“Good food, great service”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

We found this lovely restaurant hidden away on a quiet street in Trastevere. We ordered prawns with liquorice and sea bass with mushrooms, both very good. The owners and waitress were both very friendly (unlike some waiters we met in Rome!) and the ice cream dessert was delicious. I would definitely eat there again when i return to Rome. The price for the fish menu was very reasonable too and we enjoyed the peaceful location away from the busy roads. Thank you for a great evening and making us so welcome.

“Good food, not so good service”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

The sea-food we where served by our waiter (the only waiter at the restaurant) was nice. My lobster was great and we both enjoyed our pre-course. Also good wine. The problem was that we waited to long to get the food. The waiter explained that they where supposed to be 2 and not her all alone. She still was nice to us, but at first served the wrong food and it took too long to get the food. If they would get the service up a bit, im shure that this could be an over average restaurant in Trastevere.

“Glad we found this gem while wandering through Trastevere”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

I was here about 3 weeks ago with my family, and I was absolutely flabbergasted to come back home and read the trip advisor reviews of easily the best restaurant we ate at in Rome, if not all of Italy during our 8 day trip. Did we eat at the same restaurant?

Anyways, the review. We found this place by accident on the last night of our vacation, a Sunday when many other places seemed to be closed. Personally, I had been disappointed by the food we had eaten in Italy so far (with a couple exceptions, La Grappola Blu in Montalcino was one), and especially in Rome; so I was desperate for a meal that would truly live up to my pre-trip fantasy of what an Italian meal should be like.

La Ciurma del Pescatore fulfilled that desire, and more. To start, we were seated right away, but we realized after we had started drinking and eating bread that we were right next to a noisy air vent. No matter, the waitress graciously moved us and everything on our table to another, less noisy table. The outside setting was fantastic; a tiny little square with not too much foot and vehicle traffic, but quintessentially Roman. The bread was the best we had had in Rome, the house wine equally as good.

The service was great (as it should be at a new restaurant). We never felt like we had to get the waitress' attention; everything was brought out promptly, yet not so fast that we weren't able to enjoy our conversation together. At one point, half a bottle of olive oil was spilled on our table; the waitress took it in stride, and couldn't have been more courteous about it.

For starters, we ordered the bruschetta, which, given the quality of the bread, could not possibly be anything less than delicious, and then a mixed salad, which was without a doubt the best salad I had in Italy, with a variety of about 5 different greens and vegetables, something we didn't see at many other restaurants on our trip.

For the main course, both my father and I ordered the gnocchi alla sorrentina, which we agreed was absolutely divine. The gnocchi were homemade, and delicious, the tomato sauce tasted fresh, and the mozzarella melted beautifully on the top with a bit of basil to cap it off. The portion was the perfect size, a little small by itself, but with bread, bruschetta, and salad we left feeling full, but not overly so.

Once she saw we were finished, the waitress came over and offered us dessert. When we declined (we had plans to get gelato later), she seemed to think that our reason for doing so was that we hadn't enjoyed something about the food or the service, which was absolutely not the case. Amazingly, she came back and wanted to offer us something on the house, either dessert or some dessert drink, or pretty much anything we wanted. Even though we wanted to get going, we accepted the limoncello to be courteous, and thus topped off probably our best meal in Italy.

“Cold, slow, bad service”
Reviewed April 12, 2012

The place looked nice, inviteing. Food might be good but when we were there, the new part was so cold, we had to keep our jackets on. After we ordered the waiter came back that half of the ordered dishes aren't available any more. We had to wait over 1 hour for the food to be ready (5 people, all ordered pasta) and the pasta was so al dente that it was almost completely uncooked. There was even a hair in one of the dishes.
