My friends and I happened upon this place by accident. We had been walking all day and just needed a place to grab a bite before returning to our hotel. We were not disappointed. The food was good and the owner/manager very engaging. we all had different plates and each was great. We enjoyed the place so much we returned for at least three additional meals.

One great thing they had when we were there was an Menu service that included appetizers, pizza, half bottle of water, and dessert for 12 Euro. Great price and enough food to leave you stuffed.

ReD is a fun place, always busy with locals and a great atmosphere.

I ate the antipasta at ReD least 4 times and it was good each time, espicially for the price. Usually, in the late afternoon, I enjoy a cold Peroni and a nice anti pasta. It just seems to round out the afternoon. I had several Anti pasta plates from various places around Rome and found ReD to be the best value and taste for the money. I'll be in Rome this September so we will see if standards have changed.

After eating at Red on the first night of our stay in Rome, we were really surprised to read such poor reviews. Red hadn't been recommended, but was simply one of the closest restaurants to our B&B (Daysleeper, just around the corner) and having been up since 2am to travel to Rome, we wanted to eat somewhere nearby. Admittedly, it doesnt look like anything special and there was a strong smell of fish outside which almost put us off entering due to the fresh fish outside (it doesn't smell inside). We were served by Alberto, who was most helpful- adapting the menu for us, without charging us much extra. The crayfish for two (32euros, and actually a lobster) was served to us with the most simple yet wonderful pasta, langoustines and mussels for just 4euros extra. Having never been a massive fan of shell fish- this was a risk- and one that paid off! I'm now a convert! We weren't charged for bread, the house wine was lovely, and cheap (5euros for 500ml), unlike some we had elsewhere and Alberto offered us our third half-bottle on the house. We both had dessert, I had lemon sorbet which I later found out they give to everyone at the end of their meal- so instead we were given a plate of delicious pineapple.
One down side was that a couple of people selling things freely walked into the restaurant and up to our table, without the waiters asking them to leave, which felt uncomfortable whilst eating.
However, the food was quite possibly the best we had during our 4 days in Rome. We recommend!
