“Great location”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

We went to this hotel in the beginning of april. The location is very good, close to Piazza Navona. The staff was friendly, and we had a warm welcome with prosecco and some snacks. The room was very nice, with excellent sleeping-comfort and nice bathrooms. Breakfast very good. We are travelling a lot, and almost everywhere now, they have coffeemakers in room, but not here. We did also miss a good fitnessroom. This was rather poor. We were also looking forward to use the roof-terrace, as we did, but it was no service at this time of year. Overall we were satisfied, but will not pay so much again for a hotel of this standard.

Roof Garden Hotel Raphael, April 17, 2014. Blue sky, light , rather cold wind, three hours to go before departuré to the airport.
Lovely lobby, friendly personell, roof garden restaurant well laid out, 4 customers. "Sure we like vegetarian cuisine, why not ". Main course 35 minutes to wait, the white wine was warm by then, water became scarce the waiter: " Is coming signore" . Well it did. Risotto tasteless, "vegetarian food never has spices signore", indeed ?
Dolci, mather of fact we were still hungry, another 15 minutes and you would not believe it, coffee another 10 minutes. It was not the waiters fault, the kitchen and the chef were to blame.
We had the same experience 10 years ago, this time we tried again and the hotel failed again.
Flowers on the floors faded and dry, dark brown interior of rooms - so sad for a perfectly situated hotel. Not worth to be part of R&C.
Service personell and receptionist ok. We did not stay at the hotel.

Room Tip: Do not patronize, sorry, but don't.

This hotel is very well located, a stone's throw from Piazza Navona that is close enough to restaurants without being loud and is easily walkable to almost all of Rome's attractions. The building was absolutely gorgeous when we arrived in early April, covered entirely with wisteria in full bloom.
We were staying for a week along with two other couples (our kids were on foreign school trips, whoo hoo!). We were all upgraded to suites. Ours was in the traditional style, quite large, with a large closet, sitting and work area, and a large spacious bath. The toiletries were quite high quality. Some of the furniture was a bit tired and there was no view, however. Also, the closet could be better configured.
Our friends had very modern rooms on another floor.
There is a gorgeous roof terrace with views over Rome that opened the last day we were there. We enjoyed a drink up there at the end of the day. The breakfast buffet was pretty extensive and quite good.
One thing about the hotel really bothered me, the staircase is extremely modern, and it looks odd with the wall treatment and some of the public landing furniture. It would be charming to have the ultramodern with the older building, but not with the antique furniture and glazed walls on the first floor landing, that looks a bit hodgepodge.
The concierges were very sweet, but do need a bit more experience. We did have an issue where they arranged a restaurant reservation for us after an opera, and the restaurant they arranged it for wasn't open on Sundays. They didn't catch this even when we added a Roman friend to our reservation.
I would certainly stay here again. The hotel is perfectly located, the rooms were large, the bathrooms excellent, and the breakfast very good and the workers quite friendly.

This was my second trip to Rome and this time I was bringing my Mother who had never been to Rome before. I wanted to choose a hotel that was in an area that had a feel for "real Rome" and I opted away from those hotels in and around Via Veneto and those this hotel based on it's proximity to Piazza Navona and it's Trip Advisor recommendation. The hotel did not disappoint. Here are my highlights below:

Service/Staff: The staff was just wonderful. We arrived early (9:30am) and our room was not yet available. The front desk agent took us to the seating area, offered as a welcome drink of cappuccinos and provided us an overview of the hotel and the surrounding area. She was very helpful in giving us tips on where/when to buy tickets to the Rome monuments. She even helped us purchase our ticket to the Vatican museum right there. In addition, she spoke with the housekeeping staff about the status of our room and committed to having it ready by 11:30 AM which was still before check-in time. This allowed us time to explore the area. The staff throughout the stay was just wonderful from the day to day contact at breakfast or seeing a restaurant recommendation.

Location: The location couldn't have been better. The hotel is literally just 50m from Piazza Navona. It was easy just to pop over for a pre-dinner apertif or just sit and watch the comings and goings of the piazza. The Pantheon is also just about a 5-10 minute walk (depending how fast you walk). There are also dozens upon dozens of restaurants and bars just within a 5 minute walk of the hotel. You can get a great meal without having to go far at all.

Accommodation: We opted for a Richard Meier room which was just great. The Richard Meier rooms are pricier, but you get a very nice room. The room was large by European standards and had a separate area for seating and a very large bathroom. The room had a very nice Bose stereo system which we used all of the time. Since we were on a higher floor, we also had our windows open almost all of the time including when we slept. It was very relaxing. The breakfast buffet was quite good and would recommend as well.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to other travelers.

A true 5 star boutique hotel in Rome. Beautiful room, bathroom, soaps, lobby, etc. Great experience. Check-in took a few minutes so a staff person brought us a plate of cookies while our paperwork was organized. Came down to lobby in early morning to read so wife could sleep and staff person brought great coffee without asking. Very comfortable bed, Seating area with large TV but who watches TV in Rome? Excellent breakfast especially compared to average to poor food at other hotels on the trip. Pleasant street, not too noisy for Rome. Lots of restaurants in area along with antique row. Convenient to many sites. Highly recommend. Only minor issue, when key removed, room got stuffy. Appears to be universal issue in energy conscience Italy.

We stayed here in December, and loved it. The room was nice but small, the bathroom good and clean, and we liked the personal service feel of the hotel very much. The staff were charming and nothing was too much trouble for them - we were allowed to order lunch at 3pm despite being the only diners in the restaurant. A great position for exploring Rome. Would stay again.

I stayed at Raphael last May with a friend of mine and was so taken with the splendor, ambiance & knowledgeable staff that I booked my group's farewell dinner the following Sept 2014 on the rooftop. We were overwhelmed. The Food, staff and not to say the least Quality made our farewell dinner most memorable. I wish I had known about the small elevator to get my group of 37 to the rooftop I would have started earlier. All in all it was AWSOME. I would definitely stay there again. In all my countless trips to Italy & Rome where I've stayed at the Hassler, Eden, Excelsior and many more they all pale in comparison to The Raphael. You and your staff are a cut above.
Grazie e Affetti Saluti,
Carlo Dozzi
