I asked a friend the lives in Roma where she she would recommend we stay. Without hesitation she said Horel Locarno. Totally old world! You expect Audrey Hepburn to walk into the bar at any moment. Pefect location right on the Piazza del Popolo and near the Spanish Stairs and Villa Borghese. This was our third stay and we will return.

We stayed at Hotel Locarno for my 30th birthday. Before deciding on HL we were looking at 3 star hotels, but decided on something a little more luxurious. We could not have been more pleased with our choice. While some of the rooms are a little tired in places, (paint flaking of ceilings) it gave them a shabby chic look. The rooms were comfortable and of a reasonable size. Breakfast in the courtyard every morning was great. A variety of foods to choose from. Although the hotel is situated more toward the north if the city, everything was still in walking distance. It took us about 45 mins to walk to the Vatican, 20 minutes to Trevi fountain and literally 10 mins to Spanish Steps. We did get the sightseeing bus down to the Colosseum. In the evenings, we had drinks and complimentary snacks in the bar which were great, even if the drinks were a little pricey €10 for a glass of Prosecco, but this seemed the going rate across Rone.

We had a fantastic stay and would not hesitate in returning to this charming and characterful hotel.

firstly, the location was good, when you walk out the door turn left, walk for 5 mins to metro. turn right out the door, the vatican area 15-20 mins walk. the rooms were good, remember most hotels in rome on a rate of 100 euro per night are small. bring your own kettle, milk, tea, sugar and food to the rooms because there are no provisions for any refreshments, there is a stocked fridge[minibar], there are no prices for the drinks or snacks, so i would stay clear.. you can use the fridge to keep your milk cold! there is an excellent wifi signal, so bring your laptop for your entertainment, unless you can speak italian or dont mind being bored to death by cnn [the only english channel]. overall if you stick to the aforesaid the place is not bad. for thoes who like a bit of pub/bar scene the pace to go is.. walk out the door turn left walk about 100 meters turn right on to via ripetta, walk for about 20 mins straight road brings you on to via della scrofa, then via della dogan turn right head for the south side of pizza navona, go to a street called corsa vittorio emanualle, thats where the nightlife is, if you want a late disco /bar just ask.... price of a pint about 6 euro, so dont forget the hip flask! as regards to my caption the bed we got room 601, the bed was to say the least small and hard.

Room Tip: just ask for a king size bed.

First off - this is a great hotel. Its expensive, but that is probably a result of its great location. Service on all fronts was great, a fantastic included breakfast spread. The room was nice. Not great. The bathroom was very cramped, but well kitted out. The room also had a slightly odd smell to it ... like stale cigarette smoke, although it was a non smoking room.
Overall a very good experience.

i stayed a few days at hotel locarno and it is really a lovely hoyel, very charming. location is ideal, litteraly a few steps from piazza del popolo. and for the price, it is really very reasonable. the hotel is clean and the team and service are very friendly. i consider hotel locarno to be a boutique hotel, mainly because of its history and decoration: if you like 20s, 30s style, you will love this vintage hotel. the terrasse outside is lovely adn the bar is very happening: lots of romans go there for the apperitivo. it was a very nice surprise and made my stay even more enjoyable.
