“The Raphael delivers again”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

My wife, daughter and I have just completed our latest stay at this marvelous and superbly situated hotel in Rome. We stayed four nights. This is our fifth stay in about as many years - all have been excellent and this was perhaps the best. We have stayed in a variety of rooms over the years, all very elegant, comfortable and well serviced. This time we stayed in a terrace suite which was roomy and bright, with a view into the Bramante Cloister next door. There's lots to love about the Raphael. It's small, personal, charming, elegant and extremely well run - in a hands on way - by the owner, Roberto Vannoni. It is in a quiet, comfortable neighbourhood conveniently located for sightseeing (about 10 to 15 minute walks to the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the Spanish Steps). It has an amazing rooftop bar and restaurant. And one of the best breakfast buffets we've seen. But the most compelling feature is the uniformly warm and dedicated treatment of guests by the talented staff, many of whom are of long service. To name just a few who were exceptional, there were Steven, Julian, Samir, Zsusanna and Maribel in the restaurant, and Nabila and Andrea on reception. Arriving at the Raphael is like coming home. We can"t wait till our next visit.

We stayed at the Hotel Raphael for four nights during our time in Rome. The accomodations were very luxurious and every detail was thought of by the staff. The bed was very comforatble and the Richard Meier Suite was one of the nicest rooms we have every stayed in. It is also however the most money we have ever spent on accomodations, costing about 490 euro/night. So, if you really want to splurge and treat yourself, this is a good place to do it. Also, a wonderful breakfast buffet is included in the room rate and it was delicious. The hotel is located just off of Piazza Navona and is a short walk from many of the major sites in Rome.

This is not a cheap hotel but its the location you pay for. The hotel is nice, lots of nice touches of character because it is such a lovely old building. unfortunately for me the experience was a little tainted because of the room I was given. The room on entering was more like a corridor, with one chair and a television and a tiny balcony but enough for one person to sit out on. On going up stairs there was a bedroom, very small, an alcove really with the bed just fitting the space. However, it was fine for me for one night and the location of the Piazza Navona is just excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful and breakfast offered every sort of choice.

Room Tip: I was on the top floor and the room was small but it did offer a little balcony which was much appre...

I stayed at the Hotel Raphael for the second time in May. It is a mystical place and I feel as if I am part of a painting when I am there. The art in the hotel is glorious. Picasso's sketch of his second wife in the lobby! Beautiful Picasso ceramic dishes on display in exquisite wooden credenzas. I loved the scent of jasmine flowers and the lush vines that cover the exterior. The staff was very helpful (Thanks, Federica!) and the free maps available at the reception desk a terrific guide for those like me who love to walk everywhere in Rome. Breakfast was wonderful. Healthy options and kind friendly waiters. Dinner on the terrace is unforgettable. There is an interesting church across from the hotel, great restaurants nearby and the Piazza Navona is just minutes away. A perfect location. The best place to stay in Rome. I will return. Thank you so much. Marianne 928 from Canada

Room Tip: Ask for a room with your own balcony. Ours had an orange tree!

This hotel is like a jewel in the rough. It has a great location and helpful staff. Overall, Natalie at the front desk was most helpful during our stay. The Bellman were also very friendly. Our room was clean & spacious #208 and had Bulgari bath products. I would highly recommend staying here. If you open your window you may even here free guitar playing during the day. Overall, very quiet & comfortable.

This is THE place to stay in Rome. It's convenient to walk to most of the key attractions, plus the rooms are great and the service is perfect (Book a Richard Meier Room, they're very nice !) Having cocktails and dinner on the rooftop was also wonderful. We stayed on the Via Veneto the last time we were in Rome but decided to try something different this time. Glad we did...there is much more going on around the Raphael. There are wonderful restaurants everywhere, the Piazza Navona, Castel St. Angelo, the Vatican..you can walk to it all. We will definitely return to this hotel and highly recommend it if you're headed to Rome.

Antique furnitire and a fantastic location did not compoensate for poor hotel services. In lieu of critique, herebelow is my letter to the General Manager of the hotel:

Dear Mr.Vannoni,

I stayed at room 108 of the Hotel Raphael with my wife 30/4-3/5/2013.
I would like to thank you for offering me dinner after a series of mishaps.
However I need to point out the following:
Housekeeping is EXTREMELY poor./The fact that a *****L hotel did
not have a hair dryer in the room is simply ridiculous.Furthermore, there were
no cotton buds,i.e.things usual to *** hotels. To add insult to injury, your
front manager employee,Ms Cinara Corneade (if I spell the name correctly)
had an unacceptably haughty attitude when I justifiedly protested.
Finally,a hotel of your reputation--which my stay unfortunately did not uphold--
should never give room 108 for double occupancy. Two people with two suitcases
had to jump over them to get to the bed!!!
All in all,a huge delusion...
To add a positive note, though, the doorman and the voiturier were impeccable.

Sincerely,

Room Tip: First make sure the room space is suffcient for more than dwarfs!!! Then compare with other *****L h...
