“Very interesting”

Why pay for a tour when you can closely follow one and listen for free :D we caught snippets of information from different tour groups going around but had the freedom to explore the way we wanted. Lots to see and some amazing views. You can't tell just how much there is to see from the road. There is a fee to pay to get in but this also allows entry to the Colosseum. A lovely place to visit in the sunshine.

“An unexpected highlight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

It may have helped that we had a tour guide, but the Palatine Hill was really wonderful. When you know the context of what you're seeing, it is amazing. You get wonderful views of Rome too, and you will probably stumble across the convent that is still on the site. The ticket price is included in the Colosseum ticket, so no excuse, really! :)

“Best bit of Rome”

This is the Rome you come for; so much to see, so evocative and photogenic. Yes, it is full of tourists and you may have to queue; and don't expect photos without people!

“Historic”

We walked around the forum after visiting the Colosseum. It was very hot and there was little shade. Other than that, it was an excellent experience.

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

While we enjoyed walking, there were a lot of places closed off and undergoing refurbishment. It wasn't easy to navigate, and we got lost a few times trying to follow signs. Regardless, it was nice to wander about. I'd recommend going in the house of Augustus, but be prepared for a line. The frescoes are worth the wait!

Bring a water bottle and fill it up using the fountains. And grab an orange if you can!
