“Elegant Hotel/Great Location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2011

We just returned from Rome, having spent three days at the St. Regis Hotel. We arrived by train and it was a short walk to the hotel. The St. Regis is a beautiful hotel and looks like a palace when you enter. We found the people at the front desk very professional and friendly. The concierge was very helpful in suggesting restaurants in the area. We arrived late afternoon and decided to take the hop on hop off red double decker bus to get an overall view of Rome. The ticket is good for 48 hours so we used the bus again the next day to visit several sites along the route. After riding on the bus we realized how close we were to many of the sites. (Trevi Fountain, The Spanish Steps, Piazza de Popolo, Borghese Gardens, etc.) So on our third day we spent our time walking around Rome. We also signed up for a tour of the Vatican with Presto Tours, which was the highlight of our visit to Rome. Our tour guide, Ryan, was one of the best guides we have ever had in our travels to many cities around the world.
Back to the hotel...The room was a bit on the small side for a delux but very well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were very soft. In many of the hotels we stayed at on this trip, the linens were not as fine as those at the St. Regis. If traveling to Rome, I would definitely suggest staying at this hotel. It is elegant, centrally located and the staff goes out of their way to accommodate your every need.

We have been to the restaurant and tried the tasting menu, which was oke. The dessert was not really nice... The service was good, very friendly and helpfull. The lobby is very big which gives the feeling that you are alone in the hotel so I missed some liveliness in the lobby. The drinks in the bar are very expensive, 8 euros for a tea! The room was very nice, comfortable bed and big bathroom! Overall it was a very pleasant stay!

We truly recommend the St-Regis Grand Hotel in Rome, Italy. Located near the subway, beautiful restaurants and tourism attractions. The excellent service and the luxury of this hotel will make you return again and again. Bravo !

It exhudes old world elegance, beds are great. It was renovated a few years ago so it's getting a bit old. Even then it's extremely comfortable, very quiet. Our room faced the busy street in front of the hotel but the windows are so sound proof that you don't even realize you are in the center of Rome. Also if you have kids they have a special kids room with a movie projector and DVD player, Sony playstation, nintendo wii, snacks and drinks and a foos ball table. We had a great time.

Rome was the first city we visited on our Italian vacation, we started on starwood points at the St. regis for 3 nights. When we arrived our room was not ready yet so we went to the bar/lounge area and enjoyed 2 complimentary drinks and cookies :) 30 minutes later the room was ready. The rooms were very tastefully decorated not to over the top. The shower had plenty of room and the bed was nice to come back to after walking around all day. We did not eat at the hotel but did enjoy drinks in the bar/resturant/lounge area a few evenings. Drinks and service were both great and setting was very comfortable. The location is ideal for riding the Metro, resturants and walking around the city. We had an amazing time in Rome.

My wife and I were totally impressed with the rooms and service offered by the hotel. We really want to stay here again. WOW! The only thing that is a little weak is the location, but totally worth it.

We had the pleasure of staying at the St. Regis 2 days pre-cruise. We were travelling with our 2 teenage children. I used SPG points (Many!) to accomodate us in a Jr. Suite that connected to a Deluxe Room. Here are my thoughts....

Check-in:
We arrived around 7PM local time after our overseas flight. The bellman and doormen were very gracious with their welcome to some very weary travellers. The gentleman at the front desk was attentive and efficient with our registration and was able to confirm our connecting rooms. This was very much appreciated as not all properties are as receptive to accomodating families. After we were checked in, the gentleman came around and personally showed us to our suite which was on the third floor (read 2nd floor). On the way, he provided and infomative narrative of where things were located in this grand hotel. Upon reaching our rooms, he informed us that our baggage would follow us up shortly.....

