So old and so beautiful. Read about it in advanc to get the most out of it. In the piazza you can enjoy an espresso and overlook the Phantheon

I don't know what I was expecting but I was a little disappointed. I still rate it as very good because I know deep down that it is but after visiting St Peter's Basilica everything else seemed somewhat plain and dull! :P

If you have any interest in Roman history or architecture, this is the single most important building to visit anywhere in the world, as it is one of the very few to survive virtually intact. As far as I am aware it is the only ancient building anywhere with an intact roof.

It also happens to be one of the most beautiful buildings that the Romans ever built and one of the most technically skilled.

I have visited the Pantheon many times but never cease to be amazed and moved by it. The awesome single-piece granite columns that support the portico, the great bronze doors (which some claim are partly original), the oculus, that wonderful domed concrete roof, the strange spiritual feeling inside.

I believe that the domed concrete roof may be, to this day, the largest concrete dome ever built. It certainly was the largest dome for centuries.

The Pantheon is also situated right in the heart of historic Rome with many other attractions nearby to visit and lots of wonderful piazza's (such as Piazza Navona which is only about 200 metres away) and winding cobbled streets to explore. When I am in the Pantheon area I always like to go to the Sant'Eustachio coffee shop which is just round the corner.

The Pantheon is also free. It is open from around 9am to around 6pm everyday I believe, except for Sunday when I think it closes at around 1pm.

There is no dome like this... I saw St Peters dome before and after this one. They all say it is bigger. I know it is higher, but no dome has ever taken my breath away like this one.

One needs to have some history and I really , really recommend Rick Steven's free audio guide for this. This was a pagan temple and then a church.

The fact that such an imposing dome was built far far before ENIAC was even a twinkle in Eckerts eye... with math based on paper and abacuses alone...that is really impressive.

Its also beautiful, and filled with tombs worth a visit alone in themselves, such as that of Raphael, King Umberto and the sense of space.

Hungry? the whole Piazza is full of Trattoria and they'll all feed you well

So roam around, hear the guidebook, gawk at the ceiling and then eat some lasagna...with a couple of glasses of the houses vino rosso... enjoy..!

From the outside, the Pantheon looks like an old, interesting building. Inside is beautiful. The dome is incredible. The marbel is lovely. The artwork is quite beautiful, which took me by surprise. What's almost magic, though, is how the light hits everything and how bright it is inside.
