This hotel is located within a short walk to the train/subway/bus station, easy enough to carry luggage to the station. There are adequate restaurants within the vicinity and the rooms were adequately appointed. We had difficulty with the air conditioning in an upper floor room one night during the hot summer month of July. The staff were very responsive sending a maintenance person to look at the unit. When that didn't solve the problem, the staff moved us to another room which ended up being a suite. The staff was accommodating, nothing outstanding. We would consider this hotel again because of its convenient location.Free internet, free breakfast.

After a thoroughly enjoyable stay at their sister property in Milan, I turned down everything else in favour of Starhotels Metropole. The two properties have several differences though, and at best, Rome lags behind.

The staff at breakfast are very friendly and chatty, and pay particular attention to single guests. It certainly was a highlight of my stay, to see a cup of cappuccino waiting for me at my table every time I went off for a refill.

In stark contrast though, the reception desk staff don't seem to know how to smile. Questions are answered brusquely, and only after waiting (almost every time I went downstairs, there were one or two staff serving four or five guests). Answers are curt and to the point. And each time, they gave me the impression that they were doing me an enormous favour - which they were NOT. I also got the feeling that the security men doing their rounds considered me an alien of sorts - no doubt it was the principle of 'stranger until proven to be a guest' at play.

The smoking room on the 3rd floor was gigantic by European standards, and well stocked with amenities. There is free Wi-Fi in the lobby and the breakfast is adequate if repetitive everyday.

With an enviable location, and several advantages to boot, this is a great choice in Rome. If only they would greet you with a smile though...

Close to station and within easy access of all major tourist sites. Rooms were nice, and what you'd expect of a 4 star. Some areas a bit lacking...breakfast was average for the grade of hotel (lots of tinned fruits, stale croissants, etc). No room service before 7pm and then a more restaurant style menu than room service type food. However, a perfectly good choice of hotel if you want to be near the station.

The hotel is a decent 4 star hotel located in the prime area but the staff at the reception are not friendly at all and don't seems to happy to entertain any costumer's question. I checked in this evening, staff are busy chatting with each other, No welcome or greet nor the bell boy was available to help me with the luggage. Requested for double Bed, gave me twin bed. I have to go back to reception again to get it changed and than go to the previous room to collect the luggage. The receptionist attitude of this hotel is pathetic, at lease those hostel receptionist knows to smile and to greet a customer. The attitude of the receptionist is more like a arrogant Boss than a customer relation officer. And Surprisingly the reception don't even have manner to say even "Please" or "Thank you" after asking/returning the passport followed by credit card from the customer. Quality of hotel and staff attitude with customer goes hand to hand and am not coming back again.

The Starhotels Metropole was in an good location in terms of shopping, restaurants, the rail terminal and tourist sites. The front desk staff was very accommodating upon check in. Ms. Daniella assisted us upon check-out when our pre-arranged transportation did not arrive. She made several phone calls for us and assured us that she would make sure we arrived at the airport in time for our flight home. Our "executive room" was clean and a nice size and the breakfast offered a large variety of food. The breakfast service staff was friendly and courteous. We did not eat in the dining room as their menu seemed less than those we found in nearby restaurants. We enjoyed our stay at the Starhotels Metropole.

Room Tip: We were on the 6th floor and the room was quiet.

Just stayed 4 nights at this hotel. It was perfect. It is very clean and staff were very helpful. It is central for all popular tourist sights. Colosseum and Trevi Fountain about 15 minutes walk away. Termini about 5 minutes. Vatican about 30 minutes walk. It is close to shops and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The breakfast had a good selection and staff kept supplies replenished. Towels were changed daily and bedding every 2-3 days. Rooms had a fridge and a kettle. Our room was on the back and was very quiet.

Room Tip: Our room was on the back and was very quiet. Rooms on the front may experience some noise from traf...
