They communicated very well via email, but the front staff were "stiff"
LOCATION IS EXCELLENT and they helped to arrange private Vatican visits for us, via email before we arrived.
The room was small, and they were unable to get us one with a view. our room opened onto the side street....NOISY at night. Small bathroom (typical European, non-suite) though the hot water was endless (thank goodness)
The breakfasts were typical, nice setting. There IS a gorgeous roof top lounge. Great for end of day, pre dinner relaxation, though the bar staff was slow and "challenged."
I would stay here again, I'd just lower my room expectations and not hope for front desk help once I'm there. Via a cab driver, we learned about "the worlds best" cafe (El Mundo) a block away....

Room Tip: Insist on a room facing the Pantheon.....not that you'd stay inside that long, but this is what...

We stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The location is perfect, the staff are amazing and the accommodation is very good. On the first evening there was loud talking and shouting from the street until around 2.00 am which kept us awake but when we spoke to the front desk about it we were immediately given another room away from the street. This is an expensive hotel but well worth the money.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the alley at the north side are quieter.

Our first trip to Rome and we planned to spend very little time in our room so we really wanted a place that was not too expensive, but also in a great location from which we could walk to all the sites. Albergo del Senato fit that bill perfectly. Stayed three nights. Had a "double" room overlooking the Piazza Della Rotonda with a fabulous view of the Pantheon -- we could practically reach out and touch it! The room was small but pretty much in line with what one should expect in European Cities in our experience. Very clean, nice bathroom, very friendly and helpful staff who tended to our every request. They serve a buffet breakfast every morning which is included in your room price and very good. Best Two things about the hotel though are (1) the roof deck and (2) the location. The roof deck is beautiful, lovely flowers, full bar and bartender and views of the Vatican and the Colosseum (partial). The highlight of the visit.

The location is perfect. 20 minute walk to the Colosseum, 20 minutes to the Vatican and about 5 minutes to Piazza Navona, Camp di Fiore. Maybe 10 minutes to Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Jewish Ghetto. So easy and convenient and felt totally safe at night. Despite all of the revelers in the square outside the hotel, we rarely heard a thing in our room.

We would highly recommend this hotel. Felt it was an excellent value for the location and the quality. We will definitely return.

We first stayed at Albergo del Senato in May 2011, and we decided to pay a return visit for a week this May. If anything, our stay this time was even better than before. The hotel itself is charming and all the staff members are wonderful - extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfasts were good in 2011, but were even better this year, with excellent fruit, cakes, breads, pastries and cappuccinos, as well as scrambled eggs and bacon. The level of cleanliness throughout the hotel was very high. Our room, a standard double, did not have a view over the Pantheon, but as a result was extremely quiet. There was plenty of room for all our needs and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel could not be bettered. We could easily walk to all the main attractions and museums and there are some very good restaurants and coffee shops nearby. It was wonderful to be able to sit outside the hotel and watch the (other) tourists visiting the historic Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon. Don't miss the chance to visit the Pantheon when it first opens at 8.30am, to see it when it is nearly empty. The hotel roof garden is a great place to enjoy an evening drink and take in the views as the darkness falls. This is certainly our favourite hotel in Europe, and we would love to return in the near future.

We stayed here 3 nights. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They made dinner reservations for us, arranged transportation, and recommendations for sightseeing. Our room was beautiful and clean. The breakfast was a welcome treat. Our 6th floor room had the perfect view of the Pantheon and overlooked the piazza del rotunda. The staff at the hotel really made our stay special.

Our second stay at this hotel and we will return again! The location is excellent right nex t to the Pantheon and in our opinion it is situated in the best square in Rome although busy. Easy to walk to all the 'must see ' sights. The roads and pavements are mostly cobbled so take comfortable footwear. We had a very comfortable room with small balcony on the 6th floor directly overlooking the Pantheon. With the shutters closed there is no noise from outside. Breakfast in the hotel is good - the usual breads, jams, pastries, croissants, fruit, scrambled eggs and bacon. Delicious cappuccinos. Rooftop bar at the top of the hotel. The Tassa d'Oro coffee shop, best coffee in Rome, is almost next door. Cappuccino only 1euro10. Plenty of restaurants off the square at reasonable prices, very competitive. Across the river Trastevere is worth a visit with cheap eateries. There is so much to see and do in Rome, and although a cosmopolitan city it is very Italian.

Room Tip: Pay for a superior room with a view of the Pantheon. Fantastic!

We first stayed at the Albergo del Senato nearly ten years ago. I chose it because it was located just steps away from my favorite destination in the Eternal City - the Pantheon. What I didn't realize was how special the hotel itself would be.

First off, this is a small hotel, with a wee single elevator. This is part of the charm, trust me. And because of its size, the service is very personal - you get to recognize the staff from both shifts, and they are there to make your stay in Rome a wonderful experience. You need a restaurant recommendation and reservations? No problem, the front desk will handle that for you. They're very friendly and remember us every time we return.

The hotel itself has just undergone a transformation - the rooms are all now super-luxe. It's more like staying at the famed George V Hotel in Paris. Most of the rooms are quite small, as is typical in Rome, but the ceilings are extremely high. Make sure you request a room facing the piazza, because you get enormous 'French' windows overlooking the Pantheon and the ebb and flow of humanity in the piazza itself. I could lean out the window and watch the world go by for hours. And you can practically throw a spoon onto the roof of the Pantheon, you're so close. You also don't really have to worry about noise from the piazza, since there's next to no car traffic outside the hotel, and the crowds die away late at night. You also have enormous shutters and thick glass windows to keep out anything that could disturb you.

The morning breakfast is quite nice, but typical of most small hotels and B&B's. Lots of good coffee, loads of cakes and nummy stuff, and of course eggs, bacon, lots of bread, fruit, etc. And to top it off, the hotel is right next door to the famed Tazza d'Oro ('cup of gold'), which serves some of the best cappuccino and espresso in the city. It's a standing room-only situation. So get an espresso and maybe some granita to go and wander out into the piazza and sit in the portico of the Pantheon and watch the world go by.

Back at the hotel, here's a couple of tips: request a piazza view room *with a balcony*. The balconies are small, but they're perfect for sitting in while reading a book and sipping a cappuccino. The Penthouse Suites are *very* special. They're quite large, extremely luxe, and at least one of them has a large patio with outdoor furniture. Go to their website to see the photos: http://www.albergodelsenato.it/. And there's one rear-facing suite with its own kitchenette, for those people who want that.

And whether you stat at the hotel or not, take advantage of the rooftop bar. It's one of the best - and mostly secret - views of Rome. You can look at the top of the Pantheon, most of Rome and the piazza below. Very romantic. OK selection of wine and some finger food, but the view is the main reason to come up here.

I honestly can't say enough great things about the hotel. We've turned all of our friends onto it, and they all consider it their home in Rome. Perfectly situated in Centro Storico (central Rome), practically abutting the magnificent Pantheon (walk in the 2,000 year-old temple every morning after breakfast) and reasonably priced - for Rome - great rooms and superior bathrooms, fantastic service, and I ask you what else you could want?

Room Tip: Request a room facing the piazza with a balcony. Trust me, the view of the piazza and the Pantheon a...
