“Great Hotel”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We were recommended this hotel by friends as we had been finding it difficult to find a hotel in Rome with decent reviews whilst still getting good value for money. The Hotel arranged a free pick up for us from Rome airport which was a nice surprise and the front desk was happy to help with any questions about getting around the city and any requirements we had (more pillows etc.) although it was extra in order to have a kettle put in your room.

The rooms were very clean with clean towels every day (if left on the floor) and fast wifi all around the Hotel including the lounge area where they provide two computers with headsets for skype etc. Breakfast was very good with great service and a wide selection of food including bacon, eggs, pastries, fruit, salami and cereals.

The bar also has happy hour from 6-7 where drinks are half price and a free cocktail every Monday which is worth try! There is no swimming pool at this hotel and also no outdoor terrace; it is a perfect hotel if you want to see the most of the city whilst coming back to a lovely, clean room at the end of a long day.

It is best to use Google Maps or a decent map of Rome in order to find your way around, as you will see the best of the city on foot. The Hotel is only 20 mins away from the Colosseum and from there it is easy to find your way around to most monuments such as the Roman Forum, the Victor Emmanuel Monument, Trajan's Column and then another 20 mins walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.

Dear Nayzbee,
Thank you for your lovely appreciation. Your review focuses the best features of our hotel: the assistance and services provided by our expert and reliable Concierge, the complimentary internet services, the American style buffet breakfast, the cleaness of the rooms, the Bar, the good location. Every thing needed to fully enjoy a Roman Holiday. The most important thing for us is the enthusiasm that our Guests continue to give us. Thank you again

This is a great hotel, from what I can gather booking a hotel in Rome can be a bit hit and miss as there seems to be a lot of 3 or 4 star hotels which are not very good, this hotel was recommended to us by friends who have stayed there multiple times.

Location: Personally I found the location pretty good, it’s close to the Termini station (Main station in Rome) you can also pick up the “Hop on hop off” tourist bus from there which takes you all round the city. If you want to walk around the city then you’re looking at a 20 minute walk to the coliseum, a 50 minute walk to the Vatican, a 40 min walk to the Trevi Fountain.

Facilities: The hotel provides free wifi for all guests which is very fast and very good, the bar is well stocked with good selection of wine, beers, spirits. Very reasonable prices for a hotel bar as well, they also a do happy hour from 6 till 7 so you can have a couple of drinks before you head out for dinner, the hotel is very clean, staff all friendly. Breakfast was excellent; having stayed at a few hotels in Europe the breakfast is usually pretty dull, not here though! Really great choice of hot and cold food.

There are plenty of restaurants nearby, beware of the usual tourist traps, try to get off the beaten track when you go out for dinner, restaurants on the main roads will charge around 30 – 35 euro for a bottle of wine, if you find a smaller family run place off the main drags then you won’t pay more than 15 – 20 for the same bottle. I had been told by friends Rome was “very expensive”. If you want to eat on the main roads where all the tourists are then yes it is going to cost you, my advice would be go for a wonder, try to find places where locals eat.

So to sum up, if you are looking for a hotel which provides good service, clean, well run and in a good location then stay here. Rome is one of the best cities I have visited and when I return I will be staying here.

Dear andyroooo,
Thank you for your nice review. I appreciate particularly two points, that for my opinion you rightly pointed out: not many hotels of our category and prices offer a buffet breakfast like ours. The second one is what you say about the restaurants in our area. That is a feature that I like to underline when I speak with our Guests: just in proximity of the hotel, you can find some restaurants offering the best of the roman cookery always at reasonable prices.
As you write, not tourist traps. They have still the pleasure of doing their job with passion. I am glad of sharing my opinion with you. We look forward to the pleasure of welcoming you again in the future, thanks again and kind regards

This hotel was a convenient location within walking distance of all main attractions. Staff were friendly and helpful with transport & directions. Everything you need for a short stay in Rome. Watch out for taxis from termini 20 euros for a 5 minute journey!! The taxi driver told us it was a nice hotel but beware at night! Totally unnecessary as it was fine beware taxi drivers I would say!

Dear Janeycon,
Thank you! I liked very much your comment about the taxi drivers. Most part of them are reliable persons but some of them are always looking for extra gains: could be exagerated fares or simply a tip from some hotelier who needs an unfair help to fill his hotel. On our website, we also offer a promotional rate that includes transfer from the airport at the same price of a "regular" taxi, but much more comfortable and reliable ...
That could be an advise for your next visit, we wait for you!
Kind regards

This is not quite a high end hotel, but they go way out of their way to provide an excellent experience. The hotel is part of a large building, and the only exterior portion of the hotel is the entrance. The interior is clean, comfortable, nicely decorated, and full of staff who are ready to help you. There is a beautiful lounge and relaxation area on the second floor. The hotel appears to have been recently renovated, but it could well be that they just have excellent attention to detail and perform regular maintenance. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and there was a free wine and cheese mixer on Friday evening. This is apparently a regular thing, and its done right. The hotel manager and several higher ranking staff were there chatting with the patrons. No shortage of wine or snacks, and everyone was obviously enjoying themselves. This hotel is a shining example of what you get when the hotel owner cares.

