What can I say about Club Machiavelle that has not already been said.
Were you ever tempted to lower your rating because a restaurant is so hard to get reservations?
My wife and I were fortunate to get reservations on two nights during our last trip to Rome.
Mauro is the most passionate chef you will ever meet. He goes to each table and explains in detail how he prepares each item and the history of the cooking technique. His menu changes almost completely every week. You cannot order a bottle of wine without engaging in a detailed discussion with Mauro of the merits of the different vintages to accompany your dinner selections. This is not the restaurant for a quite dinner; it is a gastronomical event. We ordered too much food the first night and then did it again during our next visit. Never did get to dessert. Some of the outstanding choices we enjoyed were Gnookie with mutton and star anise, beef cheeks stewed in Barolo, eggplant flan and ancient pie.
There are only 10 tables, with one seating and reservations well in advanced are necessary. It's like having a cousin who is the best chef in Rome and getting invited to his house for dinner.
Price shouldn't matter for an experience like this. But my wife and I each ordered 4 courses and a bottle of decent barbera and the total came in at under 100 Euros.
