Rooms were TINY. Staff at hotel were unhelpful, felt we were intruding. One phillapino waiter was lovely, hope he finds somewhere he will be appreciated. Will never go there again I'm afraid.. No tea or kettle in room. Only just enough space to climb out of bed on either side, cleaners waiting outside the room at 8am to do their jobs, banging from workmen in the next room started early, breakfast staff taking food away before people had finished serving themselves...I could go on and on but I think you will get the idea.

Room Tip: Choose another hotel

We booked with Broadway Travel via the Teletext website. If you use Broadway, make sure you give your passport numbers at the time of booking because it’s impossible to get them on the phone after! I called about 5 times and each time gave up after 20 minutes of waiting. This is terrible as it’s an 0845 number which costs a fortune. I complained via email and they rang me back a couple of hours later.
We flew with Ryanair. I cannot fault their service in any way. They got us there safely and the staff were friendly. £2.70 for a cup of tea was pricey but what the heck, we were on holiday.
Our hotel was the American Palace at EUR. We arrived at 2pm and our room wasn’t available until 3pm, but they kindly took our luggage and locked it away for us whilst we headed into Rome for some sightseeing. The staff were friendly apart from a stroppy breakfast room woman. On the first morning, there was no-one at the entrance of the breakfast room, so we just wandered in and found a table. This suited woman came at us ranting in Italian and after I said “pardon?” in English she spoke in slower Italian and I grasped that she wanted to know the room number. I showed her our room key and she smiled and left us to it. I don’t think that’s how you should treat your guests!
The breakfast buffet was very good as there was so much choice. There was luncheon meat style ham, sliced cheese, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sliced tomatoes, bread rolls, bread for toasting, cornflakes, muesli, croissants, Danish pasties, chocolate doughnuts, walnut cake, almond cake, red orange juice, pineapple juice, milk, tea, coffees, yogurts, pears, apples, melba toast, jams, marmalade and chocolate spread.
I read the reviews for the hotel before I booked, and was worried what the room would be like, but chose it because of the proximity to the metro and the supermarket as we were on a budget. Yes, the TV is rubbish (old tube style) and the room is on the small side but we really did not spend a lot of time there. The room was perfectly clean and the bathroom wasn’t damp. While we were there it was 37 degrees and the air-con was a godsend! If you are very overweight you probably wouldn’t fit in the shower. The balcony was a nice touch, but my son said he would have preferred a bath! There was some traffic noise, but it didn’t keep us awake.
If you put your used towels in the bathroom sink, they give you fresh towels each day.
The Laurentina Metro station was a 5 minute walk away. An unlimited travel 3-day metro ticket cost 16.50 Euros.
There’s a Carrefour supermarket just 2 minutes away (look on Google Maps). We had a picnic in the room each evening: salami, olives, avocado, salad, pesto, mozzerella etc all from the supermarket. We used the refrigerated mini bar to store our stuff. As with all hotels the minibar was stupidly priced!
We’d definitely stay there again if we go to Rome again.
My tip for sightseeing in Rome is to buy your tickets for the Vatican and the Colosseum online before you go. Without tickets you have to queue, and the queues are horrendous! We literally just walked straight in past the queues. I used these websites and had no problems whatsoever:

Very nice hotel in EUR district. Although it's quite far away from the city center, it's well connected - a few minutes away from the hotel, there's a metro station.

Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Rate was also very good - 59 euro for double room including breakfast (good choice of ham, cheese, vegetables and soft drinks).

Plus points
Hotel situated in a business area with metro 10 minutes walk away. Good connection to Termini where you can access all the main sites by metro or bus.
Exterior and ground floor of hotel attractive and spacious. Restaurant staff and porter aslo very helpful - most staff speak some English.
Breakfast offers good choice of cereals, bread, fruit yoghurt and hot dishes and is constantly being re stocked.
Negatives

Hotle situated on a very busy road and rooms at the front are very noisy. We were very shocked at the size of the rooms we were allocated- very very small. Not sure how the hotel achieved its 4 stars as only extra facility was a small fitness room located in the basement.
Internet very very limited and we were forced to go to an internet cafe as we needed it for work.
Complained about the connection but was told that the problem was not the fault of the hotel.
Hotel charged maximum prices for extras.
There was asuggestions box in the foyer which was full of papers- it remained full throughout ours stay and it seemed to us that no-one was interested in empying it. Poor customer satisfaction
Rome- wonderful city-buy a mtero/bus pass for 6 euros a day to travel all over. Go to Piazza Navone at night- very beautiful

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. These rooms also appear to be a little larger as well as quieter

Ok so arrive all excited then enter the room to be confronted byTHE ATTIC......two small port holes for windows that you had to tip-toe to see out even though we are both tall!!.. TV didnt work and banged our head numerous times on walls as they are sloping, damp on the walls. Aaaargh!!!, moved to another room the next morning that you could not swing a cat in (figure of speech), Missing towels, faulty sockets, no tea making facilities. Breakfast the same every morning and very limited in variety. This hotel is advertised as a FOUR STAR but should really be down graded to a three at a push. In fairness the staff are very friendly. And the location was very close to the Metro

Room Tip: Stay away from the sixth floor, attic rooms
