“Superb service in Rome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2013

We spent 3 nights at the beginning of our Italy vacation and one night at the end of our vacation at this luxurious Italian hotel on the Via Veneto. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated and very comfortable. For Rome, I think the price was reasonable. The staff was wonderful. The men who worked at the concierge desk were very knowledgeable, funny and helpful. Breakfast at the hotel was a bit pricey. We chose a fast "Italian" breakfast across the street. We were celebrating our anniversary so they upgraded our room and sent a basket of strawberries and a bottle of champagne - nice touch.

Room Tip: ask for a renovated room

It is a five star hotel and truely it is. I stayed there for two nights on 21st and 22nd of November, 2013. Very comfortable big rooms with great facilities. One can go walking to various attractions. Breakfast is great but most I liked is comfort of the room. Mini-bar is automatic and item gets billed to you moment you take it out from the fridge, so be careful. View from the window of my room wasn't great.

This was not the first time in Excelsior.
In 2002 we had spent two weeks,in 2008 one week. Now shorter visit, but enough to check.
The hotel is in decadence...
First needs renovation urgently, but this is not the most serious problem.
Service is below expectation on many aspects and fields.
Is like the whole hotel staff, with some exceptions indeed,to has come from a lower category hotel.
From the average check in to the completely incompetent concierge ,passing from the slow housekeeping to the unprofessional breakfast service.Breakfast quality and choice was good to outstanding.
It is really unbelievable for a real palace as the Excelsior to have this aspect.
The hotel is badly managed, open to mass tourism with all its inconvenience .
Some old staff try to keep some level, but are submerged by the mass of incompetent people.
In total, not any more a real 5 star property.
TO AVOID.

We spent 3 nights in Westin Rome and we did enjoy our stay.

We were confused for the information from the official website about the direction to the hotel, it was indicated that we can "take Metro A Line in the direction of Battistini and exit at the Spagna stop. The hotel is just a short walk away (850 meters)." We got lost at the exit of Metro station Spagna and we walked almost half hour with our 20kg luggage after we went out the metro station. You should turn right when you see the cross road at the exit of station Spagna and you will see the escalator, after a short walk with some stairs you can reach to "Vittorio Veneto" or you can get off from the Metro Battistini stop if you were with your luggage.

The hotel is gorgeous and the service is great. we appreciated the warmly greeting from the front office team and the sincerely apology for the unclear direction information from the website.

The location is great and you can easy to reach everywhere. We get the useful travel information from the concierge and all of the staff in the hotel in really helpful.

We did enjoy our every meal in the restaurant and absolutely we will choose Westin Excelsior Rome if we visit Rome again.

We stayed here as part of a Regent Seven Seas tour package and were given a Starwood Preferred Guest suite. I would say that while the service was quite good overall, I felt that the room and facade of the hotel were quite outdated and showing its age. I know it's quite an old hotel, but in my humble opinion, an upgrade is long overdue.

Regent also provided for a free hot buffet breakfast in one of their conference rooms, which was a very nice touch. If/when I'm back in Rome, though, I probably wouldn't choose this hotel.

The Westin Excelsior was very nice. The front desk staff was very courteous. Our room was not ready when we arrived and they asked us to come back in 2 hours, which we did, but it was still not ready and they asked that we came back again in another 2 hours. I suppose that they could have offered to call me, but we went with the flow. After we did get our room (which was upgraded to a 2 room suite) things went very nicely at the hotel. Our room was very nice, and similar is amount of space to high end hotel chains in the US. The service a the hotel was perfect, except that the doormen were a little less friendly that we are used to traveling in the US, but perhaps that is just their way. The Hotel is in the Via Veneto area and it is sort of like a sanitized version of Rome with very expensive shopping and very little feeling of traditional Rome. If I was picking a location again I would rather stay near Campo di Fiori. Overall a great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of Via Veneto

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing with us your feedback about your stay at the Westin Excelsior Rome!!
We are delighted to learn that overall you had a great experience at our hotel.
We are truly sorry not being able to accommodate you in a timely manner due to the high occupancy the night before your arrival. Also we do regret that our location did not transmit you the real roman-feeling even though it is in the heart of the roman traditional “dolce-vita” life-style.

Thank you for mentioning the helpful and attentive service of our staff! We always appreciate to know that our service is up to the expectations of our valuable guests!
We hope to have again the pleasure of your return visit.
Kindest Regards,
The Hotel Management

The hotel is very beautiful, you feel like going back in time. We got a room on the 6th floor, viewing a small street (not Via Veneto). We asked for a re-furbished room, however, I doubt whether we got is, as I saw pictures on Tripadvisor of a refurbished of the bathroom which looked very different from ours! But the room was very spacious, as well a the bathroom and it was a very nice room,
which can be expected to be frankly, paying euro 350 per night!! For this amount of money you would expect breakfast to be included: no. Also, no free internet in the room. My advise would be for such a night price: include breakfast and free wire-less in the room (for more devices!)
Furthermore the personnel of the bar was not very friendly, they did what was asked (pour a glass of wine, soda, or whatever).
The Doney bar however is a very nice place! Friendly personnel, good wine, good atmosphere, nice music!!

Room Tip: Room on the 6th floor, facing Veneto street or side-street

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about our “Grand Dame”.

It is a pleasure to learn that you appreciated the unique style of our historic Hotel located in one of the most famous streets of Rome. We would also like to thank you for mentioning the spaciousness of our rooms and our comfortable bathroom. Indeed, being the hotel an historical building a renovation plan is already in place. Again, thank you for your nice comments about our Doney Restaurant, your comments will be shared with the Team.

We have taken into serous consideration your comments about our internet & breakfast policy as well as the inadequate behavior of our Orum Bar staff for which we sincerely apologize.
Hoping that it did not impact the possibility of returning back to the hotel, we will be delighted to have the opportunity to welcome you back with us soon.
