (its easy to book online) as there are only a couple of English language sessions each day and only about 12 people are admitted on each tour. You spend one and a half hours exploring an excavated Roman house. Lighting and commentary are used to bring the house back to life and to reveal the many layers of history in the house. As well as exploring life in a Roman house this tour also includes an in depth video on Trajan's Column as well as a close up view of Trajan's Column at the end. The tour is a bit long and dark for very young children, pushchairs are not allowed but it doesn't make this clear on the website. This is a real experience, definitely book it, you wont be disappointed.

I did not know what to expect from this, but must say I was pleasantly surprised. Never before has history been (so) interesting and engaging. The tour was 1.5 hour in total, so I recommend visiting the bathroom before and bringing a bottle of water :) The entrance fee of only 10€ seems incredibly cheap for something like this!
