“Stayed with the Family”
Reviewed September 14, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for a few nights in August with three kids. This hotel was fine for all we needed. It was clean, the staff answered all of our questions, breakfast was more than enough, it was quiet at night, and we were able to walk to some attractions. We took shortcab rides to other attractions because it was very hot as well as a bit far for the kids. We thought this hotel was a great value and were happy.

We booked a room at the Oxford hotel well in advance. On arrival we were told there was a problem with the aircinditioning and they were putting us in an apartment. After walking a couple blocks with one of the hotel staff dragging our suitcases, we were shown to our apartment. Not what we expected. No hotel backup, no mini bar - in particular no bottled water, no instructions on how to use any of the facilities, wifi, tv etc. There is no security which doesn't provide a comfortable feeling. The apartment was shabby and dirty. When we rang the hotel to complain they said they would send some water to us and some extra toiletries. We didn't require toiletries, we wanted a hotel room. Not what we expected. We will not be staying at the Oxford in Rome again.

Dear Guest,

first of all we apologize for the inconvenient caused during your stay at The Hotel Oxford.
Unfortunately we had a serious problem with air conditionig and for this reason we gave you an apartment, just 100 metres from The Hotel Oxford, our property as well.
The apartment is very comfortable, modern and bigger than a standard room and it is not shabby and dirty as you can see on our official website.
We would be happy to see you again in our property to show you our standard of Quality that you can see from all the reviews on internet.
Thank you for your attention,
best regards

Hotel Oxford is located a little outside the main tourist area. It's about a 15 min walk from anything of interest. The staff is friendly and helpful and the building, while old, is clean on the whole. They offer a very good Italian-Style breakfast every morning free of charge. But I wouldn't stay there again for three reasons:

1) The rooms are too small. Your bed takes up at least two-thirds of the floor space making it difficult to find a place to access your suitcase and stay organized. The washroom is even tighter, needlessly featuring a bidet. In addition, the hallways are tight and tiny elevator doesn't go up to the third floor!

2) The location is too far outside the tourist area. This may be a good thing for some people because it's quiet, but if you're someone who likes to stay out late, you're going to find the dark empty streets a little unsettling unless you're walking with a group.

3) The wifi signal was so weak in my room that it was almost unusable. My iPad and iPhone were constantly connecting and disconnecting and when it did work it was very slow.

An excellent hotel; friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and a good breakfast which set us up for the day. Must say the lift was a bit small! The hotel was further out than we thought but still within reasonable reach of sites and transport links. We would certainly stay there again.

Hotel was clean and reasonably well placed but a little bit shambolic particularly at breakfast where only two staff had to cater for everyone (who all seemed to arrive between 9 & 9.30am) Staff tried very hard to be efficient but due to the volume of people it was very difficult.
Decor is very tired which makes rooms quite dull and appear cramped,
Having said all of that it did a job - was a place to lay our heads after busy days sightseeing.
Rome itself was fantastic.

Hotel Oxford is quite small and wasn't what I was expecting, the bar/reception are literally in the same room! The lift was so tiny only two could fit in at once, the room was pleasant but I couldn't have stayed there for more then 3 nights! The location isn't the best probably about a 25 minute walk to the via Veneto. There arent many resturants or bars near by, so you would need to visit the via Veneto for that. The resturant was closed one evening which wasn't very helpful. Pleasant stay but wouldnt be my choice if i was returning.

The hotel furniture may seem a little outdated but the room itself was clean and spacious for a family of 3. The staff are always pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast offered a good variety of food and decent coffee. The evening menu is reasonably priced, offering a selection of pasta or pizza dishes with complementary breads and salads, there is also a decent choice of Italian wines. I would recommend eating here, as we tried other restaurants which were disappointing and overpriced. The only minor thing about this hotel is that the air con flow was weak. We are grateful to the staff for all their help and will certainly stay here again. Thanks to Carlo, Stefano, Manuela and Anna and everyone else whose names I cannot recall.
