“Luxury this is not”
Reviewed August 5, 2012 via mobile

After our hotel in Florence this was a super come down. The room smelled of smoke and needed updating. Our bedding had some old blood stains on. Breakfast is not worth getting up for with cold, weak coffee and some bread and meat and it's basically a bin fight. The staff are helpful in the form of the lovely Dennis but the others often ignored us as we came in. The hotel is near lots of sights though and is only 3 star

After booking 7 MONTHS in advance I was a bit disappointed at the fact we had been assigned the SMALLEST room in the building (105) - which is shown on the floor plans - and it was actually a single room - with an additional "put up" bed - not good for a couple sharing their anniversary !!!
However - we put up with that inconvenience as the room and bathroom were clean and tidy, and we didnt want to "complain" as we wanted "no hassle" on this special week.
I would have to dissagree with others about the staff in this hotel however, as (apart from the lady who changed the towels and tidied the room), not a single one of the others ever greeted us with a smile or nice comment.
The location is very good however - and the breakfast was ok - clean and tidy - though the rooms are small - with no kettle or space to have it either.

Room Tip: If you are offered a room with the number 105, 205, 305, 405 - then dont accept it unless you are tr...

Me and my boyfriend stayed here 3rd-8th June 2012 on our first visit to Rome.

I admit i was a little wary after reading mixed reviews, and didn't know what to expect. But by the end of the week i really couldn't understand how people were leaving bad reviews and complaining about it!

Staff
Dennis on reception was fantastic, couldn't do enough to help us. Very friendly greeting and explained everything so well. I had taught myself a little Italian to get by but with him there was no need, not sure how many languages he spoke but the next morning i am pretty sure he was checking spanish guests in! Breakfast staff were very friendly, very helpful when checking that the food was nut free as i have a severe peanut allergy. We aren't coffee drinkers so i couldn't comment on this, but the tea was good, cereals good, ham and rolls good, then cakes you could take away for later in the day. I never have breakfast, but did here every day and wasn't disappointed! Again, don't understand how people can complain.

Rooms
Yes - a little on the small side, but what is the problem with this?? You are only there in the morning, a little in the afternoon, then to sleep at night. The bed was fine to sleep in and that's all that we were bothered about. There's so much to see and do in Rome so for how much time you will actually be in your room, then size doesn't matter! Towels were thin, but they did their job and dried you off, it's too hot over there to have thick towels!

Places to eat
With having a nut allergy it is quite tricky, but we did find a great little place to eat literally just around the corner, La Cucina Nazionale. Very helpful staff, food was lovely and the price was reasonable too! I would strongly recommend the apple pie for dessert! Other recommendations for eating out (some of these i noted from books and found to be true); Don't go to places in the main touristy squares, they are quite a bit more expensive, don't go to places that have the menu in 6 languages, and don't choose places where the waiters are stood on the street trying to pull you in. Look down the little side streets and you'll find some gems!

Location
Fantastic!! Literally a two minute walk from Repubblica Metro Station, tickets are sold nearby for 1 euro 50, hop on and hop off where you please. Originally i planned to walk around between all attractions, however they tend to get busy quite early, therefore if you stay here and choose to go to the Colosseum or Vatican first thing, i would advise that you take the metro, get there before 9:30 and walk back. The hotel is also located just off via nazionale where you will find most shops. We enjoyed having our evening meal, then walking up to Repubblica Teatro dell'Opera and sitting on the fountain, watching the crazy Italian traffic! Note to those thinking of going over, they DO NOT stop for pedestrians, regardless of the fact that you are on a pedestrian crossing, they only stop if they are within a few feet of hitting you. So be careful. Fun to watch though! The main attractions are within good walking distance, and termini station is only a 5 minute or so walk away too.

Overall....
An excellent little find right in the heart of Rome, good transport links, good selection at breakfast and friendly staff. Really enjoyed our stay here and when we do go back to Rome, we will definitely be staying here!

I highly recommend this hotel for its' proximity to major attractions. One must throw away the North American idea of room size and amenities. The friendliness of the front desk and a more than adequate buffet breakfast are welcome additions to a hotel that is only a few blocks from the central train and public bus station. The Coliseum is a half hour walk or a ten minute taxis ride. Walk if you can, great people watching and window shopping. We stayed at this hotel from June 03 to June 07 2012 prior to a cruise on the Mediterranean.

Room Tip: Choose the main floor. Close to the breakfast room and computer work station. The elevator to upper...

Spent 10 nights here in June 2012. The staff was friendly and helpful; to include the people who worked the free breakfast. The location was perfect. The size, comfort, and cleanliness were all good. I would recommend Hotel Patria and will be staying there again on my returns. I really have nothing negative to report.

We've just returned from 7 nights in the Patria Hotel. Yes our room was very small, so was the shower room. I think it would have been better if the washhand basin had been a bit smaller, it was a tight squeeze past that and the toilet. Alternatively you could sit on the toilet with your head over the basin if you'd had too much to drink! The breakfast was a bit too much of the same thing for a long stay, but we found it adequate and didn't have to bother eating too much at lunchtime. We ate most nights at the George Byron cafe/restaurant nearby, the staff there were very friendly and the food is good. The hotel is very handy for most of the sites which were about 15 - 20 minute walk away. The staff were very helpful and friendly and would recommend it for a short stay rather than a long stay. We took our own kettle after reading some of the reviews about no coffee/tea making facilities.

After reading many mixed reviews of this hotel I was a little concerned about our booking, but I need not have been, what a super little hotel...
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Patria for my birthday, and we would definitely stay here again! Very central hotel, very clean - room cleaned, fresh towels (yes, they were unusual but certainly big and very absortbant) and beds made every day, nice to come back to after a long day sight seeing.. yes the room was a little on the small side to what we expected (I too was looking at the pictures on the website - but I am sure those rooms come under the luxury rooms bracket!!) Still could not fault the room though.

The hotel staff were all really friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them and Dennis on front desk is a star... never did quite work out how many languages he could speak!

The breakfast was continential style, with plenty of cerial, fresh rolls, ham, cheese and fruit - tea and coffee - enough to start the day...

All in all a very pleasant stay...

Room Tip: Suites are on the ground floor I believe (as pictured on the website) these rooms are named and not...
