Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights last year summer. Cannot fault this place, absolutely amazing. Stayed on bed and breakfast basis- but really good choice of food everyday, fresh bread and lovely Italian pastries including cakes and so much more. The rooms are very spacious and impeccably clean. Location is great, 10 minutes walk from the Vatican, far enough to enjoy the more quiet streets of Rome but close enough to get involved with all the sightseeing activity Rome is buzzing with. Staff were superb, very friendly and helpful. There is a great Pizzeria right opposite the main street under the bridge i kick myself for not remembering the name, i cannot describe how nice the pizza's were from there! I could go on and on about this hotel, bottom line - it is great value for money. You wont regret your stay. Rome is a superb city, Enjoy!

By far it's a much better hotel than some European hotels. Staff is actually POLITE! They called the taxi for me 2 times. The front desk girl is smoking hot too. Um what else, Air Conditioning! Rooms are small, which is euro style for most places unless you are going 5 star american chain hotel.

Breakfast is awesome. They can store your luggage until your flight.
Bus is always free in Rome, because they never check for your bus ticket! Ride free all day long and have FUN! :)

Rooftop bar is nice. Bartender is a sweet lady. Great Views and location.

Our holiday to Rome didn't start the best (we had 50 euros stolen by the taxi driver), however, our accommodation and what came with it more than made up for it during the rest of our stay.

The rooms were just as on the photos shown, although maybe a little smaller than I had expected but after all you don't take a holiday to Rome to sit in your room so it didn't really matter. The shower was amazing and everything you needed; shower gel, shampoo etc, had all been provided (I'm used to staying in Travel Lodge's in England so this qualified as luxury!).

Reception staff were always polite and helpful especially the man who works evenings! They would always help us get to where we wanted to be and were a great help when it came to arranging our train journey to the airport on the final day. Maid service was incredible - especially considering the state we left our room in.

Breakfast was great too, loads of pastries, cereal, yoghurt to keep you going. You wont get a full English but that's the best bit, the food served was definitely the right stuff to fuel a day walking round the city!

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from St Peters which is ideal and there is a bus stop at the end of the road which goes straight into the center of Rome... we were never waiting more than five minutes for the bus. Moreover, the train station (San Pietro) was a 30 second walk from the hotel my friend and I would DEFINITELY recommend using the train when it comes to getting to and from the airport. After having our money stolen we decided to try the train on the way back and to save money chose to use what was to be considered the "slow" service to the airport which cost us eight euros each. We were told to leave an hour and a half for the journey however, we made it to the airport in 35 minutes - only wished we'd have known how easy it was before we spent 70 euros on a taxi to the hotel.

Here are a few tips, that we learned along the way and thought would be a good idea for anyone planning to stay at this hotel or Rome in general:

1. If you're a student bring your ID - I didn't which meant no half price entry into the Vatican Museum (boo!)

2. Visit St Peters within a couple of hours of it closing, during the day the queue for the museum can be 3 hours long, If you go at half 4 / 5 o clock you can walk straight in - easy.

3. DON'T get a Roma pass, my friend and I made this mistake and wish we hadn't. The Roma pass enables users to visit two places (skipping the queues) e.g Roman Forum and Colleseum, and also allows you to use transport (bus/metro/train) excluding the airport for 35 euros. This sounds great! However, The bus is 1 euro each way and a three day pass is only 16 euro from a ticket office. Moreover, the Colleseum and Forum use a combined ticket this only costs 12 euros (free for under 18's) and I would suggest spending a little extra to have a guided tour anyway. You can't fully appreciate the Forum without one and they're usually around 35 euro plus you skip the queues anyway.

4. Finally, and perhaps most importantly EAT at Angelo alla Cupola. We accidently stumbled on this gem as we were pretty late to eat and wanted to stay close the the hotel. The food there is some of the best I have ever eaten, imbetween courses the waitors and waitresses gave us other things to try including the anti pasto buffet... absolutely fantastic. Best of all the restaurant is relatively cheap to anything else we found in Rome.. (a bottle of wine was only 9 euros.)

The website for the restaurant is:

From the moment we arrived it to the time we left Hotel Gravina and it's staff were exceptional.

This hotel is minutes from the Vatican but is located in an area where local people live.

This was the best thing.

Eating and drinking near the hotel was so much more less expensive than any other place I have encountered in Rome.

I paid 4.5 euro for a bottle of wine in a café here. The same bottle was near 15 euros in the tourist areas.

We had a balcony, great breakfast, fab room, well appointed, wicked power shower, safety deposit box.

This hotel also has a roof garden bar / restaurant with a wow factor.

It is within walking distance of the Vatican & museum, but it is also just set back from the main road where it seems you can catch a bus to everywhere. Put it this way everywhere we wanted to go that was past the Vatican we did so on a bus and we loved it.

The hotel looks towards residential apartments that are pleasing to the eye.

Next door is a pizza place and we enjoyed eating there.

If you walk towards the main road just to the left on the other side is a fabulous café where we ate and found the food good to be great value and the staff good fun. I recommend the chicken & potatoes with rosemary. Its a café for locals it's not fine dining but the food is good. We clocked how many people went into it before going in ourselves.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room.

Stayed here two nights in a suite which was supposed to have a bath / spa bath. Had nothing of the sort. Power cards had to be out in diagonally to have the lights stay on (not by design but the staff knew about it but they don't tell you unless you ask). The woman that was working there had her boyfriend there and they talked rather than help you, when she does eventually help she is really rude and arrogant and not willing to help in the slightest (we arrived at Fiumicino at 8am and needed somewhere to stow our luggage until we could check in, she was not willing to accommodate first off but reluctantly let us lock them in a room downstairs). The gentleman on the other hand that worked the desk was so nice and would help where ever he could, unlike the woman who wouldn't even tell you how to get the wifi (which is really slow) working. Photos of the room are deceptive as they are to as they appear, and are not maintained the best (cracks and marks all over the wall). Breakfast as really nice with a range of pastries and sliced meat and cheese with the regular cereal. Coe to the Vatican, me and my wife went for a short walk and ended up getting lost in Rome which was amazing and we saw some great stuff. Taxi from the hotel to Termini Roma will set you back about 55 - 60 euro.
