“Unique stay in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2013

You should know that this hotel is one of 5 B&Bs. We stayed in the Antica Dimora De Michaelis property and loved it. It's as if you're staying in a old apartment building that happens to feel like a museum inside but somehow it's still quite cozy. The location is perfect. The street is quaint with antique shops, eateries and more. We are no strangers to activity but we walked to Piazza Navona, Pantheon, the Trevi fountain, the Vatican and from the Spanish Steps. We visited all of the main attractions and only took a cab to the Colosseum as it was a bit far and we knew we'd be walking a lot that day. It feels oddly safe to walk around at night through the old streets and alleyways.

Breakfast was included and delivered promptly at the time requested: rolls, jam & butter, yogurt, coffee/tea & OJ.

Unless you are very familiar with Rome streets, spring for the cab to get to the hotel from Termini. It's not easy to find for first time visitors. There is no reception area so you have to buzz the attendant on location and someone will come and let you in.

The only negative I can say about the hotel is that the shower didn't drain well in our room. We would definitely book with this group again. If you have any questions or concerns leading up to your stay, email the hotel. They answered my emails quickly every time.

Room Tip: Higher floors may be quieter. However, we did so much when we were there, once the shutters were clo...

Dear Ms AnAtlantaFoodie,

Thank you for taking time to leave a comment on tripadvisor.

We are a group of six different B&B located in Rome city center.

The new one, totally renewed, is located just 30 meters to "Antica Dimora De Michaelis" and its name is "Antica Dimora Delle Cinque lune".

We hope to welcome you again in our new structure for your next journey in Rome!

Best Regards

Anna Maria

We just returned from a great trip in Rome where we stayed at Antica Dimora de Michaelis. We had a wonderful stay there and would stay there again in a heart beat. First, the location was a great home base for 4 days of walking in Rome. We walked to the Vatican several times (15-20 minutes, the Pantheon (5 minutes), Trevi (20 minutes). We also walked to the colosseum which was a 30 minute easy walk. As you've probably already read, this isn't a conventional hotel, it's a B&B. The was an onsite housekeeping staff that was there in the mornings to bring breakfast, accept payments, and straighten the 3 rooms on the premises. With the windows open at night, the street sounds were a bit noisy. The room itself was great- very spacious, uniquely and colorfully decorated as you've seen. A family could easily occupy a room and be fine. We really enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. There were two small things that could be improved: The wifi access was really sketchy and unpredictable- after 2 days we discovered that it worked great in the hallway and with our door open, but if we closed the door the signal completely vanished?!? The other thing was that that I had planned on using AMEX to pay, and there machine was down that morning which cost me 3% of the stay. Everything else was great- again- a very comfortable place to stay, great location, great restaurants all around, a really neat find. Oh and one more thing, you'll quickly figure out the one minute walk to Piazza Navona- it's easier to let cabs take you there and just walk back to your room.

hi,
I have just returned to Milan with a great natural memory of my recent stay in Rome.
I decided to stay at "The old mansion De Michelis" for the originality of furniture and the strategic location of the structure. I must say that I have never had a description of the place so true: "the way of the Coronary" focused antiques where at the end of the street as you find yourself in a book of fairy tales on the bridge of Castel Sant'Angelo, can you see the life of modern Rome mixed style rinascimetale which gave an impression in the old town for centuries.
"the abode anitca De Michelis" fully absorbs the identity of this street made famous in the past. The staff is friendly and helpful but discreet at the same time as required. I recommend this stay for every travel occasion, lovely for a young couple as a family outing as happened to me: soggionavo with my mother but that does not stop me from fully grasp the spirit of the structure.

At first my daughters complained they could not sleep because of the cardinals and dying baroque maidens the wall, but in the end they did get used to them . I would definitely recommend this apartment to anybody who wants something a little bit different.

It was really unusual for us to stay in the room with so unique décor. Thanks to its colorful decoration, large paintings on the walls, even ancient wardrobe , and also antique shops which you see from the windows and of course thanks to nice breakfast which is served on tea-tray to your room, you can feel that you just jumped to the past for 200 years ago and stay in the hotel of that time in the heart of Rome. It’s true everything is very close to this place: piazza Navona (1-2 minutes), Panteon (5-7), Vatican, Trastevere, Piazza de Spanga and via del Corso (not more than 15-20 minutes). We made our sightseeing by foot there; we took taxi only to the train station Termini. I would definitely recommend this hotel especially for people who come to Rome for the first time. The drawbacks for us were lack of the large mirror and low lighting. The advice to hotel: the staying could be comfortable and pleasant for ladies if you put the large mirror to the room (in full height).

Lovely B&B on the second floor of a building full of character. Half an hour walk to the Vatican and Colosseum, a couple of minutes to Piazza Navona and 10 to the Pantheon. Perfect! Breakfast just right to start your day off.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper take earplugs, as it's an old building so of course no double glaz...
