“great place to stay if you want near airport”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

I stay here with image tours. This is a great place to stay if you need to be near airport otherwise your location is terrible. You are considerable distance from anything and will have to take a taxi if you intend to sightsee. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The staff friendly and food in restaurant is good.

Dear montana925,
We have appreciated your comments on your recent stay at Holiday Inn Rome Eur Parco dei Medici. We know that the location of our hotel is not in downtown but we have a comfortable shuttle bus which takes you to the International Airport FCO and the city centre in few minutes at only € 4,00=per person. We are afraid that this did not meet your requirements. As for the other services, thank you very much for your positive opinions and appreciations.
Hope to welcome you again in our hotel !
With kind regards

I've stayed at this hotel 8 or 9 times over the years and it's always been really good as you can see from my previous review. Not anymore. Last time stayed was 3 years ago and standards have really dropped.

The refurbished rooms on the 6th floor are nice but it's like they gave up halfway through and didn't bother with the bathroom - or the room doors which let in all the noise from the corridor.

The staff were at best a bit "sniffy". I'm a Platinum Ambassador with IHG but was treated like I was a bit of pain by asking for a high floor room. For the first time I got a room at the front of the building. The air conditioning in the whole hotel was off and it was 25 degrees outside. I was told to open a window in the room. Not really possible when there's a dog pound nearby with constant barking plus the noise from the car park at the front. I don't understand why a 4 star property would switch off the air con - surely it's down to the guest?

Breakfast has really gone to the dogs. There used to be an omelette chef - no more. And the attitude of the staff was not great.

Overall I'd say standards have slipped and the staff need a bit of customer service training to bring this back up to the hotel it used to be.

Room Tip: DO NOT get a room at the front of the building.

When you book this hotel, be aware that internet access is an additional (and expensive) extra cost. Also when you order food to your room, they also an extra 10 euros on the bill without telling you.
The gym is good. The swimming pool, although it looked perfectly functional, was roped off and therefore unusable.

This is rated a four-star, but there are so many negative posts in Trip Advisor that it is difficult to see how the property maintains its rating. The hotel is large and the rooms are large. I had no problems with the staff, unlike many travellers report on this website, but there are plenty of areas which need attention. The rapidity with which the hotel management issue reassurances and apologies to the many negative reports on Trip Advisor begs the question: If they are so assiduous at looking at the problem areas, why do the problems remain?

My room was a sauna. The two days I was at the hotel the sun was directly on to the room and (mid October) reached 24 degrees. I turned the aircon to max and went off to a trade show at the nearby Fiera di Roma. Several hours later there was no change, the room remained a sauna. I reported it to the front desk who sent up a technician, whose solution was voluble Italian and to throw open the window.

By 2.00 a.m. or 3.00 a.m. the temperature was about right - I didn't get much sleep until then, and of course the open window encouraged flying insects. I wasn't actually bitten, but a colleague (perhaps more choice meat?) was badly bitten. Another guest told me that the hotel probably shuts down the aircon at the beginning of October on the grounds that the outside temperature is cooler. If that is the case then it is plain stupid. If my problem was that the aircon didn't work then it needs attention - fast.

I had free wi-fi, but only because I am a Platinum member of Priority Club. Others had to pay. This is the kind of petty rip-off that drives people to stay elsewhere and hotels should get to grips with it. Internet costs them nothing; charging for it is immoral.

I did not use the restaurant. There was only one and it did not open until 7.30 p.m. Instead I found a small pizzeria at the back of the hotel which was adequate and about one-quarter of the prices in the hotel; I also found many hotel residents in there, who also found the hotel's lack of choice, inflexible hours and high charges, unacceptable. The hotel is missing a pile of revenue by having no coffee shop with food outside of the restaurant hours.

The hotel ran a courtesy bus to Fiumicino Airport, which is a good idea - but leaves a four-hour gap in the early afternoon with no service, which is not sensible. It also runs a bus to the exhibition centre, but coming back you have to leave a trade show at 3.00 p.m. or get the next one at 7.15 p.m. (most shows close at 6.00) so again, someone is not employing common sense.

Overall, the hotel is adequate and gets three stars because the rooms are large. But it falls down in so many other areas - areas which with a little more care to attention, could be rectified.

Room Tip: Get a room on the west side of the hotel - out of the sun's impact; or one with aircon that work...

Only 20% of the staff are friendly. This is unusual based on my over 20 years traveling experience. The staff at the gift shop (the senior one) was not friendly at all. No smiles. Not showing sign of welcoming our business. Unfortunately I have no choice but to buy train tickets from him since you can only buy from them. Will not stay here again.

We enjoyed our trip to Rome and spent 3 nights here. The rooms were clean and hotel well appointed. The staff (not all of them) on the desk were a little unfriendly, not what we have come to expect in a Holiday inn. Breakfast was fine, Car Parking adequate and the shuttle bus into the town centre worked well ( as shame it wasn't complimentary)

We arrived and were served by a welcoming employee in the reception.

We found the room and pool was average. Later we wanted to go to center of Rome and asked about transportation. We were instructed by the reception to take trains to Rome center from, the nearby trainstation and to by tickets from the hotelgiftshop. The station is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. When bying the traintickets we were told that it was only 30 minutes by train to center of Rome and it was just as easy to return to the hotel in the evening.

But a big problem occured when we later in the evening wanted to return to the hotel and in the Metro station found out that there ran no trains until next morning. In that situation you need to grab a taxi and pay expensive money to get back to the hotel late at night which is an uncomfortable situation.
I recommend the hotel in the futere provide correct information about transport to and from Rome centro.
