Best Western Hotel Astrid
Ranked #218 of 1,267 Hotels in Rome
Certificate of Excellence

We chose the Astrid for it's location, we were attending a concert at the Stadio Olympico. The Hotel is about 20 minutes easy walk. It is also very convenient if you want to visit Maxxi Art Gallery as this is only 10 minutes walk away & the Museum of Modern Art is 20 minutes walk.
Tram service to Piazza del Popolo is just around the corner & takes about 10 minutes.
Our stay was enhanced by the excellent receptionists who had very good information about the local restaurants & also details about bus/tram routes.
Breakfast was very good & is included in your room rate, it's a continental buffet.
Our room was a boutique room, this had a balcony & good space for your luggage & would be good if you were visiting for a Six Nations Rugby match, shame the Stadio Flaminio is no longer used as for this as it's even nearer.
Would happily stay here again if we need to be in this area of Rome.

Stayed at this hotel in February 2013 for the Italy v Wales Six Nations Rugby Match. The hotel is ideally situated right between the Stadio Olympico and the Piazza de Popolo. There is a tram line when you turn left and immediately left again outside of the hotel. The tram travels left to the Stadio Olympico, just go straight to the end of the line (approx 7 / 10 mins). As with any rugby match the trams are pretty packed but you can also walk which will only take 15 -20 mins. The best advice would be to go to the stadium early as there is a massive 'Peroni Village' where you can find bars and plenty of food outlets. Fantastic atmosphere.

The tram also travels right to the Piazzo de Popolo where you can then hop on the train and in 2 stops you're in St Peters Square.

The hotel itself is in a mainly residential area but there are 2 really good restaurants out of the hotel and turn left again. There's also an Irish Pub and a Coffee shop and a supermarket a short walk away. The hotel is on the banks of the river and has a fab but distant view to St Peters from the rooftop and the breakfast room.
The staff at reception are very welcoming and extremely informative and will help with any query you have.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and have plenty of space although they are slightly smaller than others i've stayed in whilst in Europe. There is also a fridge in the room and tea/coffee facilities. Bathrooms are again not the biggest but plenty of room although my husband who is 6ft 5in did struggle with the shower. This problem occurs in most european bathrooms. Wi-Fi is also FREE in your room which is fantastic as most hotels now do charge extra for this.
Top Tip - request a room overlooking the front of the hotel as this will give you a view over the river to St Peters. Rooms the opposite side of the corridor look out onto an internal courtyard area.
Breakfast, despite being Continental is again brilliant. Plenty to choose from cereal, yoghurt, cold meats and cheeses, croissants, pastries, bread rolls, teas, coffee's and juices.

If you are staying for a few days it is beneficial to buy a Roma Pass, available on line to buy and you then pick up at a relevant point and activate when you arrive. The pass allows you to travel via all transport (Tram/Bus/Rail) throughout Rome over several days. It also gives you access to certain tourist sites such as St Peters Basillica, Colliseum etc.
Be prepared to do a lot of walking in Rome wherever you stay as it's not exactly compact but it's wonderful.
All in all this is a gem of a hotel which will keep your costs down in a very expensive city. we will be back!!

Room Tip: Request a room facing the front of the hotel overlooking the river and out in the distance to St Pet...

The hotel was situated a 10 minute tram ride from Piazza de Popolo. It is in a quieter part of the city with a few local restaurants in the vicinity, so for us the location was perfect. The hotel itself was pretty basic. Our room was very small, and quickly became cramped once unpacked. The beds were two singles strapped together with a blanket and were very saggy in the middle with a hard ridge up the middle. There was a fridge in the room which didn't work and blew out hot air into the room from the top of it!! The shower is TINY! I am a petite 5"3 woman, and I had to squeeze in through the doors and my 6"0 partner really struggled. Luckily we were out most of the day, so the room size wasn't a huge problem. Staff were on the whole lovely. We only had one problem one night, when our neighbouring room were being very noisy at 1.30 in the morning. The member of staff in charge were very slow to react, and after several phonecalls asking them to do something, we ended up in reception at nearly 2am to complain. All other members of staff however, have been incredibly helpful and the cleaning staff also very friendly. Breakfast was satisfactory, plenty of nice cakes and pastries, with a selection of meats and cheeses. The photos on the website, are somewhat misleading however, there are only a couple of cramped tables squeezed onto a tiny terrace, there is not lots of outside dining space! the laptops with a printer next to the breakfast room is a fab idea, and was perfect for helping us to plan our day ahead.
All in all, the stay was ok. It was plain and basic, and not all Romanesque like many hotels and did the job.

The staff was fantastic! Hope Laura gets a well deserved promotion - she was so incredibly helpful explaining the area and the public transportation, even gave a short but very helpfu lesson in Italian! Rooms were small compaired to american standards but very clean, beds were very very comfortable.

The only down side to the stay was the breakfast staff- coughed all over the food so we decided to only eat the yogurt and coffee and got something extra (if we needed it) when we went out. The staff member also asked when I was going to leave (mid-sip of my coffee)--

Despite the breakfast room, I would definately recommend this place and would stay here on my next trip to Roma!

Room Tip: If you need a view ask for the 4th floor on the road side -

The staff here are fantastic. Three ladies (including Laura) helped us during our stay. Even the maintenance guys and housecleaning staff are very courteous and polite.
The reception staff helped resolve a transportation issue we had with an online company. They called multiple numbers for us, without charging me long distance, and they handled it all (I didn't even have to worry about translating). They are just great.

Breakfast is toast, cheese, salami, croissants (along with yogurt, cereal, coffee and juice). But the best thing about breakfast is the VIEW! You overlook the river, a street and you can see St. Peter's dome!

Rooms are small but kept clean. The shower is the toughest thing, since it is a stand up, very narrow corner shower.

All in all, a great place to stay!

Very clean hotel. We arrived unexpectedly early for our check-in. They gave us the room a few hours early without us even asking (we were just going to leave our bags). They also sorted out our airport shuttle for us. it was too late for us to call so the girl at the front desk called in the early am and by the time we woke up, she had it sorted out for us (same price as taking train there...anyone should take the shuttle).
The water in the mini-bar is free. Great!
The breakfast was awesome. honestly...it had anything that you may want.
This review would be perfect if it weren't for location. It's not close to attractions (20-30 minutes away) It is a safe walk though...the area is fine to come in late at night.
Overall, great experience.
Oh...free computers and printer to use. Awesome for printing boarding passes.
