“Excellent service!”
Reviewed July 9, 2010

I stayed at this hotel during the first portion of my trip to Italy. I shared a room with my cousin for 3 nights. The room was VERY clean and was pretty typical to what you'd expect in Europe. The service was excellent, from the lobby desk to the bartender. A complimentary breakast is offered daily (it was delish!). Although not too close to things, it's a quick cab ride for less than 20 euro. We were able to walk to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain just fine. Highly recommended!

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Oxford. The staff was very friendly & helpful. They are not as centrally-located to the major sites, but you can easily walk everywhere if you're willing. The hotel provides you with great maps of the city and we used it throughout our trip. The breakfast is good and the rooms are nice. The free internet in the lobby/salon was very nice.

We stayed at this hotel on a short break for some time out together as a couple in Rome. The staff were incredibly friendly and approachable and nothing was a problem - which is what you want when arriving in a foreign city without any of the language. Our room was a great size with a view onto the street and very comfortable. And while I didn't expect the hotel to be quiet, I was proven wrong as we both slept superbly. The food in the restaurant is worth sampling too. We had dinner there on the night we arrived (we arrived late and they kindly kept the restaurant open for us without any deliberation) and had a very good meal. This was a hotel of the highest standard for its rating, and yet it never felt impersonal or abrupt in the way some of the bigger hotels can. Its location is s a short walk from some handy restaurants and some of the better cafes populated by locals. We splashed out and availed of the car service which the hotel offers. For 55euro they organise a car to meet your plane. It made the trip all the easier and left us to concentrate on enjoying Rome.

First off, this is not a 4 star quality hotel, its more like 3. However the staff are excellent, efficient, attentive, discreet and are 5 star.

The hotel is conveniently located, 5 mins taxi from station with many of Rome's attractions walking distance. Its a fairly small hotel and our room was pretty small and a bit tired, but impeccably clean, daily cleaning was of high standard. The room insulation was outstanding, 3 nights of great sleep even though busy road outside and we were at the front.

The bar was very good and we actually used it every night for a drink after our meal. Prices were sensible and cocktails very good. The barman was brilliant and really made the bar, attentive but discreet and made a real effort with the snacks supplied with the drinks.

Breakfast was mediocre, but okay. Coffee horrible, ask for cappuccino or espresso instead.

Not sure what the price was as we booked as part of a multi stop tour with Thomas Cook but compare to 3 star venues.

Tried the hotel restaurant on 1st night, was okay but not great, but sensible price, recommend la cantina but ster clear of il bite, horrible, dirty pizzeria around the corner.

First off I'll get the negative stuff out of the way.
- When we arrived at our (room 124) it was tiny! The bathroom only had a shower and not a bath (smallest shower in the world!) The queen size bed was along one wall with a mirrored wall on the opposite side, with the TV on the same side as the bed!? Difficult to watch any TV (good job we didn't want to). However after realising how small this room was we noticed a tray with a half drunken cup of coffee with a couple of croissants and 3 packets of light bulbs! We complained about this straight away and the Manager waived the fee for our late snack in the bar. I should have asked to change the room but it was late and we both very tired.

- I was also a bit disappointed with the Breakfast. I booked because it said Full breakfast was included, however it doesn't include HOT items, this you have to 4EUR extra. They bring out your Tea or Coffee and then you can help yourself to cereals, croissants, pastry, bread rolls and you can help yourself to orange juice.

Okay onto the positives, location wise it's a 10 min to Via Veneto which has plenty of restaurants which can be pricey, further down towards Barberini there are some shops and more in the side streets which are well worth a look. We had dinner one of the evenings at the hotel and it was absolutely delicious and very good value! We had Antipasti to start, I had sliced Steak with some parmesan while my wife had Mozzarella and parma ham. Both were excellent. The main meal we both had pasta (I think cannelloni) and that was excellent as well. With both anti pasti, main meals and two drinks the bill was 34EUR, excellent value!

The other positive was the waiter at the bar, very good and spoke good English and gave us very good service each evening we were there.

Overall I probably wouldn't stay here again simply because of the price. My tip is if you get room 124 or any other room that seems ridiculously small then ask for another room, the pictures show larger standard rooms so ask for one of them!

As for Rome itself it's a gorgeous city and we wouldn't hesitate to go back, I will do a review of the trip on the forum in due course. Any questions about the Hotel just PM me and I'll get back to you.

Ciao!

This was a good deal through BA though cancelled once when we finally arrivede we were pleasantly surprised. Small but compact and extremely clean. Helpful staff in all areas of the hotel. We would definately consider staying here again this was our first visit to Rome.

Nothing really to do with the hotel but why when the tap water in Rome is grand do they try and tell you its against the law to give you a jug of it with your meal ?

We stayed at the Oxford during the last week of March 2010. Having read previous reviews we decided that this was agood deal as we got 5 nights for the price of 4 and had free upgrade to 'superior' rooms! Having pre booked a private cab from the airport, at a cost of 45 euros we arrived at the hotel after a 45 minute journey from Fumicino airport. The reception is pleasant and the staff were very friendly. Despite receiving an upgrade to 'superior' rooms we were allocated very small pokey rooms, one on the first floor and one on the second. Previous reviews concerning the very narrow stairway were completely true and yes the lift only goes to the second floor! The rooms both backed on to a central nondescript area which made the rooms very dark. Having said that we spent little time in the rooms so we weren't unduly bothered, and they were clean and tidy. I reported a faulty shower head to recption on our first evening and it was replaced whilst we were out. The reception staff were able to reccommend some very good restaurants within walking distance and the two that we ate at were superb, the taverna Flavia and La Pentolaccia. We had also pre booked a trip to Naples and Pompeii which meant we had to leave the hotel at 06:30 and despite being told that we would be able to have breakfast before we had to do without as they wouldn't let us in until 06:45!! These were minor irritations and did not spoil our stay at the Oxford. We would stay here again but stipulate larger rooms next time.
