“Not a four star hotel”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

I stayed at Hotel Genova last week. Room 603. I am accustomed to European hotels with small room and did not mind the size for one person. The room however was dark with windows that do not open; so you could not see the sunlight. There were marks on the wall. It needs to be painted. The bathroom was ok but on my first shower the sliding doors came off their track. There were black areas around the shower doors and hinges which will indicate the presence of mold. Did not bother to mention that to the staff but wanted to post it so that future guests know about that.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front of the building.

Stayed for one night on 11/14/13 and had a nice stay there. The hotel is older but clean and well maintained. The room was large and comfortable for us. The location was perfect, only a couple of blocks from the Termini, since we took the train into Rome. Just short walk to the Colosseum or back to the termini to pick up the metro for a ride across the city. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful, especially Claudio who took great care of us. They gladly stored our bags as we explored Rome and picked them up on the way out of town. Breakfast was nice and a good start to the day. We would recommend this hotel and stay here again.

This hotel is an older hotel that has been remodeled. It has a interesting style to it. The front desk personnel did seem a bit uninterested in helping us , but we were with a tour group, so maybe they just let our guide do all the work. The rooms were comfortable and large in size. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. We did enjoy our stay there, but all we did was sleep there - and eat breakfast - loved the nespresso machines in the breakfast area. It is a quaint older but modernized hotel.

Stayed in this hotel from 15.11.2013 to 18.11.2013.
I had the booking done through agent in Doha. We were a couple and two child, one 4 years old and one 7 month old. Room was assigned as "double + 1 child" in confirmed booking voucher. Although I insisted on agent to list the infant for baby cot he said you can ask the staff once you checked in. On arrival i mentioned the case to receptionist gentleman but he ignored and didn't suggest any solution. Surprise was when i got in the room i saw they have not even considered the bed for 4 years old. You pay for "double+1 child" but ooops our rooms not big enough to accommodate the extra bed for your child. I let it go just in hope that i put the review here and wish the staff will see this for future reference.
The free wifi was not accessible in our room big parts of the time. Breakfast was ok. Maids serving breakfast were very friendly and clean. Hotel's Location is a comfortable walking distance from termini the main station for railway/metro and bus in Rome. In general the hotel is good and i Would suggest this hotel for singles or couples without children.

Nice hotel with cute bar and lounge, staff helpful and friendly. Rooms small, but nice and clean. Plenty of hot water. Breakfast had lots to choose from. Close to metro and train station. Would stay here again.

If you are going to visit Rome, and everyone should, Hotel Genova is a very nice clean convienent location to stay. The staff was friendly but the beds were very hard but nice and clean. The rooms aren't large but big enough. You will need an electrical adapter for your devices. Buffet breakfast was ok. The only problem I can say we had was with the free "Wi-Fi". Although it was free they always seemed to have a problem with the server and we could not get on-line.There are so many great restaurants and stores right outside the Hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room with very nice push-out windows and shutters. It was real nice to be able to open the...

Well check in was good, got in late - about 1 am. So they were ready for us, provided a very dark and comfortable sleep. Rooms are larger than most European stays. Here's the negative, the toilet leaked and/or someone pee'd on the floor (prior guest) and the maid maybe missed it? Anyhow when we put the bathmat on the floor it immediately turned a brownish yellow. We notified the front desk of this right away, and they said "tomorrow" and gave us new towels. Well tomorrow we check out. The mini bar fridge does not work, everything is warm and one of the bottles had a fuzzy mould on them, and so did the "clean" glasses left in plastic bags, --- as if to say they were sterilized. The bottle opener was sticky and mouldy as well. The towel bar warmer did not work. Night manager called 1 hr after we complained- telling us she's sorry, but no offer for different room or discount or anything. I can discuss in the morning with the manager. ---

I can accept a lot of difference in quality of room from North American standard to European, but this is the worst of the bunch on a 3 week adventure through 4 countries. I travel for business 130 nights/ year and I'm not being overly picky. I expect courtesy, cleanliness and respect- which most travellers expect from a service provider.

I'll update the post with the results of check out, but if you can get around the cleanliness issue, it is a good location- if that's what you need.
