My wife and I loved our time at the Hotel Barocco in August 2013. It was simply the best hotel in which we had the pleasure to stay during our trip to Italy and we would stay there again in a heartbeat. It is clean, luxurious, exceedingly comfortable, and centrally located. The breakfast is top-notch and features the sort of high-quality food that you would not expect to find in an included, complimentary breakfast. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and they speak perfect English. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect:

The bed:
Not your typical European slab of granite. Our bed was very comfortable and had soft sheets and pillows. We slept like babies.

The bathroom:
The bathroom is tastefully done in marble with modern amenities. The shower is incredible and features an enormous rain showerhead and soft, colored LED lights.

The breakfast:
This breakfast was the best we had in Italy. Fresh blocks of expensive aged cheeses, dried fruits, fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cereals, breakfast meats, aged salami and sausages, fresh juices, assorted freshly baked pastries and tarts, plus made-to-order omelettes and hot egg dishes. It was quite the spread and it was all delicious.

The location:
A mere 5-minute walk to the Fountain of Trevi and 2 minutes from the Capuchin Crypt and Barberini plaza, Barocco was a fantastic base of operations for exploring Rome, especially the Trevi and Pantheon neighborhoods. It's about a 5-minute, 8-euro cab ride from Termini.

The staff:
The staff was fantastic. They were friendly, helpful, engaging, knowledgeable, and spoke excellent, nearly unaccented English. They made what was already a wonderful stay even better.

I would highly recommend this Hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, going above and beyond. The room was very cozy, beautifully decorated, very clean, quite with a great size bathroom. It was perfect for us. Being a tourist, walking in dusty ruins all day, I really appreciated the cleanliness from the crispy white cotton sheets, great mattress and the sparking bathroom. Our room was also made up twice a day. The hotel also had offered English TV which was a great treat as we had been travelling around Italy for 2 weeks with very little contact to the rest of the world ( I am an English speaking Canadian). The Hotel location was fantastic as the Hop-and-Go green bus was right across the street... very nice after a full day of sight seeing and very sore feet. The hotel is also within walking distance to everything. The price also included a full breakfast, including bacon and eggs (you don't get very much of that in Italy), and free Wi-Fi .
Or last night we received a plate of dolce and a hand written note and it really made us feel special. I would definitely stay here again : D

Thank you once again
C. Cavanagh

We stayed here on the 3rd leg (London, Paris & Rome) of our first trip to Europe. It was a family trip and we all agreed that it was the best hotel on our trip. The staff was excellent and went out of their way to help us with a few issues (non-hotel issues) that came up. The rooms not only were clean and spacious but were very elegant. It was in an excellent location that seemed to be centrally located to everything (we walked everywhere). The only negative was that the fountain was under repair so our excellent view of it from our room was blocked by construction walls.

We stayed at the Barocca Hotel for 1 night in June and it was perfect. The service was excellent: the staff were friendly and went out of their way to offer advice and information.

The room was luxurious and yet cosy. But it was the bed that was simply fantastic - great bed linen and a wonderful mattress. Even though the hotel is just off a busy road, and our room faced the street, we were not disturbed by street noise. Excellent hotel.

Hotel Barocco was clean, had very friendly staff, located in a very convenient area, but it was small, especially the room. The hotel is off a small side street from Piazza Barberni, which is near many of the Roman tourist attractions and the red subway line. The downside to the location is that the restaurants around the area are the typical tourist style restaurants. The staff was very friendly, and when I experienced problems with the Wi-Fi, they immediately took care of the issue. The room was clean, but small. The hotel overall is a small hotel in an old building, which is expected in an ancient city. Do not expect the typical American style hotel. I do like they have fresh fruit when I checked in, and the turn down service. They provided a plate of nice cookies at night. Depending what one is looking for and the cost, this hotel is good, but I think I would look at others before staying. I think the cost was a little high. That is not to say I would not come back here again, but I think I would look at others before rebooking.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review. It is always important for me to understand who is behind a review and their profile. When reading yours, it is evident that you normally select more "modern hotels" which obviously meet your taste and expectations (reviews of 17 August, Rome hotel). This is therefore the key in order to interpret your review, as well as your comments that the hotel is situated in an ancient building with smaller spaces.

From the moment that the character of the Hotel Barocco, starting from its name, but also from the description of the rooms, is very well described, I am surprised that you would have chosen our hotel for a stay in Rome in the first place, to then be critical about it in your review. For the majority of our guests, the possibility to stay in a ancient building in the heart of Rome, yet with modern facilities and an excellent service, is considered to be an added advantage and not something negative.

In regards to your comment on the size of the rooms, this is an issue which has been widely covered both by the guests and the management on numerous occasions and which you would have most probably read beforehand on Trip Advisor seeing that you are a senior reviewer. I therefore leave the readers of this forums to draw their own conclusions. Albeit I would like to say the following:

- your booking was made through a hotel portal. You selected a classic double, which is the smallest room type we offer and also the most economical solution. If you had a necessity for a larger room, you could have chosen another room type among the 7 different categories, in which case I am sure you would have found the right size room for your requirements.

- in regards to the area in which the hotel is located and the quality of the restaurants I would like to point out that, like all the city centre of Rome, there are many types of restaurants from the more touristy to the more elegant. Had you asked our concierge for assistance, I am sure he would have been able to recommend a restaurant to your liking.

Best regards
Franco Caruso
