“Surprising Dinner in Roma”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013 via mobile

Wonderful meal tonight at this out of the way hidden gem. Our B&B owner recommended the osteria since we arrived in town late and it was close by. The antipasti of the day were creative, fresh and bursting with flavor. Caprese with a fresh tomato coulis, arrancini (three types) and a timbale of eggplant and fresh cherry tomatoes. The primi course was superb, we had amatriciana, cacio pepe with porcini, carbonara and a pesto with bacala. A fresh Frascati accompanied the meal. We were treated with the right amount of attention and privacy. Would heartily recommend this establishment to all who are looking for authentic Roman cuisine with a new flair.

“Best dining experience ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

Our B&B recommended this restaurant to us. We went one night and it was such a great experience we went back on our last night in Rome. They treated us like family, took the time to explain all the dishes and special ingredients. We had three different pasta dishes and three different meat dishes, lamb veal and beef. All were excellent, homemade ice cream for dessert, even a scoop of the cherry ice cream they had made that day as an extra, which was fabulous. Using a unique local cherry. In fact all the food is prepared with only local ingredients. Truffles on pasta one night then wild asparagus in the pasta the second night due to a friend of there's just picking it that day. So the food was fab but it is Stefano and Christine that made these the best meals out we have ever had anywhere. Bellissimo!

“Local restaurant with some faults”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

Osteria delle Commari was recommended by our hotel. We went there twice for dinner. The hostess was very welcoming and took great care to explain the menu in very good english. The first time it was quite ok but the second time was a bit frustrating. We got the wrong wine, the main course (lamb) was most bone for one portion and the dessert (delicious) was not what we had ordered. We got a reduction of the bill but all in all it diminished the experience. It was a pity as we think in reality it was a rather nice restaurant based on local products.

“A happy surprise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2013

We chose this restaurant when my first choice for last night was fully booked. I had some trepidation because in the shadow of the Vatican the restaurants are not known for their excellence, either in service nor in quality of food. Che bella sorpresa!

The menu is limited but creative. The owners, Stefano and Christina, take time to explain the menu and the options for the evening. We enjoyed the cod with red onions, raisins and pine nuts very much. Apparently they always have this entree while others change. For our pasta we shared an excellent ravioli stuffed with potatoes in a sublime sauce involving anchovies. One of the more inventive antipasti was a tramazzini made of polenta, stuffed with chicory, mozzarella and anchovies. Limited wine list, but all local. A pleasant locale, with pretty, subdued dining rooms. Don't be put off by the apparent size of the place when you enter. There are adjacent dining rooms and Osteria delle Commari can handle larger groups as well. Don't miss dessert! We enjoyed a torte con cioccolato fondante on a shortbread crust with raspberry jam. Two antipasti, one pasta, two entrees, cicoria ripassata, dessert, bottle of wine, bread and coffee = €89.

“Double Delights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 27, 2013

On the recommendation of our B&B, we ate at this restaurant on both our evenings in Rome. We were particularly impressed by the welcome and care of the hosts, especially since I was incapacitated by being in a wheelchair at the time.
We chose, on both occasions to eat choices from the daily specials and these were explained to us by Christine(?) who, with all the other staff were delightfully friendly.
Everythiing that we ate was delicious and very obviously freshly cooked with a lot of attention to flavour and presentation. The veal was particularly sumptuous, as was the cod and the unusual (for us) choices of vegetables , including artichokes and chicory.
Each meal, for 2, with 3 courses and a bottle of wine, and complimentary Prosecco and Limoncello, cost 100 Euro which we thought very good value for what was a real taste of Italy with superb service. We shall definitely go there next time we are in Rome.
