“Classic hotel”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We booked 3 rooms for our family stay. I'm a Leading Hotel Club member so complementary continental breakfast was included but room upgrade was not offered. The staff were mostly warm and friendly. It's not a big hotel so after a couple of days you get to interact with most of the staff. Like many Rome hotels the rooms have actual keys with a heavy key ring so it's one of those hotels where you return the key to the front desk whenever you go out and ask for it when you're back. This can be a nuisance when other guests are at the desk and the lone receptionist is busy with them. I also don't like announcing my room number either. The room size was average euro size. The bathroom lacked a separate shower. The rooms could use updating and better window insulation. We were on the 4th floor but you could hear the music from an adjacent cafe till late. Breakfast was served in the ground floor bar area as the main dining room is undergoing renovation. The buffet was basic continental fare with an a la carte menu for eggs, etc..
Overall it's a 5 star hotel with a certain charm to it.

The Hotel Majestic prides itself on being a 5-star hotel. My family of 4 stayed there for 4 nights in August but we weren't impressed.

Yes, the Via Vittoria Veneto, where the Hotel Majestic is located, is a famous street, but the breakfast is a whopping 30 euros per person, which would've meant a 120-euro breakfast for a family of 4. The Via V. Veneto is filled with tourist-oriented cafes, but we wanted more neighborhood-like pasticcerias and restaurants, where we could get good, tasty food without paying exorbitantly high, touristy prices. The front desk suggested Cafe Suggesto for pastries, but we found their pastries stale and unappetizing. We ended up taking taxis to other neighborhoods, like Travastere, for all of our meals.

Also, the front desk service was quite cold and unwelcoming. We had reserved our rooms nearly 3 months in advance and requested connecting rooms. One would think that, with so much advance notice, the hotel could and would accommodate our request, particularly since they advertise the availability of connecting rooms. But no, the front desk clerk coldly informed us that such requests could only be accommodated "subject to availability." Of course, with 3-months' advance notice, the hotel could have made room assignments to ensure availability of connecting rooms but they chose not to. To me, that's not 5-star service.

Finally, the decor of our deluxe rooms (Rooms 411 and 412) was from the 1980's: All white lacquer furniture, room and closet doors have mirrors facing the room. The decor could use updating. Also, most 5-star hotels these days have separate showers and baths. Our rooms had a combo tub/shower, which is not ideal.

Just returned from a trip to Italy that included a stay at the Majestic while in Rome. It was a wonderful, fabulous experience. It is absolutely beautiful, perfectly located, immaculate, and has the most charming and gracious staff that will arrange anything you need. It is efficient without being stuffy. The roof top terrace is the perfect place to sit after shopping, sight seeing, etc for a drink and some relaxation. We loved this hotel and will return whenever in Rome. Marvelous experience.

Room Tip: We had a 2 bedroom suite which was beautiful. Frankly, I don't think they have a bad room.

The Hotel Majestic is located right at the famous Via Vittorio Veneto, home to some great restaurants and cafes and walking distance from the Spanish Steps. So a great location for tourists seeking to explore Rome.

The hotel rooms have with nice, high cathedral ceilings, and a classic early 20th century decor, huge bathroom and a comfortable king size bed. Very classy. Overall very high quality.

The restaurant and bar in the hotel are not that nice. A bit disappointing for a 5-star hotel. But there were plenty of restaurants nearby, so not a big deal.

The concierge could have been a little bit friendlier. When I asked him to make me a reservation at La Pergola, he was a bit standoffish, but made it anyway.

I paid around $200 per night, so for a 5-star hotel of this quality it was a great value.

We had only 2 days in Rome. This wonderful old hotel in the center of everything was just the ticket. The room was luxurious. Great service. Food was great, both room service and the breakfast on the terrace. I would definitely stay here again.

It's overwhelming when you start looking at hotel options in Rome. But the Majestic has everything you would want. It's location is perfect if you would like to be near the Spanish steps, Pantheon, endless shopping and restaurants! You can literally walk from your hotel. The hotel itself is on the small, luxurious side which feels nice compared to how Rome is such a busy and big city. The rooms are big compared to most in Europe with bathrooms of white marble and clean lines. The bed was fabulously comfortable and the decor of the hotel is classic luxury with bright reds, gold and all of the architectural detail you would expect to find in a Roman hotel. Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe room and you will have more space.

Often a hotel is booked thinking one won't be spending time in the room. This was not the case with the intense European heatwave this summer--siestas were a must. Hotel Majestic was a wonderful spot to adjourn to fabulous air-conditioning and clean, comfortably appointed rooms with a large (shower-functional!) bathroom. Perfectly lovely! The location is situated to easily walk to Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, Borghese Museum and the Spanish Steps. The area is near many restaurants, quieter embassy grounds and most importantly is safe. The Concierge recommended restaurant Girarrosto Fiorentino which was superb!

The staff at Hotel Majestic is exceptional. We were warmly welcomed and our many tourist questions were always fully and courteously answered over our three day stay. An unbelievable tale was when a camera was left in our returning taxi--the doorman keeps track of who arrives in and out--and out of all the cabs in Rome somehow the driver was located and the camera returned to a most relieved and appreciative guest!!! This is "above and beyond" any expectations and proves how hard they try to please their clientele.

The Hotel has a beautiful rooftop balcony for meals and drinks albeit a little expensive to US standards. We did not breakfast there at the 30 Euro price. There is a comfortable lounge area if one wants to read or work on business. The complimentary Wi-Fi worked fine in our room as well. We would highly recommend this hotel for comfort, location, price and amenities!

Room Tip: We were in room 424 (double upgrade) and loved it. Great AC, Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, huge bathroom...
