I recently stayed and the Hotel Cesari in Rome and I'm writing this review by way of warning. My experience was both good and bad, the bad being of a nature that I'd not choose to stay here again.
First the good:
The location is fabulous, It's just a few steps off the via del Corso, in the direction of the Pantheon. So, it's also close the the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the ruins of Ancient Rome. The pedestrianized street gets lots of foot traffic, but the double-paned windows do a good job of shutting out the noise.
I had limited contact with the staff, other than checking in and checking out. I found the people friendly and helpful.
I booked a "superior" double room. The room was quite large, with a sitting area in the corner, where windows overlooked the via di Pietra and the Piazza di Pietra. Some of the furnishings, the wardrobe in particular, looked as if they were original to the building, dating from the late 18th century. The remainder of the furniture was reproductions of a similar style. The king bed was two twins pushed together. I've found this to be the case in most hotels, even 4 and 5 star, in Italy. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. The room itself was spotlessly clean.
The wifi internet connection was free and fast.
Now the bad:
Breakfast was indifferent. They serve the worst cappuccino I've ever had. Fortunately, La Tazza d'Oro is just a few steps away and I could get a great cappuccino there for 1.10 euro.
At first view, I thought the bathroom was merely old, tired in need of gutting and re-doing. There was just a shower stall without a bathtub. The shower appeared to be clean, until I got inside and closed the doors. Then I could see all the mold that was hidden from view when the shower doors were opened. Obviously, it's hidden from the housekeeping staff, so they don't clean it. Maybe I'm too fastidious, but this really revolted me. I won't stay here again, nor would I recommend it.
