Bernard is a wonderful host, he went out of his way to assist with my stay in Rome. The B&B is close to the Termini (Central) Station, which is easily accesible from the airport. The B&B is also within walking distance to the Colosseum and a Metro station to other main attractions. However, it did not feel like a particularly safe area. I stayed in the single room - it was very small and the bed had two cushions rather than a proper mattress. The balcony door would not close (or lock) properly which was noisy and felt unsafe. The bigger rooms seemed much nicer. Breakfast is a coffee and croissant at a cafe around the corner - very pleasant.

Room Tip: Recommend a double room, even if single traveller

The owner is quite nice and made the room (I knew it was a single) sound very good - fridge, private bathroom, tv , desk etc. However, once reaching the hotel, which was not in the greatest area near the Termini station, the room was tiny. There was hardly enough room for my luggage and the 'desk' was a plank of wood screwed into the wall but was falling off. The bathroom was tiny and the shower was so small you couldn't wash properly. Three of the four rooms in the hotel are next to a very busy road and you can also hear the trains and trams very clearly. I am not a light sleeper but it was very difficult to get a good night's sleep. The mattress was hard and the pillows lumpy.

However, the double rooms were much better proportioned, although still noisy, and the shower slightly larger. The bed was also much better.

I would recommend this hotel only if you ask for a double room, don't mind a little noise early in the mornings/late at night and don't mind the rough and ready aspect of the area.

My wife and I paid our first visit to Rome,Having booked the flights and chose the Old Roma from a website. When we arrived at the B&B from the railway station (Termini) a 10 min. walk we had a problem finding it at first as there were no signs up,it is situated in an appartment block with only a bellpush sign with the name on it.First appearances we both nearly turned around to look for another hotel and forgo our deposit, roadworks outside and the area was quite scruffy. We thought we would give it a try,so in we went.the rooms are at the end of the appartment block with a main security door,we were greeted by Bernard the owner,a very nice guy,he immediately made us feel very welcome and was very helpful. The rooms were extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean, towels, sheets changed every day,en suite shower room, compact but adequate,
TV. There were no tea/coffee making facilities and for breakfast you had to go to a little bar round the corner for the usual tea/coffee crouisants.
But for 35 Euro pppp just off the centre of Rome we thought was good value for the money,if you want all the trimmings then be prepared to pay at least double that.
We will definitely return to Rome as we only spent three days there and only scratched the sightseeing surface, and return to the 'Old Roma'.If you do book this B&B,Bernard and
his lovely wife Steffi will make you feel very welcome and help with getting around, restaurants etc.The Metro is by far the easiest way to get to the main places,Vatican,Trevi Fountain,Piazza Popolo,Spanish steps etc. the list goes on,its a 5 min walk from the B&B.
