“Yes, you can see one more church!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 28, 2013

This is Rome's Cathedral. It has been rebuilt many times and is a splendor to see. The church offers "free" audio guides (donation required) and I do recommend them as there is so much to see. This church also has the relics of Sts. Peter and Paul. Really... go see this cathedral!

“Fantastic Bassiclica”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

This is a bit out of the way but the buses do reach here from the Colloseum (you have to buy tickets before getting on-finding a machine was not that easy). It is well worth the trouble as it is on a grand scale and exceptionally beautiful-in my opinion. It is also the first church in Rome-although it has been rebuilt on a number of occasions.

“Must visit, close to Colosseum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

This is the most beautiful church building I have ever seen, and there are many gorgeous ones in Rome and elsewhere. It seemed every available inch was decorated with painting, marble, gold-effect or polishing - all to glorify God. If you decide to only visit one church, then choose this one; however, I would urge visiting more as they form such a huge part of Rome's history and life. The front is peaceful and awe-inspiring. The roof peers over the top of the work-place buildings as you step away from the metro station towards the old walls. Toilets inside. We walked from here to the Colosseum, calling in at San Clement's en route; it is really not as far as some other reviews suggest.

“Beautiful church, and don't miss the Santa Scala.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

This church is beautiful, and the 50 foot bronze doors that used to be at the entrance to the roman forum are on the front of the church. The large section of the original city walls are next door, and the Santa Scala directly across the street should not be missed.
