Ambasciatori Palace Hotel
Ranked #282 of 1,271 Hotels in Rome
Reviewed April 21, 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights and I was a little apprehensive having read other tripadvisor reviews. We decided on a city break in Rome to visit the wonderful historical sights NOT to spend time in a hotel room. The room was a good size, with a large bathroom with a bath and shower, 2 wash basins, toilet and bidet. There is a flat screen t.v. mini bar/fridge, large bed, large wardrobe and a safe. This was more than adequate for our needs. A few minor irritations: the A/C did not work very well, the bath plug did not work and the water drained away and there were not enough clothes hangers in the wardrobe....as I said minor!! The room was clean and serviced every day. We had clean sheets and towels every day. Some areas could do with re-decoration but in my opinion it would be a pity to spoil the appearance of this old building by decorating it in a more modern way.The decor in the room and throughout the hotel was in keeping with the age and style of the hotel. We ate breakfast in the hotel and there was a good selection each day. The fruit juice however was AWFUL...we think it was powdered juice made up with water...tasteless and considering there are orange trees on the street disappointing!! We did not eat dinner in the hotel, but their menu was in keeping with other places we looked at and the prices were similar....everywhere is expensive to eat!! The staff were friendly and helpful when we needed them (not often). Via Veneto is a lovely part of Rome to stay in and there are bus stops and a metro station near the hotel. There are lots of attractions within walking distance too. Please do not be put off staying here, especially if you get it at a good rate as we did on a Last Minute secret deal.

Dear Margaret,

thank you for choosing the Ambasciatori Palace during your last visit to Rome.
With reference to your comment we had some problem with the air/co as the reception staff advised you, but after few hours everything was reactivated.
Regarding the water drained if you called the maintenance or the Front Desk staff they could help you changing the room or handing out more clothes hangers.
We are happy to know about the helpfulness of the staff and we wish you will return at the Ambasciatori Palace in the next future. Please address me your reservation in order to upgrade the room.

Kind regards

We booked this through lastminute.com as one of their Secret Hotels and became a bit apprehensive when we read the reviews. However we have been pleasantly surprised. We were given one of the newly refurbished rooms on the fifth floor, beautifully decorated in grey tones with thick heavy curtains, white linen, large rainfall shower, and a very slight smell of fresh paint. It felt modern, clean and relaxing, it was also surprisingly large with a sort of walk-in wardrobe area. The location is good - we walked to the Colosseum, Forum, Trastevere and Vatican from here (though we are good walkers), as well as the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps which are both only ten mins walk. Breakfast is varied and tasty, and the staff are lovely, particularly in their welcome as you arrive. Any complaints? The pillows and duvet are synthetic rather than duck down which isn't as luxuriously comfortable as you might like in a 5* hotel - but that's it! If you book here, ask for a newly refurbished room and you will likely be very content.

If people on here took note of every negative comment on here most hotels would go out of business, this hotel is at a five star standard for its country, I stayed last night with my sister and my daughter and couldn't fault it.... Yes the rooms are dated but I had two bathrooms yes two! Where else are you going to get a hotel in the centre of Rome for peanuts sort it out people if you go to Rome and spend all your time in the hotel room there is something really wrong with you! I used the room to sleep in, the rest of the time believe it or not was spent out enjoying the sights. Bravo on a dated hotel in a wonderful location with first class service and the best breakfast I've ever had in Italy, note to the rest of the dimwits on here....... If you can't afford to come to Rome and stay in an 1000 euro a night hotel don't come as you are poor! Save us all from your negative thoughts and moans..

....as this is what you get.

How this can be rated a 5 star hotel I'll never know... Nowhere close! Maybe, just maybe a 3 star.

We booked via Last Minute secret hotel deal and that's the last time we do that. Up to Reception you could be forgiven that things are going to be ok but after that it's all downhill faster than the Italian economy.

Staff are great, friendly and welcoming but the building and decor haven't seen a touch up since it was built by the look of things. Room (436) was an ok size with a decent size bathroom but very dated and no tea/ coffee facilities or iron /ironing board. To be fair they did provide us with a kettle when asked.