Rooms:
We found the rooms very clean and well maintained.....which is the first critieria of any property. Then the WOW factor. The Deluxe Room was beautiful. Very ornate and spcaious. The marble bathroom was lovely and well laid out. The bed linens were sumptous. There was a nice seating area in front of the bed. We noticed that the bed in the room was made up as a king even though we had requested 2 beds. No problem. A quick call and a maid quickly appeared to rectify the situation. All in all, the deluxe room category was fantastic. Now, the Junior suite. Again, beautiful but not as well laid out. as the previous connecting room. The marble bathroom was definitely a step down from the deluxe room. It was as if they retrofiited the space and had a check list to make sure that all the parts were there.....but just did not fit! The sitting area in the suite was comfy with a small desk and an armoir with a flat screen TV. From the sitting area of the suite, one could past the french doors into the master bedroom. Again, lovely linens, wonderful mastress, but a very small room! For any interested readers out there, I guess that I am mentioning all of this, in that if it was just my husband and myself travelling I would most certainly opt for the Deluxe Room over the JR. suite.....points or cash!! And here is the clincher. We were under the impression that the Jr. Suite came with butler service. ( I should preface to say that we have stayed at properties with bulter service and the minimum service we have received is a quick courtesy call to see if we needed assistance with unpacking, clothes pressed, anything to make our stay more comfortable, etc.) We were not contacted at all except as we were leaving and a gentleman knocked and asked my husband if we enjoyed our stay......We were not sure if this was the butler or not. In the end, it really did not matter, as we did not want anything unpacked as we were moving on to the cruise in 2 days. In hindsight, we would have been a very easy client for Mr. Butler....because we really required nothing...perhaps a shoe shine....but no worries, his tip stayed securely in my husband's wallet.....So, dear readers......perhaps rethink if you want to pay for non-existent butler service because the suite itself does not merit the differnce in price from the deluxe room. Oh, and I want to mention that we were given a total non-view rooms. We had the pleasure of looking out at an aging roof.....but the flip side is that it was very quiet and lent itself to some very good sleeps. (Rome is a very noisy city....so this proved to be a good thing for a short stay!)

Concierge:
We found the concierge team to be very friendly, engaging and helpful. Our arrival night, we wanted to dine at a casual, easy walking distance restaurant with of course, great food! The recommendation did not disappoint. Target restaurant! For a quick, easy, delicious dinner, this establishment was a hit! The concierge was also excellant at routing out a map of some lesser known attractions ( we have been to Rome previously).
As an aside, there is a church "of the bones" that is within walking distance. Our kids were fascinated with this for some reason.....check it out and you will understand.

Restaurants & Bars:
We did not have the pleasure of dining at any of the hotel's establishments. I should mention that if the opportunity would have presented itself, I would have most certainly enjoyed a glass of champagne in the bar listening to the excellant pianist....ahhhhhh the ambience!

Check-out:
We had a bellman knock at our door at the appointed time to help us with our luggage. WE proceeded on to the front desk to depart. Everything was in order and our private driver was there and we left for the port.

Conclusion:
Would I stay here again? The million dollar question that all hoteliers want to know of their guests......The answer is PROBABLY....IF... I used points or if I was able to have a great negotiated rate. The hotel is in an OK location. We found it easy to walk to all the big sites minus Vatican City. However, it is not surrounded by the ambience that many other hotels are enxconed within. The personel were fine but certainly not as gracious as some of the other finer luxury establishments such as the Four Seasons. Also, I was disappointed that the butler did not greet us. Perhaps there was a mix-up in our suite category. I am not sure and it really did not matter. But I think it prudent for me to mention that my husband and I had previously stayed at the St. REgis Bora Bora. Again, our suite was to include butler services. It was non-existant, as well. Perhaps the St. REgis butler service is of the adage....."wait until they call you.!" Again, I am not sure. (I should also mention that in Bora Bora, we used $$ not SPG to settle our account. So, I cannot conclude that in Rome it was a snub against our points.) Regardless, I personally feel that to give a property an excellant rating, they have to deliver what they advertise. To be a 5-star property, I think an establisment must be pro-active and not reactive in their guests needs. For me, the St. REgis Grand fell short. Having said that, it is most certainly a beautiful, clean hotel that suited our needs for our short stay. Happy and safe travels.
