We visited the hill as part of a guided tour and I am so glad we went. The simple fact of how outrageous the place was when it was built and the sheer size of it.

It was wonderful to walk around and use your imagination as to the kind of shops that were around. Our guide, Radu really helped us take everything in.

When you go to Rome make sure this is on your list of things to do.

You get free admission to the Palatine Hill and Forum areas with your ticket to the Coliseum. It's truly amazing to see all three areas. You have to see it to appreciate it. In fact, all three are that way.

We didn't realise just how long we should have allowed for this portion of the whole ruins complex. It goes on, and on and on. Well worth not rushing it. Note that you will need sturdy footwear, and if it is raining preferably that would be boots as it gets very very muddy on the paths.

Could have spent longer which is just as well our ticket allows us to go back. Spread over a wide open area an amazing array of architecture and ruins. Less crowded than the coloseum. If you buy a SUPER pass at the Palantine you wont have to queue at the coloseum to get in. Take water with you as the only drink machines are at the top of the hill. Make sure you go down the steps in front of the nymphaem as there is a room underneath which is easily missed and you shouldnt miss it.

As the entry is included in the price of Coloseum tickets, it's a must visit too..It is one of the seven hills of Rome..Looks down upon the Roman Forum..Go to the top to get s beautiful view of the city..
