“Vastours Ancient Rome - Don't Bother”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

The front end of this tour was very disorganized. When we arrived at the Vastour office we were told the tour would start at 2, not 2:30 as advertised - fortunately we were early. We sat on the bus while a variety of Vastour people came and went from the bus after makin cell phone calls. Our tour guide was knowledgeable but her heavily accented English made it difficult to listen to her - particularly over the headseats provided. The "skip the line" part required extensive negotiation by the tour guide at each stop - with attendant waiting around. It seemed to involve the two very young children on the tour with a family group of 8. At each attraction the tour guide, after discussing who knows what with the admission people would have the two children come to the front of the line so that the admission people could see them. It really wasn't an appropriate tour for a 4 and 5 year old. Nor did the tour run for the advertised 4 hours, in this case, mercifully.

“Bad and good”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

The Grand Tiberio Hotel sent us information of these tours but did not mention the company, oh how we wish they had. The offered a reasonable price for a tour of Caesar's Rome and St. Peters and Vatican with a discount for cash and a pick up from the hotel to the company's offices and return to the hotel. The tours were in the mid afternoon and early morning. The first morning, a Sunday, their pick up van was not working so the hotel called a cab which was paid for. What congestion at the office. Only three people to cope with the mass of people, not all spoke English The credit card machine was not working and fortunately we had enough euros to pay for the tour. Our first tour was of the Coliseum, the Forum and St. Peters in Chains church. We knew we would be walking but was under the impression that the coach would take us from place to place. 4 hours of walking and standing, great if your young and very fit. We were given amplifiers to hear and that was good. The guide who turned out to be the owner of the company was absolutely the worst guide we have ever had the misfortune to have. He talked non stop to to the driver all the way to the Coliseum and than raced ahead, not keeping the group together, and then we all stood waiting for 30 minutes while he went ahead to get our tickets. He did not explain anything very well and certainly did not know much or if he did, certainly did not pass the knowledge on. He certainly did not know how to guide a tour. All the passengers were not at all happy. We walked uphill to St. Peter's in Chains to see the fabulous statue by Michelangelo. Then another long walk to the Forum. By this time the weather had changed and it was getting decidely chilly and we were all quite cold. He could have asked if we were okay and wanted to go back to the bus, but oh no, we had to wait till he filled up his required time. When everyone was on the bus, he only talked to the driver again, not so much as a goodbye and thank you. No tips for him from anyone and no applause either. A job very badly done. The drop offs for the passengers was not at their hotel but at the nearest point, at least several minutes walk away.

The second tour with Antoni was far superior. He is to be recommended, He was intereting, he kept the group together and was very informative about all the Vatican intricacies. Although we had to wait until the booking was processed he gave us time for the restrooms and then to show us a poster of the Sistene Chapel and told us stories about the murals and what they signified. We then went through long halls of great art, the Tapestry Room and Map Room and the Chapel where in a hushed voice he told us more information. I would recommend him. But I will not recommend this company at all.

“Ask for James!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

James was our tour guide today as we walked through the Michelangelo's Moses, the Coliseum and the Roman Forum. We loved him! As my 9 year old son said he was "the bomb". And if you don't know anything about 9 year olds that is as good as it can gets. It was a lot of information but the minute detail made you feel as if he cared about what he was talking about.

Wrong time information, running late, not being picked up, missing out on seeing attractions, totally disorganized, waste of my expensive time in Rome.

“Unorganised, unprofessional and disinterested!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

I travelled with my husband to Italy last month and booked a half day Vatican tour in english with Vastours. From the very beginning they were an absolute mess. They had overbooked and after waiting for one hour beyond scheduled time we were hussled into a bus along with a spanish tour group. We were joined by an english speaking tour guide at the vatican. But the issues continued. We could barely hear through the ear pieces we were given and the guide was unable to do anything about it. She then started talking as if memorized from a script (which we any way couldnt hear too clearly) and seemed very bored herself. She did not entertain any questions and was even rude when we did. We walked past such marvellous works of art clueless of what they were. This was an utter waste of money and it spoiled the day for us. DO STAY AWAY!
