We stayed four nights in September. It was a special birthday celebration for my wife and we were joined by our children. So expectations we high and our wish was for a luxury treat for us all.

Our experience was overwhelmingly positive and memorable. Hotel staff were welcoming, courteous and helpful whenever and wherever we met them. Ever smiling and gracious from the first hello to the final farewell. We all loved our rooms and slept in comfortable beds. Special mention for the remarkable showers. Quite unusual, huge wet rooms were the center of conversation! The rooms were well equipped and well maintained.

The children made use of the Spa and loved the experience which for us was the whole point of the weekend

There are lots of things that make a hotel great; location, the building, the staff and the services. Attention to detail is crucial and Gran Melia Rome hits the spot on all counts. The setting for meals and the bars makes superb use of the grounds. the hotel is a few minutes from Vatican City and 10-15 minutes pleasant walk from the main sites.

We enjoyed breakfast with a superb range of foods with plenty of options made for a filling meal each day. The special order omelette and crepes went down very well!

The Red Level concept, first witnessed in Melia Alicante is a nice twist and worth the extra cost. If we have a small criticism it would be the snack selection which seemed to be the same each day. A little variety would be appreciated. But that is being picky more than compensated by the free flowing sparkling wine!!

Finally value: Our bill for 4 days was far more than we normally spend for a city break! This was a special occasion so the bill was expected. Gran Meliá Rome is an expensive place to stay but I also believe it gives great value. We love Italy and will return to Rome, there can only be one hotel to stay in when we do.

Room Tip: If you can, request a garden room, our suite was not and we still had a fantastic room.

We expected great things from the hotel based on previous reviews and we weren't disappointed. Perfectly located, we managed to walk everywhere that we wanted to visit and it was good not to be right in the centre. Our room was a decent size and had a private garden which was lovely to sit in after a long day out, especially as the pool area was busy.
We ate in the gourmet restaurant one night and the casual restaurant the next (due to bad weather). The experiences were very different. Gourmet restaurant had wonderful staff, an impressive menu (food was delicious, especially the tomato ice cream) and generous wine measures. The casual restaurant had a very limited choice of really quite ordinary food (I didn't finish my dessert) and the service was not up to scratch for this level of hotel. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, so I can't comment on the service level.
All in all, a very good stay in Rome. Visit Marco G restaurant on Garibaldi (10 min walk). Wonderful food with great service and Euro98 for 2 people. Bargain

Dear Guest,

thank you for sharing your comments about the recent stay at our Luxury Urban Resort.

We are happy to learn that you enjoyed your Gran Melia Rome Experience, particularly appreciating the VivaVoce experience, our Gourmet Restaurant, driven by the Michelin Starred Chef, Don Alfonso Iaccarino.

On the other hand, we regret that the Casual Restaurant did not fully meet your expectations. Its menu is linked to a different concept than the Gourmet's but it is generally highly appreciated, aslo due to its location by the pool.

On the whole, we are so glad to know that you lived such a lovely experience while visiting the Eternal City.

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon to keep enjoying the magic of this unique City...

Arrivederci,

Our family of three stayed here for 5 nights (8/16-8/20), I can't say enough great things about this hotel - from the service, to the location, to the fact that it had a pool - I will always stay here on any future visits to Rome.

Ewelina from the front desk always had the best recommendations for all of our requests. She never failed to direct us to the best places to eat, sites to visit, even where we could go to do our laundry! Vincenzo from the restaurant was so friendly and accommodating, can't say enough good things about the staff!!

The pool area was amazing for our 7-year old son, who probably enjoyed that better than all the sites we saw in the city!

I definitely plan on coming back to Rome and will stay at this hotel every time!

Room Tip: we stayed on the 5th floor which had very nice rooms and a great view

I don't normally write on here if I'm honest, due to being an extremely busy person and for perhaps not truly seeing the need to write a review of how my ravioli was cooked or whether there were enough pillows on my bed. Nevertheless my stay at the Gran Melia in Rome however, compelled me to write this review. I am 19 years old, and this was my first stay in Rome. Perhaps me and my girlfriend just got lucky, or perhaps every hotel in Rome is completely perfect beyond anything I've ever come across before, who knows. My stay at the hotel was amazing, perhaps one of the nicest trips I've been on. Maybe you'll read this, maybe you won't, but if you are planning on booking this hotel, do so. Book it and do not look back, it will be the greatest decision you'll make in a long while. That's all you need to know.

Scott Williams.

From the moment you drive through the gates of this former convent you know you have found something special. Exquisite grounds, inviting resort pool, poolside cafe and restaurant and a beautiful mix of classical Roman and contemporary decor welcome you. The front desk was friendly, helpful and solicitous. Surprisingly the food at the cafe where we had our first nights dinner was finely prepared and moderately priced. The buffet breakfast was opulent and included in our tariff. Anastasia at the front desk was charming and helpful in providing recommendations for dinner as well as walking directions. The clientele was obviously very European and although we were just a couple there were many families enjoying what the hotel had to offer. Our room was compact and had a odd layout especially the closet and bathroom..but the ambiance certainly made up for the lack of closet space. We will definitely return to the Gran Melia.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a larger room if possible. New enjoyed our view of the pool area and grounds.

Great hotel away from hustle and bustle. Great rooms and service.Within close proximity to the Vatican and able to get the City tour buses at the Vatican piazza.
Pool area amazing relief from the July sizzling sun. Shuttle service available to the city centre but traffic in Rome is always a problem so plan to cater for traffic delays.

This beautiful hotel on the west bank of the Tiber River is truly an oasis in the hub-bub that is Rome. We walked to the Vatican and ancient Rome (not in the same day). In the late afternoon we took a dip in the pool. The room was beautiful. The gym was a size reasonable for a European hotel. The buffet breakfast was bountiful.
The issues I had were with the staff who did not live up to a 5 star standard. It took 30 minutes to get a 12 Euro bottle of beer delivered to my chair at the pool side. When I asked to print out my boarding pass, I was told there was no computer available for guests to use. I was offered an I-pad after I signed an agreement to pay the hotel 600 Euro if I broke or did not return theI-Pad. Then it would not print to the designated printer so the concierge had to use his computer to print out our boarding passes after all.
We arranged a tour through a tour company that the hotel recommended. We were told that our hotel bill would be charged 70 Euros per hour for a minimum of 3 hours even if our tour was shorter (our tour lasted 2 1/2 hours). I was therefore surprised when at check out I was charged 490 Euros for a 7 hour tour. Instead of the gentleman at the front desk correcting the erroneous charge (no one could spend 7 hours at an archeological site in 98 degree F. Rome summer day, he said he could not do anything since his manager was not present. After reasoning with him for 5 minutes, he did finally reduce the charge to the 3 hour minimum.
I felt at several times during our stay that the staff have been instructed not to trust the guests. I think with some customer additional service training, a very good hotel could be transformed to a great hotel.
