“do go. it's a magnificent place”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

it's so unusual - it's the cathedral of Rome, the 'other' Vatican. It's just out of control. Skip the sacristy/cloister - it's a bit of a letdown after the drama of the actual church.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I've seen in Rome. Impressive statues, gold ceiling, showing the richness of the church. It's definitely worth seeing.

“Wonderful church”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Statues and pictures inspiring respect, also full of art. St John Evangelist's picture on the right (see photo), roof decoration, statues of Apostles are impressive, as well as what we thought was a big pulpit. We stayed long time inside to observe all these.
Concerning nearby monuments outside, my wife liked "Scala Santa". I liked the statue of St Francis of Assisi, having read a book by N. Kazantzakis about his life.

“Must Sees in Roma”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

This is a must see for anyone interested in church architecture and history. It is one of the four patriarchal basilicas in Roma. Go early in the morning to avoid the crowds and to see the morning light coming through the windows.

“Opulent and airy”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

This basilica is located a bit out of the city center, but is more than worth a visit. Its opulence, size and open-air feel are remarkable, even by Roman standards. It is located next to the remaining fragments of the very first Christian church in Rome.