Air con didn't work and being April that was just about ok but it was stiflingly hot in the room. The problem with keeping the windows open was the construction that started in adjoining rooms at 7 am - maybe they are doing the place up after all!

Breakfast was actually pretty good and they did have working FREE wifi on the 4th floor

Location wise it's ok but don't eat on Via Veneto, far better places a short walk away.

In Summary if you get a good deal and think its a good deal for a 3 star hotel take it...if you're expecting 5 star be prepared to be sorely disappointed.

We got a secret hotel deal through last minute.com......think maybe you always get rubbish rooms as a bit cheaper. Room tiny .....nothing like any pic on website. 5 star hotels usually give you hair conditioner, complimentary water, coffee making facilities, air conditioning, newspaper, hairdryer in room etc... you get NONE of these at all! Like being back at the most basic hotel from years back...did not feel pampered at all in tiny tiny, very noisy room....want my lovely room back home! Husbands birthday on arrival ...told the hotel but NOTHING as a gesture. Would not return or recommend ...want more on holiday! Staff are lovely however and very helpful.

Stayed four nights. First room was on 6th floor. Stank of drains and a very very hot room. Room was clean and bathroom well furnished. First night our room was so hot we had to open windows and then were bitten to shreds. We presume by Mosquitos. Notified reception and moved us to a deluxe room on another floor which was adequate but still in no way five star!

A lot of noise during early evening of building work not what you need when walked miles all day and want a quick siesta.

Location good but still a bit of a walk to attractions, found it easier to take the metro. Don't eat on Via Veneto over priced and food nt great, eat at that's Amore near Trevi Fountain ..... The best service and food we had all week!

Would not book another hotel through last minute. Misrepresented completely

Breakfast was good, wouldn't touch the hit food but continental is good and service lovely

Location of the hotel was good. 5 minutes walk to a metro stop and the Termini is only about 15 minutes. Also easily within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Quite a few restaurants and shops in the area and Via Veneto is a very nice street. Staff was always helpful and easy to interact with.

The reception and downstairs area of the hotel is very nice, our room wasn't quite 5 stars. I booked off hotwire and got a pretty good deal so I wasn't too bothered by it. The wood floor in the corner of the room was warped and raised about 2 inches off of the ground in a small area. The wallpaper over a doorway also had black areas, not sure from what. Nothing too significant, but it did detract from the room a little bit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Five-star luxury for the Ambasciatori Palace in via Vittorio Veneto, an elegant window facing the Eternal City. In an enviable location, the hotel blends the magic of traditional hospitality with contemporary elegance. Known as 'Ambassadors' Palace', it was originally built in 1903 and it has been the location of international affairs between diplomats from the nearby Embassies and a witness to the excitement of the mundane 'Dolce Vita'. The restoration was made according to the original structure of the environment, and repeating and interpreting the existing decorations: the Brazilian granite columns and the intricate wrought-iron balustrade of the grand staircase, the marble floors and the polychromatic mosaic and the pleasant succession of stuccoes, the Venetian chandeliers and skylights. The welcoming and aristocratic atmosphere of the Ambasciatori Palace combines with exclusive services provided and a careful attention to technology and comfort. The 152 rooms are bright, spacious and finely furnished, decorated in soft colors and aristocratic textures. The new Ambassador Rooms are equipped with TouchControl devices to adjust temperature and lighting and MediaHub to connect the HD screen to the TV audio/video devices. Guests can use the Fitness Center, dine at the refined and elegant restaurant 'La Terrazza', renowned for its culinary fame since the 1920's, the Embassy Bar and Bistro corner and complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all the rooms and public areas. The privileged position of the Ambasciatori Palace, in the business district, makes the Hotel the ideal location for business trips, meetings , exhibitions , banquets and vernissage. The elegant business center includes several multipurpose rooms of different sizes, some with natural light and overlooking via Veneto. The main hall is housed in the ballroom. The Ambasciatori Palace is the ideal place for an unforgettable stay among the most legendary historical-artistic monuments and the elegant shopping streets of Rome. A few steps from the Metropolitana Train (stop Barberini) allows a pleasant walk to the Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona and the main railway Station Termini. ... more   less
