We were there for 3 days. I liked that hotel with helpful staff, moreover not only staff was helpful but also people in Rome. Pleasant view from rooms: gardens, flowers etc. Neighborhood was quiet .Public transport was available to reach the centre, and underground network was perfect to reach all destinations. Defiantly, it will be better to have car, in this case everything will be great. Food was not wonderful, but acceptable. To my mind it is better to eat outside, no matter where you are. We were there in July 2010.

At first glance, the hotel looks like the 4* hotel that you booked.

That is, until you look around at the surrounding area. When we got out of the taxi, there was a stray dog walking across the street and a syringe on the floor.
Forgetting these, the hotel was clean and modern. Not the most comfortable beds, but European hotels rarely do. The breakfast in the morning is acceptable, but nothing special.

The staff were a bit off, apart from one lady who kindly rang up a museum and got us tickets in advance. At check-out we asked for the bus number to take us to the airport, only to find she'd given us the wrong bus number which ended up in us having to pay an extortionate price for a taxi (60 euros (the bus took us to the middle of nowhere.))

Getting to the centre of Rome (such an incredible city) takes forever.

First of all you have to walk along the side of a road from the hotel to the nearest main road, to catch a bus which comes by every 20 to 30 minutes (you do not have to pay for these buses, even though you're supposed to. We made this journey 6 times and not once did we see a single person swipe a travel card.)
After getting off the bus at Subaugusta, you have to go to the the newsagents at the station to buy your ticket in to the centre of Rome and take another 20 to 30 minute journey on the metro depending on where you want to visit.

If you don't understand a word of Italian, this can be quite daunting as there is no one to help along the way. After the first few times of doing this, you get used to it. However, in hindsight it does take a lot away from your day and holiday.

I would literally only ever recommend this hotel if you're comfortable in the way the Roman travel system works, or have no intention of actually going in to the city. Even if you're on a budget, i recommend spending the extra money to get a more central hotel so you can fully enjoy your holiday.

Good hotel; bad location.

Room Tip: Get a more central hotel.

May 5th 2012 Clean and tidy friendly staff, paid for 4 star luxury got a travelodge, no restaraunt just a room with plastic chairs ,breakfast cheese cold ham and bread, no bar just a small room with some bottles. 4miles from Sabaugusta metro. Felt completely cheated be warned any premier inn would put this place to shame.

Room Tip: Dont pay over £30pp/night

The Hotel Artis looks like a nice hotel, but I have never ever stayed in a hotel that won't turn on the air conditoning because it is the law in Italy well let me tell you other hotels in Italy are granting their customers wishes. I has been hotter than normal for the end of April and the beginig of May; my room is so hot; I had a chocolate bar on the desk I could not remove the wraper as the chocolat was melted. other than that Most of the the staff is nice. and it only takes 15 min to get to the center of rome.

Room Tip: make sure that you don't come in late may you will roast your butt of as they don't turn on...

March 28 2012 We had a three night holiday. Quiet safe area Good parking. Excellent room and en suite. Good breakfast, No pool, public rooms ex unused bar. 10 min bus ride to cafes etc. No food at other times
Big disadvantage it's not near the centre and getting there takes an age.
To get there from the Fiumico airport...
If under 65, buy your Roma Pass at the airport Tourist office, otherwise buy metro/bus tickets at the tobacconist opposite the office- We bought a three day and a one day pass there.
a) get a taxi to the hotel, good value if there's 4 of you.
or b) get the bus shuttle for 4 to Termini
or c ) get the non stop train to Termini, pricey, then metro see below
or c) get the slow train to Ostiense station, 8 Euro, walk to Pyramids metro (not far) metro( Line B) to Termini
At Termini switch to line A, towards Anagnina, get off at Subaugusta
Outside the station , get the 558 bus just past the corner restaurant towards Torre Maura, 10 minute ride. Get off at Romanista Giaquinto ( 2 stops past a petrol station on the right, before a petrol station on the left, 100 metres further on, turn right, hotel 100 metres on the left.
The corner restaurant by Subaugusta does a great happy hour (up to 2030), plie of food plus any drink, 10 Euros.

Room Tip: The reception staff were pleasant, the hotel was full, so needs booking,

This hotel was modern, clean and comfortable, and the staff were helpful and spoke good English. That's where the good stuff ends. Supposedly 4 stars, the hotel is situated way out of the city centre in a residential suburb of Rome, and miles from the airport. Whilst our room was clean and comfortable, we were amazed to find no tea/coffee making facilities in the room (a must as far as I'm concerned and surely a standard feature these days?). There were just 4 coat hangers between two of us, no drawer space, no extractor fan in the internal bathroom, no shower gel and they were mean with the toilet rolls! The "fridg-o-box" drinks cabinet, which housed only soft drinks and water, was not chilled which we found rather pointless. There is no kitchen as such, so no facility for lunch or dinner, and being situated in a residential area there are very few restaurants nearby, although there is a supermarket right next door. Breakfast was just continental with the only hot food available being scrambled egg with pieces of bacon mixed in, or frankfurters which, as a vegetarian, I couldn't eat. After three days eating the same breakfast I never want to see a cheese roll again as long as I live! The "dining room" itself was large, cold, impersonal and utilitarian and felt more like a canteen than a restaurant. Being subterranean there was no natural light and it lacked warmth and atmosphere. We had no hot water for 2 of our 3 days and to top it all, when we checked out we were informed that we had to pay "city taxes" - 3 euros per person per night! A 4 star hotel? No way. I wouldn't stay there again and certainly would not recommend it.

Room Tip: Unless you want to be out in the sticks and don't need any food, don't stay here.

Inconvenient location for a city break, the back of beyond.
Stayed 3 nights, woken by comings and goings of travellers on 2 of them.
No snack/food facilities apart from breakfast. Supermarket next door. One local eatery.
Bar was closed 2 visits out of 3. Room clean but top bed cover stained.
I think 3 star would be more appropriate. Disappointing.