Now the not-so-good is that the hotel is located in a somewhat less than desirable neighborhood. I never felt threatened in any way, but its just uglier than the nicer parts of Rome. There are several good restraunts nearby though, in particular, Krishna 13 is a nice Indian restaurant. While the hotel is literally located right at one of the entrances to the Metro subway, this particular stop is apparently a favorite for pickpocketers. We used it twice, and on our second usage, I was targeted. He got his hand in my pocket, but I felt it, and stopped him. The setup was to create a jam to distract us as we attempted to board the train. Definitely were several people involved in the setup, and they all got off the train as the door was closing. Be on your guard, and you'll be fine. Lastly, for those who are driving, there is no hotel vehicle parking nearby. The hotel recommends a garage that is four blocks away and costs 23 Euro/day.

Dear maxbraketorque,
I am happy to read that you liked the hotel Napoleon. My family and I, together with a staff who, for the largest part, works with us since a long time, someone even for the second generation, love to take care of our Guests and we do all our efforts to assure a nice stay to everybody. I am sorry for your experience regarding the pickpocket. I can say that, unfortunately, it is a problem common in all town, as well as in all the major towns of the world. Usually they "work" on the train, expecially when people push to get in or get out, but episodes at the station close to the hotel are very rare, and more frequent in the areas in the proximity of the touristic attractions. On the other hand I am happy that you payed attention and did not suffer any inconvenience. Some years ago, one of our Guests, who was officer of the NYPD, had even caught one pickpocket who was attempting to steal his wallet. What a nice revenge on that time!
Regarding the parking facilities, our garage offers also a complimentary valet service, available on the weekly days during the daytime (shops opening time) therefore is possible to leave the car in front of the hotel and to get it back on the day of departure. Driving inside Rome is not easy, and it is much better walking or using public transports! For now I send you my best regards, looking forward to your next visit,

Booked directly with the Hotel.
Arrived early Friday am, very warm greeting from Franco the head concierge who then went out of his way to make sure our stay was as good as it could be.
Got upgraded to a superior room as i emailed them earlier indicating that our stay was for my wifes 40th...and a free bottle of prosecco from the manager too!
Invited to a Friday evening wine and nibbles welcome from the hotel manager, once again Franco was there so we asked if he could recommend a good eating place nearby, he directed us 100 yards down the road to a Trattoria called da Danilo, which ended up being the best meal we had in Rome .
A wonderful stay in Rome, perfect temp perfect Hotel.
Special thanks to Franco

A very nice hotel with excellent service and nice staff.

The hotel is conveniently located just a few meters from a metro entrance. The area is very quite and makes it easy to get a good nights sleep.

The hotel has an old style but is very fresh and the hotel room had a newly renovated bathroom.

Room Tip: The rooms towards the inner court has no nice view and frosted windows.

My wife and I are in the midst of a 2 week trip to Europe starting in Rome. To start, the walk from Termini train station to the hotel is very quick, a brisk 10 min walk if you have directions or know where you are going. The hotel staff greeted us on entry and I have no complaints about them. Our room was on the 3rd Floor next to the elevator, which I usually hate because it is louder, but the room was quiet from the outside. The air conditioner in our room was not working great and did cause a lot more than "white noise". The breakfast was very good and was always fully stocked even right before the closing. The walk to the Colosseum was fairly short (20 min) but honestly the hotel isn't located right next to most things you are going to want to see. Thankfully the bus/subway is very close and very cheap. Overall I would stay here again for the price, and the very clean room.

Dear Brock F,
Thank you for your kind review. I am happy that you enjoyed your stay, especially regarding the quitnessof the room. and we would be happy to welcome you again in the future. A couple of notes about your remarks regarding the airconditioning and the location. For what I can suppose, you stayed at the hotel Napoleon on the first week of June or maybe the end of May. Unfortunately the weather in Rome along that time was not good and even the temperature during the night was lower than usual in that period of the year., and never higher than 18/19° C. Our air-conditioning systems are set, as usual in Italy, to work only when outside temperature are higher than 18° C. However, differently with the largest part of the hotels in Rome, it is possible to open the windows and get some fresh air from outside, without being disturbed by any noise of the town. Regarding the location, I would outline that the hotel Napoleon is one of the closer hotel to the Coliseum and Roman Forum, probably the most important cultural sites and touristic attractions of Rome. Even the two most important Basilicas of Rome, Santa Maria
Maggiore and San Giovanni in Laterano are at few hundred meters away, and that is the same for many other sites. Further than this, the metro line, which entry is at few meters from the hotel, connects in few minutes with the Vatican and the rest of the historical center, very comfortable when you are tired after a long walk across the city. I hope that my notes could be helpful and I wish to thank our readers for their attention. Looking forward to welcoming you again at the hotel Napoleon,
kind regards
