“Fantastic Four Rivers”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

The history created by the icons embellished on the Four Rivers fountain. I had the pleasure of having a tour with a graduate of history and a seventh-generation Roma resident. Amazing.

“Feel the Pulse!”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

The Piazza Navona is a social center with artists, musicians, locals, and tourists bustling about. The cafes and churches lining the track-shaped plaza (because in Ancient Roman times it was a stadium for athletic contests) are full of people and the atmosphere is magical. At its center is one of the most beautiful fountains imaginable and one of the most exuberant in Rome, a pulse point for the entire piazza.

Created by Bernini, the magnificent fountain features the four rivers - The Ganges, The Nile, The Plate, and the Danube. All beneath an obelisk. It was used as a location for the film "Angels and Demons" so many will recognize it. Come, enjoy, sit back, and enjoy the pulse of this lively piazza. And don't forget to visit the church just in front of the fountain dedicated to Santa Agnese who was martyred on this spot for refusing to marry a pagan.

A huge, imposing fountain in Piazza Navona. The base of the fountain is a basin from the centre of which travertine rocks rise to support four river gods and above them, an ancient Egyptian obelisk surmounted with the Pamphili family emblem of a dove with an olive twig. Collectively, they represent four major rivers of the four continents through which papal authority had spread: the Nile representing Africa, the Danube representing Europe, the Ganges representing Asia, and the Río de la Plata representing the Americas. Very close to Pantheon. Don't forget to make a wish!
