we stumbled by chance on this nice place that specailizes in food from southern italy. it was funny because some of our group was on there way to southern italy just after the Rome visit.

We went to a concert at the Theatre of Marcellus in the Ghetto. We'd wanted to go to Da Gigetto but it was closed for the July season. So we walked across the bridge to Trastevere and followed the lights and people. Although it was quite late they were still serving. The service was good, the prices reasonable, and the restaurant was clean and welcoming.

We fell upon this restaurant by accident on our first night; we were only in Rome for a week but the food was so good we determined to go back before we left, which we duly did, and it was just as good the second time. The food is delicious, unpretentious, home-style fare (the chocolate souffles were beyond wonderful!), very reasonably priced, and the hostess was just what you want, friendly, welcoming and helpful, without being intrusive, as were the rest of the waiting staff. I couldn't recommend La Ciurma highly enough!

We ended up accidentally in "La ciurma del pescatore" as we were looking for a restaurant, which was mentioned in our city guide - and we do not regret our choice to have eaten there. The food (octopus salad, squid and shrimps on the grill) was excellent. The homemade desserts (e.g. Tiramisu) are really tasty and literally ask you to go for a second round. The wine card offers also a good choice with affordable prices. It is true, that it can get crowded and therefore the service a little bit slow, especially on weekend evenings, but don't forget that you're on holiday and that you have time to enjoy the pure roman atmosphere in Trastevere. If this does not help, you can still ask for a shot (Amaro del capo, preferably) after dinner to relax :)
Over all we have had a great time at this place and we will for sure come back once again in Rome.

I went here for our final meal in Rome, as it was just around the corner from our apartment. It has a great patio and lovely food. We both ordered pasta - I thought the carbonara was especially good. I highly recommend it. I think the service here may be even slower than most roman restaurants (read - 45 mins to an hour to get the bill) but... it's so beautiful, why would you want it to end? Note - it gets busy. As with most places in Rome, stop by earlier in the afternoon and get a reservation.
