We just returned from a 2 week vacation in Italy, which ended with a 2 might stay at Hotel de Rome.

The hotel is in a great location, just around the corner from the Coliseum, and far enough away from the other major tourist attractions, that it is still affordable and a great home base. Everything is within walking distance and you don't feel like you're crammed into a hotel in a tiny alley like many of the hotels closer to attractions like the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps.

It is located at a farily busy intersection, however the windows in the rooms block out ALL of the traffic noise. Our friends stayed in a hotel up the street (further away from the intersection) and they couldn't sleep at all because of the noise. So this is a MAJOR pro, in my opinion.

The room was on the smaller side, but it was clean and modern and just enough space. The A/C was cold, which was great to beat the 40C+ heat outside. The shower doesn't have a proper door, so we soaked the floor every time we took a shower.

The only cons to this hotel is that despite the 5 or 6 WiFi networks available, I was never able to connect to the internet. The front desk clerk told us that they always have problems with Apple products connecting to the networks, so if you have an iPhone, don't count on the WiFi working at all.

The other con is that despite breakfast being served on a lovely roof top terrace, the actual breakfast was TERRIBLE. Poor selection, no hot food, a huge disappointment. You're better off skipping the free breakfast and spending the 5 euro for a croissant and coffee at the cafe up the street near the chinese restaurant.

Overall, the price was right, the hotel was clean and modern, the location was great and it is a solid choice for a Roman hotel.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel de Rome. We had a good experience at this hotel; however, I would pick a hotel in a different location if we have the chance to return to Rome. de Rome is in a great location for sight seeing at the Forum and Colosseum which we did the first afternoon we were there. Otherwise, we were a pretty good walk (maybe 20-25 mins) to other major sites. We ended up taking a cab back to the hotel one evening after dinner in the Pantheon neighborhood because we were so exhausted. The area is extremely touristy and we found ourselves walking a good 10 minutes to get out of the thick of things for good dinner options (we liked the Monti neighborhood).
The hotel has an ATM right next door and a tobacco shop on the corner where we purchased our Roma passes. The hotel staff were friendly and English speaking. They gave us great dinner recommendations and even called to confirm our tour for the next day. Excellent AC in the rooms & free wireless with a good connection. The breakfast was adequate, and they let us eat early one morning when we had to leave for a tour before breakfast was actually open. This hotel was very clean and comfortable. Our only complaint was that the modernly designed shower does not have a door, and even when being extremely careful, we managed to soak the bathroom floor nearly every time we showered.

We stayed here in May 2012 and I can only recommend it. We liked it a lot due to its wonderful location in the heart of Rome near Forum Romanum/Colloseum - these both just in the walking distance.
The hotel is still being renovated (but part of the vila where hotel de Rome is located is already done - all brand new - now reconstruction of the nearby vila hosting the hotel Richmond is ongoing).
- hotel is designed in the very smart way, all brand new, nice rooms some of them orientated on the street but some of them in the courtyard (these were better). We had mansard room which was rather small but I think it was enough just for staying here overnight as during the day/afternoon we were in the city: individual aircondition included, satelite TV, phone, towels in the bathroom changed daily, room cleaned daily.
- bufet breakfast on the roof of near-by hotel Richmond (juice, tea, cafe, milk, cafe americano from machine - bread, cheese, ham, salad, cereals, croissants, yoghurts). Remark don`t hesitate to ask the lady for cappuccino or any other special coffeee. Minus: not very wide variety of food as it is repetitive every day the same, but on other hand de facto it`s OK for breakfast - for me personally it was enough.
- nice and helpful staff on reception with no problem to recommend you something or help you. Last day of our stay we ordered a taxi to the airport via reception and it really came on time-the driver waiting for us in the lobby in advance.
- nice inner courtyard
- overall cleanliness in the hotel
- we did not eat at the nearby restaurants at the front of the hotel - there are plenty of good restaurants in just walking distance

Room Tip: in inner courtyard

I styled here with my daughter and her friend following their college graduation for 5 nights. Location was PERFECT. Could walk everywhere and see everything. Just a peek round the corner and there was the colosseum, the roman forum, the imperial forum, and one of the BEST restaurants in all of Rome. Offered a wonderful rooftop breakfast every morning.

We just arrived home. The hotel is still being renovated, but the rennovations did not interfere with our stay. Our room was comfortable and clean. There was a nice courtyard in the back where we could sit and relax in private. Also, we were served a lovely breakfast on the roof overlooking the Colosseum area of town. The breakfast was more than adequate and served in a delightful setting. Each morning they made Cappuchino for us as we did not care for the espresso.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
We had a bit of trouble finding the hotel initially, but actually it's location could not have been better. From the hotel, we could walk in all directions to see major attractions. There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance, and the train station was a 20 minute walk from the hotel.
The only complaint that we have is that there was not partition separating the shower area from the rest of the bathroom. So, you had to be very careful or the bathroom would be soaked. All in all, we felt that we had made a very good choice.

My wife and I stayed here on a 3 day/4 night break and was pleasantly surprised. Room was a bit small but considering the location this was a minor detail. Who goes to Rome and stays in their hotel room? The staff were very helpful and friendly and nothing was too much bother. Looks like they are renovating the hotel next door with the aim of combining the two. Breakfast was served on the roof terrace, supervised by a lovely lady with a beautiful smile and a figure Sophia Loren would die for. I'd certainly go back here and have nothing but praise for it.
A pointer of two, nothing to do with the hotel, which may make a stay more pleasant. As you come out of the hotel there are two restaurants either side. Can't vouch for the right hand one but we had a meal in the other one , it was expensive (45-50 euros for two) and one of the worst I've ever had. Turn to the right and go up a little and there is an Argentine Steakhouse. Again expensive (65-70 euros for two) but very friendly and easily the best steak I have ever tasted, well worth it. Just past this is a Chinese Restaurant, this is good food and very cheap (25-30 euros for two), but we were served by two of the most sullen waitresses I have ever met.
Other things- you see guys hanging around in Roman costumes, very friendly and let you take their picture with you-beware-this will cost you, not mentioned till after the event. Go to the Spanish Steps, your lady will be offered a rose and you will be told how wonderful she is and how lucky you are-again, this will cost you. Finally watch out for the taxi drivers-not saying they are all the same, but the last one I had scammed me by insisting I had given him a 5 euro note instead of a 20 (both blue) for the fare. It wasn't until later that I realised I had given him a 20 and he had ripped me off. Hope this will be of some help.

Good location, walking distance to all the major attractions, we even walked all the way to the Vatican however I was sooo tired afterward. Excellent service from staff, good restaurant recommendations and friently overall. Good rooms, a little on the small side but sufficient. Nice modern bathrooms. Breakfast was a dissapointment, not much variety and nothing hot or warm served. We were given a room on the ground floor and apparently next to the kitchen or prep area and were awoken early every morning by the clatter of dishes.
