Quiet location and also very quiet within the hotel when we were there recently. We were not particularly bothered by street noise in our balcony room on the 5th floor. Good air conditioner unit. Room smallish but fine for a few days. Very comfortable, large beds, good housekeeping and lovely towels. Problem with both drawers in wardrobe as, annoyingly, neither opened or closed properly but husband sorted them out.....
5 mins walk to buses to St Peters (62) and other main attractions. 10 mins to Piazza Repubblica (nearest metro). 15 mins to Villa Borghese. 20 mins to Trevi Fountain , Spanish Steps and Pantheon. Roma card will cover buses and metro plus entrance to 2 attractions and discounts on many others. We are fit and walking is fine for us but hotel may be a little out of the centre for some.
Family run restaurant (110) right next door. A real gem. What it lacks in ambience inside it makes up for in food – great dishes at reasonable prices. Better food than Café Paive round the corner (in our opinion). Barbara, waitress and daughter of the owner, is really friendly and speaks perfect English.
Hotel provides large umbrellas for loan on wet days.
Views from roof terrace (can just see St Peters Basilica). Only had one cocktail up there but nice to have a view.
Breakfast a bit mediocre, but adequate choices. Fresh fruit salad and yoghurts were welcome but sometimes it was tinned fruit.
Actually warmed to this hotel despite the lukewarm, professional but rather patronising welcome. Had problems with the safe, and door lock, but both were sorted out satisfactorily and promptly. The young reception staff could be rather aloof but there is one older man who is a delight – lovely sense of humour and very helpful (he booked Villa Borghese for us – a fabulous place). He may have been the manager. Nice lounge to await taxis. If returning to Rome would try a different hotel in another area but not because we didn’t like this one. We really enjoyed our stay in Rome and the location of the Marcella Royal was fine for us.

Room Tip: 5th floor has balconies, tiny and only suitable to stand on for a view but nice to be able to do that! Not recommended if you have children with you as could be dangerous.

Stayed at the Marcella Royal for four nights in September 2012 and was very impressed. I had read a few reviews that had made me wonder if my choice of hotel had been the right one. But from the moment you enter the reception you realise you are in a quality establishment.
You get the impression it is more of a large boutique hotel as all the rooms have a different feel about them.

I was in a single room that was bigger then some doubles I have stayed in. It was equipped with a TV, excellent shower facilities, a large wardrobe, desk, safe, mini bar and a good sized, comfortable bed and there is also free Wi-Fi.
There was some minor damage from previous guests but nothing that you would not have expected and the room was very clean.

All the staff were first rate. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I must mention the Concierge who was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

Breakfast on the roof terrace is a real taste of Rome. With views over the city and a wide selection of continental style breakfast food, all well cooked and presented with excellent service from the staff.

The hotel is on a quite road near the main train and bus station so access is not a problem. Most of the main tourist hotspots are within walking distance for those wishing to explore on foot. Again ask the Concierge who can draw you up an interesting walk through Rome.
There is also a large selection of restaurants close to the hotel that are cheaper then those in more popular areas, but service excellent quality food.

To stay in a single room cost a little over €500 and I would happily pay that to stay at this hotel again. Very, very good.

Extremely disappointed with this hotel. Room was very small, which we kinda figured it would be, but 1/3 of the rooms walls were covered in mirrors-incredibly tacky. The bathroom door wouldn't shut, and the old style key hole in the bathroom door-which wasn't anything other than a small hole in the door, was filled with toilet paper!!! This place needs major updating. Reading other reviews, we must've got one of the bad rooms. The staff was really rude, with the exception of one guy who checked us in (can't remember his name) but they make you feel like you're inconveniencing them. The bell boy might as well just opened the door to our room and tossed our bags in!! Location of the hotel isn't too bad. AC was so-so. The only positive was the rooftop deck, but even that was pretty pricey. You can go down the street to another cheaper restaurant. The website pics from the deck are pretty deceiving also, you see ALOT of rooftops or high buildings, not a great view of the city. Mornings were often greeted with dirty laundry bags in the hallways. This place is Motel 6 quality (sorry Motel 6!)

We were really delighted with this hotel and happy that we stayed here for our 4 day break to Rome. The staff and especially the manager was the most helpful we have met. The hotel is in a quiet area of Rome and we used the public buses to travel around after being advised to do so by the manager. This turned out to be great fun and a cheap way to travel all round the city. The roof top terrace was beautiful and perfect after a busy day sightseeing around the city and for a last drink after an evening out. Our room was on the small side but very clean and comfortable, we would definitely choose this hotel again when we return to Rome.

We travelled as a group of 6 and we were all really pleased with our stay. The main highlight was the breakfast. It was on the top of the hotel and we could see all across Rome.
Our rooms were pretty dated but the shower was good and beds were comfy so can't really moan. My adapter did get stuck in the plug socket though and was a bit dangerous but the maintenance man sorted it. We could hear conversations going on from the room next door, very clearly, this would have been annoying if they weren't our family :)
Quite a walk to most things but not so bad if you are happy to explore which we were. Overall a good stay.
