We bought a skip the line ticket and it took us about 5 minutes of queueing to get into the colosseum. Before entering the colosseum, we were bombarded by people trying to sell us tours and special passes, which made me very uncomfortable. Anyway, I felt the inside was very impressive. Sometimes you can pick up some interesting facts from tour guides walking past, but I didn't see a lot of information signs. There's a free drink water point near the entrance where you can have a drink or fill your bottle, which is also nice especially on warmer days. Certain areas can only be accessed with certain tour groups but for me it was unclear which ones. I can definitely recommend buying a skip the line ticket, because we ended up being inside for less than half an hour and I feel like the queue would have been longer than that.

Absolutely loved our visit here! It was extremely busy but so worth the visit. Such an amazing piece of history. Super cheap to get in as well, our ticket was about €12 per person to get into the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
If you are in Rome, this is an absolute MUST SEE!

Very organised and commercial now, with quite limited access, i.e. no non 'organized party' access above the lower level. We DID have a guided tour, as it seemed tricky to get in without one but it still didn't go there! We only did that when we were offered 'student rate' (actually my wife IS a PhD student).
The commentary WAS interesting Architectuarlly and historically so worthwhile, unless you read a good detailed book on it first.

The Colosseum, like Rome itself, is no simple tourist site; it is an iconic place to visit, a pilgrimage that you make. This magnificent remnant of the ancient world still stands tall, beckoning admiration in the midst of our twentieth century accomplishment and turmoil. To go there is to experience time travel. This Fall I was one of the thousands streaming though this "high relic." Going through that famous outer shell, which is the standard image you see of this structure, we got in each other's way trying to capture images of the interior. There we saw the artifacts of production -- the remnants of what it took to actually assemble the "mass spectacles" which were presented there. This place is a symbol of Rome at the height of its imperial power, when it subjugated the known world and brought home the goods, services, and talents of many great nations. This venue became a showcase for all of that.

Very crowded even early in the day in November. I think I loved it best when there was little restoration, few people, and no security lines. However, the restoration is going great, the lines were not atrociously long, and the one cat, Neroni (black cat, with a play on the name of instigator Nero) was graciously inviting at the first staircase. Best — the road in front is now closed to car traffic!!!

The construction is massive and unbelievable. The Architecture and the beauty of the structure makes us to think the construction capabilities of Ancient Romans. Definitely should not miss this monument when visiting Rome.

The history of this city is incredible.....
When you try to imagine the man hours and effort to build these sights, and the sheer history that surrounds them it is absolutely mind boggling

Skip the line maybe a bit more expensive, but you really buy time. In the Colosseum 'only' 1.000 people per shift are allowed. It feels very quiet. Amazing place you have to visit!

Fantastic attraction. We bought tickets with audio guide (make sure you bring your own ear plugs) at Tiqets and did not have any issue or waiting time, apart from queening for a short time to get paper tickets - many languages available. There is a lift to take you to 1st and 2nd floor(not sure about others) not many toilets around tough. Nice view inside and great view on the outside too. Remember to take a photo before going from second to first floor where you can also see the Arch of Titus, near the souvenir shop :)

Go early to avoid lines. We took a guided tour into the top levels which gave a good glimpse into the early history of the region.
