After spending four days in crowded Rome under the hot sun, my daughter, sister and I signed up for the cooking class in Mazzano with chef Monica. We took a short trip to the countryside to a charming 16th century village away from the hustle and bustle of Rome. We stopped at the butcher shop and produce shop to pick out all our ingredients. All the food was made from scratch with everyone helping out. We learned how to make fresh paste and sauces along with dessert. The only compliant was that our stomachs weren't large enough to finish all the dishes. If you are even thinking of going to Rome you definitely need to add a day to experience this part of the Italian culture.

If you want a truly unique experience and to learn from the best, spend a day cooking with Monica and Virginia! My husband had booked the day for Meghan (my daughter) and I to spend together as Meghan is a junior in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Purdue and has ambitions of becoming a chef. Our morning started with Monica walking us through the Jewish Ghetto on the way to market, where we chose fresh ingredients for the fettucini, ravioli and gnocchi we decided to prepare. We really got a sense of "true" Italian cooking......it was hands-on and very fun! Monica and Virginia were extemely personable and we are still re-living the great memories and trying to re-create their recipes, but hmmm.......it isn't quite the same! It's nice that we can refer to recipes on the website to keep trying until we can get something to taste similar to that fabulous day!

To get out of Rome for a day and do this cooking class was a breath of fresh air despite being less than an hour from Rome. Monica was most welcoming and shared her passion and skills for traditional Italian food crafted and consumed in good company. A new respect for pasta.

Doing the cooking class with Monica in a small village outside Rome was one of the highlights of my Italian holiday! She provided excellent step by step instruction and helped us create a delicious dinner. The class was small and everyone had hands-on experience. Unlike other classes I've taken where I just watched, I really learned from doing. I recommend this to anyone who wants to learn homemade pasta and delicious sauces. Nice chance to interact with international students.

We thought that a day inside cooking might be a waste when the sun was shining and lots to see in the city. It was however a wonderful day. The staff were fantastic. The trip around the market butcher and deli were a revelation. And the cooking experience was terrific. There a a couple of party pieces but they were great fun. And at the end of it we had a fantastic meal with great wine. Finally we went to Fabio's restaurant for pudding and coffee which was superb. In fact the restaurant had been visited by one of our fellow budding chefsand we went there the following night. And the one after that. Not bad recommendation from a packy yorkshireman!
