For me, churches in Rome all sort of melt together after awhile, but I was intent on seeing the Caravaggio's here. They are fantastic! Well worth wading through the tourist hordes to reach. These three paintings along with his masterpieces in the Borghese are an honor to behold.
And given that I was here, the church is beautiful as well. Some really gorgeous marble work and a gold ceiling. There was reconstruction to the facade when I went, but they are open.

This is a French speaking church with French decor and a Caravaggio, dark background, painting of Matthew plus 2 others. Drop in some change to light up the paintings, well worth it.

This church is just off the Piazza Navona in Rome, so it is easy to combine with seeing the piazza and also the Pantheon close by.

The must-see sight--especially for art and Caravaggio lovers--is the chapel on the left near the front altar. It holds three Caravaggio frescoes, including what many consider his masterpiece, "The Calling of St. Matthew" on the left wall. To see it properly, just put a one, or maybe it was two, Euro coin in the light box. It's well worth it.

Then proceed just a five-minute walk away to the Church of Sant D'Agostino to see another great Caravaggio painting, the "Madonna of the Pilgrims." It's the altarpiece in the first chapel on the left as you enter. The pilgrims in this painting have dirty feet like the people who attended the church. Probably a prostitute, who also attended the church, was the model for the madonna.

Caravaggio's greatest paintings in Rome are in these churches plus another one in the Piazza del Popolo, which has two more, not too far from the Borghese Gallery, which has six Caravaggios--more than any other museum in the world. But his best Roman paintings are in these three churches.

Outside of the church may look ordinary like any other churches. But we were awed by the interior architecture and design. Worth to pay a visit for anyone near Piazza Navona as it is nearby within 5 mins walk.

Despite having previously been in Rome, we did not notice this church located close right next to Pantheon, so this time I took my chance and I visited it, taking my time to admire the paintings and reading the inscriptions about fallen French people in Rome.
I learned a bit about history, having read for example that Algerians fought alongside French people in Italy.
Overall a small church but definitely worth visiting if you are already in the proximity of Pantheon.
